Necrofuus' Top 8 Edison Regional Report. 7-7-07. Decklist included.

I'm the only member of my team going because of the Anime con. I get up like 6:30 and get to the train station. Transfer in Secaucus and I'm there like 9:00ish. Tariq and 2x Rob pick me up and we head to the church. Now, first thing I do after registering is go hunt down a 3rd trooper. If I can't find it, I would be running crystal beasts. So I go to the vendors. The one that has trooper is charging 70. Ug. I ask pretty much everyone there. Finally, I find some guy in the corner with 5 (using 3). He wants to trade, not sell. He looks through my binder. Nothing. Ok, 55? He think, no. He said he really doesn't wanna sell. I'm desperate at this point and as I'm walking away, say "Last chance, 65?". He accepts. I give him 3 20's, 7 quarters, 2 dimes, a nickel, and 3 sakajuwea (SP...) dollars. That was pretty funny. Anyway, I didn't care about the high price b/c I got my other 2 troopers for great deals. (1 for a trojan blast, 1 for $25).

So...No crystal beasts for me. I still wanted to play them though. So I play against tariq before the reg started. I dunno why this casual match gathered as much attention as it did (there was a circle of people around us) but yeah. That was fun.

Round 1 Pairings are up.

Round 1:

Me vs. James (Shadow The Unborn on pojo) - 6 Samurai

Game 1: He starts. His hand was bad and he first turn card destructions. This helped me tremendously. I win very fast.

Game 2: I get the troop dup ****. A jinzo gets snatched. A shogun gets reasoninged. Lotsa stuff. I won though.

Round 2:

Me vs. Renato - Monarchs

They have me down for the loss here and go to the match slip to see that it was Chris's error (the guy typing it in) so they switch seating and yeah.

I don't really remember this match well. He won 2-1. I think I overloaded for game in game 1 but lost the others. It was alright, he was a cool guy. He thought I was running CB b/c he was watching the casual match before. He was slowing realizing that I wasn't. lol.

Round 3:

Me vs. Kadeem - Big City

Game 1: He solemns too early (I stormed his solemn/something else, thats why). So I had game pretty soon.
Game 2: He was putting alot of pressure on me with wildhearts. I baited a solemn and then drop future/overload (). He had one facedown, but I was pretty sure I had it. Sure enough, it was rug.

Round 4:

Me vs. Luis - Monarchs I believe.

Again, don't really remember it. Really nice kid. I think I won it 2-1.

Round 5:

Me vs. Vincent - T

Game 1: I pull some machine bull **** and win
Game 2: He pulls some T bull**** and wins
Game 3: I won fairly quickly because of dustshoot

Round 6:

Me vs. Claudio - Monarchs

This was a quick round thanks to dustshoot and aggression.

Ok. So at this point, I'm 5-1. I'm really feeling it now. My tiebreak was doing well too (but loses his last 2 I believe...)

Round 7:

Me vs. Ian - T

Game 1: I have raiza and all spells, like 1 trap. He reads this well and waits till he can go T FTW, cuz I can do ****.
Game 2: This was the best game of the match. Solid play after play. I barely edge in the win. He rang 1 of my goats in response to MST, which helped me swarm for the win.
Game 3: A few plays go by and we get here. I have trooper and call+trooper on field. I have 5700. He has less than 3000ish after my troopers attacked. I pass. I should have set my overload (no, it wouldnt have been game. I made sure of that for like 4 minutes). as a bluff, but it didnt matter. I had dustshooted him earlier and his hand was sangan, 2 brains, meta. So now he had the last 3, and he topdecks noc. Hew brains both trooper. All he needed for the win was to draw a trooper or prema or something, but, he drew noc. He can still win, if he mills a malicious with the mill 6. He doesn't. He scoops after the mill. GGs.

Round 8:

Me vs. Anthony Alvarado - Monarchs

This is a very close match and I was really on edge the whole time.

