Zeal's Undefeated Regionals Report 7/7/07 Edison
Hey guys, I thought I'd just let you know about my day yesterday. The day started pretty terrible, Daryl's brakes were busted and we thought we weren't going to be able to go. Fortanatly, my dad let us take the old mini van that is nearly falling apart, so we were able to get in Edison in time. During the ride there (Daryl drived), I changed my deck quite a bit until I got it to a place that I thought was almost respectable. I still wanted to cut a few cards from it, but I decided to use the day as most playtesting, and not care how well I really did.
Round 1 - Timothy VS Andrew (Six Samurai)
Ugh. First round I was paired against the damned Samurai. I really never liked the Samurai- they always lucksack me for the win. Before the round started, He dropped his deck, and I saw that he as running them, and I commented on it and helped him pick up his cards (not looking at them, of course). He was pretty cool, and we had a fun Game 1. After Game 2, I sided in the Kinetic Soldiers (which I didn't even see Game 2.) During Game 2, I take advantage early with Banisher of the Radiance, but then I draw Future Fusion... I have Overload Fusion in my hand. He attacks with his Grandmaster into my Banisher, and I decide to let it go. He then trys to attack for game with his Wind Six Samurai (too tired to look up the name, the one that gets to attack twice), and I Enemy Controllered it. He was quite confused by this, but he passes. Future, Overload, GG. I almost felt bad about doing it.
Game 1
Me: 8000 7200 5200 4900
Him: 8000 7900 6500 2600 1000 0
Game 2
Me: 8000 7500 6100 4900
Him: 8000 7300 0
Round 2- Timothy VS Hasan (Monarchs)
This guy was pretty cool. We talked a bit before the game, and then got things started. I don't remember a whole lot about this match, but I do remember that I didn't have too much trouble 2-0ing him. He was a pretty decent player, but I got all the counters to his deck when I needed it.
Game 1:
Me: 8000 6400 6100 5000 3100 1200
Him: 8000 6400 5600 4200 2500 0
Game 2:
Me: 8000 7100 6700
Him: 8000 5700 5100 3700 1900 300 0
Round 3- Timothy VS Daryl (Monarchs)
Both of us was 2-0 and looking for our third win. It sucks that I got paired to a teammate such early in the tournament, as everyone in our team except Guiellermo was doing great today. In any event, since neither of us had our invites yet, we decided to just play it out. I don't remember a whole lot about the match itself- but I do know that I 2-0ed him. He was a challenging opponent, however. I moved onto a 3-0 record with good tiebreakers, and poor Daryl moved onto 2-1.
Game 1
Me: 8000 6700 5300 4700
Him: 8000 6600 4100 0
Game 2
Me: 8000 6000
Him: 8000 6400 5600 4700 3400 600 500 0
Round 4- Timothy VS Jonathon (T)
I talked to him before in the tournament, so when we sat down we both saw a farmiliar face. He was pretty cool, and immediately he asked if I was asian. I told him I was a honorary asian, as a lot of people say I look asian. That was good enough for him, and we decided to start. He was telling me about how in the last 3 rounds his opponent won game 1, and he won games 2 and 3. Naturally, I told him that I had 2-0ed all of my opponents that day. That's when he looked a little nervous. We joked around awhile whose "karma" would hold out to be superier, and when I lost Game 2, I was pretty nervous myself. Fortanutely, he really drew bad Game 3 leading me to a pretty easy win that game.
Game 1
Me: 8000 7600
Him: 8000 6400 3200 2000 0
Game 2
Me: 8000 7400 6500 6200 5400 3000 2200 100 0
Him: 8000 5900 3800 3000
Game 3
Me: 8000 5600
Him: 8000 5200 4400 2000 400 0
Round 5- Timothy VS Carolyn (T)
I get paired against the girl that beat Anthony Alvarado earlier in the day. She's a really good player- as I have seen her in numerous events doing great before. We talked a bit before the round started (as it almost was going to be repaired), and she remembered that we had played a year ago in an Edison Regionals when I was running my old DDV deck. I slightly remembered it, but not too much. She had told me that I had won, and then I commented that I hope that my streak with her continues. She just rolled her eyes on that one. The judges finally said to start the round, and thus we did. In Game 1, she completely dominated me. My opening hand was quite terrible, and there was little I could do (my only monster was Snipe Hunter, and I didn't draw another until my 3rd turn.), so she got an easy victory. During Game 2, it was just the opposite. SHE got a bad hand, and I got a pretty good hand, and I kept smashing her with Banisher and there was nothing really she could do. Finally Game 3 came, and it was pretty close the entire game. As soon as either of us started gaining advantage, we both gained it back. And then I started drawing Gadgets. 2 in a row, now I had 3 in my hand. During her last turn, she overextended because she thought she was getting a win, but I didn't allow that with a well timed D.D. Crow, removing from play her Monarch she was Prematureing. Next turn, I play Snipe, get rid of her field, and Call of the Haunted a Gadget FTW. There was alot of people standing around, and most of them were routing against me. Sigh- oh well. I handed the slip to the judge, who ALSO informed me he was routing for Carolyn. Whatever. xP
Game 1
Me: 8000 7900 6700 3600 1800 0
Her: 8000 7000 5600
Game 2
Me: 8000 6100 4200
Her: 8000 7000 6100 5850 4850 3450 0
Game 3
Me: 8000 5900 5200 4500 2700 2400 2200
Her: 7000 6600 4500 3200 2400 0
Round 6- Timothy VS Jonathon (Monarchs)
Sigh, this was my only true lucksack of the day. But, in reality, to do this good at an event, you need to lucksack at least once in a day. We were both undefeated, so we were both really hungry for a win. Game 1 I dominated, Game 2 he dominated, and he was dominating Game 3, too. Early in Game 3, I missed with Snipe Hunter 3 times, meaning he had mass advantage. During the last turn, he had a Card Trooper and a Monarch on the field. My hand was an Overload Fusion, a Neo Spacian Grand Mole, and a Heavy Storm. I drew, and before I realized what I drew, he activates Trap Dustshoot. I show him my hand, and that's when I realize: I drew Future Fusion. I said "I win?" and he obviously thought I was joking, until he ALSO realized what was sitting in my hand. He was pretty mad by this, and just scooped up his cards. I would be mad if I was him too, but unfortanutely, lucksacking wins games sometimes. I feel bad for him, as he ended up giong 5-3, when he should have really won this game. Whatever, though, as I'll take what I can get.
Game 1
Me: 8000 5600 5200 4900
Him: 8000 6000 5600 4000 3200 1900 0
Game 2
Me: 8000 7400 6000 2700 0
Him: 8000 6500
Game 3
Me: 8000 5600 5200 3100 2300
Him: 8000 7200 5700 4900 3700 3300 0
Round 7- Timothy VS Matthew (Gadgets)
This is where it got interesting, as the Top 2 tables were running Gadgets, except for Nikita, who was playing Levitan. This round I was paired down, whatever. I don't really remember much about this match, as he was running American Gadgets (the one with heavy destruction and stuff), so I didn't have a problem beating him. He did win Game 2 because I didn't draw a monster until it was far too late, though. I was guarenteed Top 8 at this point, and I got to play Levitan Round 8.
Game 1
Me: 8000 7400 5400 4600
Him: 8000 7700 5700 4700 2900 0
Game 2
Me: 8000 7400 6000 5400 1700 0
Him: 8000 7700
Game 3
Me: 8000 7000 6600 6500 6400 4900 4100 2800
Him: 8000 7100 3400 3300 1900 0
Round 8- Timothy VS Paul (Ratty Gadgets)
Whee--- I get to play Levitan. I didn't really care about this Round too much, as I was guarenteed Top 8 anyway. I cared about NEXT round, the one that really mattered. Nikita came up to me before the match, and told me to try and beat him, and I said that I'll try my best (Nikita claimed that Levitan rulesharked him, which was kinda true... but seriously, how do you mill 9 cards with Card Trooper when there are only 2 on your field..?). I don't quite remember too much about this match, my Hydrogeddons and Banishers overwhelmed his Giant Rats and Gadgets. Game 2 I got a Double Dustshoot, so of course after I beat him he tells everyone that I was lucky that I drew it. Whatever. I move into Top 8 with an 8-0 record.
Game 1
Me: 8000 7800 6600 5200
Him: 8000 6100 4100 3700 3500 0
Game 2
Me: 8000 6600 6400 5700
Him: 8000 6600 4400 0
Top 8- Timothy VS Nikita (Trooper Duper Monarchs)
So I got paired against the X-2, who was Nikita. He was an alright guy, a bit emotional towards the game of Yu-Gi-Monz, but I guess pressure gets to people sometimes. Game 1 swings in my favor, as my Banisher claimed the soul of his Treeborne Frog and not letting him use Trooper, messing him up severely. Game 2 swung in his favor, after I Dustshooted him when he had 4 great monsters in his hand and nothing for me to counter them. I tried my hardest, but he eventually Troop Duped me. Ouch. Game 3 I open with Dustshoot again, this time all he had was a Cyber Dragon and a Dekochi. Bye bye, Cyber Dragon, and bye bye Nikita. He tried to make a comeback, but it was foiled since I knew every card in his hand. He used System Down on me, not letting me Limiter my Dragon FTW earlier, but I just had too much knowledge and advantage not to pull that one out.
Game 1
Me: 8000 7800 6600 5200
Him: 8000 6400 4800 2800 0
Game 2
Me: 8000 7600 7300 6500 5600 500 0
Him: 8000 6800 4800 3800 3000
Game 3
Me: 8000 7200
Him: 8000 4300 3500 2500 1000 0
After the tournament I claimed my 21 packs (Ugh... 21 for a 170+ player Regional?), and pulled a Raiza from them. I ended up pulling 5 Volcanic Shells, 2 of them being Ultimate which was just... disapointing. Most of the other pulls were crap, expessially the foils I pulled (2 Tri-Blazes and 1 Soul of Fire, how hideous.) We got something to eat on the way home, and when I finally got home I crashed immiediately.
Props:
- Going undefeated.
- Getting my 2008 invite early in the season.
- Meeting a lot of cool people.
- The good judges at this event.
Slops:
- The rest of Team Sin scrubbing out.
- Pulling mostly junk from my packs.
Without any further ado, Zeal's "Ultra Aggro" Gadget deck, that surpsingly did so well, despite it only meant to be used to test certian things. I will probally be editing it some more before the next major tournament, as 45 cards is a tad to much for the deck. The deck was mainly meant to be extremely aggro, while countering the current Monarch and Perfect Circle metagame.