Game 1: He outplays me and I lose.
Game 2: I go aggro as hell. People were luckily gathered around to see me limiter trooper, thinking I have ring down for game, when I didn't. I'm so bad...
A snipe hunter won it for me later though. He sided banishers though, so i sided in winged rhynos!
Game 3: He goes first. He goes confi. I have a dup, cyber d, and a couple other things. He discarded one of the others (I don't remember what it was). Anyway, then I top trooper. I go cyber, trooper, dup, he is forced to torrential. I draw 3 and I beat some damage in later on with my sexy winged rhynos sidedeck. It goes to end of time, I have the last turn and I'm in the lead. I switch all to def and pass ftw. He goes, ceasefire, I look up, scared outta my mind. It was system down face down. He was messing with me. lol.

Very tough match. GGs Ant.

Anyway, 7-1. First top 8!

They start deckchecks and I'm just talking to people and getting congratulated by friends and previous opponents.

Then a few of us started opponent packs from dan's jaden 2 box to see if he was out 45 bucks, or up 15 bucks. Sure enough, he pulled the trooper and not the burial, which got alot of cheers.

Also note, Nikita Marin is the biggest cheater I have ever met. Its been confirmed by various players. I don't wanna go into detail right now, but keep this in mind if you play in the area.

Anyway, Top 8 starts and my mat has a really cool misprint on it. I play on it for the match.

TOP 8:

Me vs. Paul Levitin - Ratbox w/ gadgets

Game 1: I win really fast.
Game 2: Winged rhynos help, but I still get beat over.
Game 3: I hate wildheart. Also, I forget to attack with a cyber phoenix for no reason..., but it wouldn't have mattered. Wildheart is the gayness.

I misplayed a couple times that match, but o well. In either 2 or 3, he dustshoots 2 dups, trooper, and rhyno and picks rhyno. I summon trooper, he goes mind crush.....

So I get my 14 packs, pulled another Capt gold (yay....) a few bad supers and a really sexy ULT GK commandant. John hooks me up with a ride with him and Sean and I get back to the train station. I meet some other guys from the reg there and we talk till I got to my transfer. I get home at 10:15, eat for the 1st time in 8 hours, and here I am.

Props:
-Hawaiin Pizza was good.
-Cool people who give me rides when I can walk the mile...
-Getting an anti-raigeki
-Top 8ing (why is this 4th?)
-Dinh Pham.
-Really nice mat.
-Ackerman being a funny guy.
-Not playing OTKs.
-Henry, Tariq, and Sean for helping me playtest (despite the fact that I mostly tested CB...)
-Peach snapple.
-Overload fusion.

Slops:
-Bad reception all day on my phone.
-Tariq and 2x Rob scrubbing. Rough beats.
-Nikita not getting DQ'd or banned.
-Getting no trades for some reason
-Dex having to play 2 friends in the 1st 3 rounds.
-No invite
-Drawing Raiza twice during the entire tourny, one of which there was no way to get him out.
-Snipe missing during top 8...
-Ryu Senshi
-Me siding spies b/c I am terrible at this game and didn't realize I would draw into them very fast.


Portions of this report may be slightly off as I only took notes in round 1. This is all by memory.

Thats a nice deck, I'm going to be running something similar the regionals I'm going to next Sunday. I was running it with bazoos and RFTDD but it wasnt working out so i transfered over to the monarch machine build and its working alot better... nice on the top 8!

Yeah, he did. he went 6-0, lost the last 2, but edged in at 8th. He had like a problem with a mirror force being marked or something, and paul caught him milling 9 when he only had 2 troopers on the field.

At SJC Philly, he lied about who went first in the match with me to explain the extra card he drew.

yea Nikita is a ****... he admitted to me that he cheated at nats... and I'll bet anything he cheated at the Philly Regional after the jump to get his invite for 07. No shocker that he tried to cheat again. I think he doesn't have his invite since both times he top 8 after nats he lost in Top 8 (nats reg and edison). Atleast the first regional I saw him after Nats, at bluebell, he scrubbed and I top 4

Everyone looking at that crystal beast deck to get to know how it played...honestly u played it the best outta anyone there...everyone else made alot of mistakes... I used ur match as an opportunity to teach my teammates what not to do against crystal beasts... U played it very intellegently. I wish i could say the same for the other guy and girl who played them

Dex plays CB pretty well too. His girlfriend was the one actually running them in the regional though. She was ok, but doesn't play the game enough. I commend her for doing as well as she did.