Awesome Job!
There are VERY few Gadget builds I find are good but this one I like it looks like it could do really well even at an SJC

Yeah. I read your report, too.
Are you sure Nikita is a cheater? He didn't seem like a cheater to me when I played him, he just seemed kinda emotional. After what happened with him and Paul I really don't blame him, though. However, Paul did what any smart Yu-Gi-Oh! player would do, so I don't blame him, either.

At SJC philly, when he played me, he drew an extra card and when I called a judge, he lied about who went first. Since there was no way to determine that, we had to restart the match.
Later that match, I searched out malicious and after I shuffled, I put my deck down faceup by mistake (before he cut) and he tried very hard to get me game lossed for it...
Also, he was caught with a mirror force that you know was mirror force by touching it at this event, as well as one in the past.
And he got DQ'd at nats for marked sleeves.

First off Congrats on the Top 4.
Second Off
Nikita is a known cheater. He cheats at the locals I go to, Nationals, and the Regional where he top 8 after nationals. He is known for marked sleeves and lying about things in the duel so he doesn't get caught. He straight up admitted to me at the Bluebell Regional where I top 4 on June 30 that he cheated at nationals.

i did what i did for 2 reasons. 1) i was gonna lose, and i would rather win (even though i was undefeated, and probably locked for top 8). but more importantly, many people told me he was a cheater (including the judges) and they wanted him to lose. he rulesharked one of my friends earlier in the tournament, besides from being dq'ed from several other tournaments, so it was time for him to get a taste of his own medicine.
on another note, in our match, it wasn't just the double dustshoot. i will admit, you had a completley dominating matchup against me, and we were both udefeated, the only reason i cared was cuz i wanted to see if i could win in such a hard matchup. you're hand game 2 wasnt good, but it ended up working in your favor. game 1 i was in control, but u had gadget + limiter + ring. either way, we both top 8 and got our invites, so gj.

Yeah, you too, Paul. I really do like your Ratty Gadget deck, I just think the Banishers and Hydrogeddons gave me a slight advantage.
Good job on your Top 4, too.

This thread should not have been bumped for that. But anyway, thats the thing Paul called nikita on. He had 2 troopers and goes "mill 9".
