It's Comic Relief..
So Comic Relief is coming soon... and what are we going to do about it?
Well, we were asked by:
The Mall Ilford
High Road
Ilford
Essex
IG1 1RS
if we'd like to come along and run a special Yu-Gi-Oh! event to help raise money for Comic Relief on Sunday 18th March.
So how could we do that?
Well.. for the serious guys, how about we charge you a pound, yes one measley pound to buy 4 tickets that give you entry to 4 King of Games tournaments? We'll give you a promo card just for entering and a pack for every match you win. Does that sound fair?
So how about we make a little incentive - a special prize just to make you want to come and play and hand over some money? How about...1 or 2 lucky people will win FREE entry to every Upper Deck UK event and convention this Summer, Starting with London Expo at the end of May, UK Game Expo, Game '07, anything else we come up with over the Summer holidays (you'll have to wait and see!) and ending with FREE entry to all 4 days at GENCON UK. Does that sound like a reasonable prize?
So.. if all the serious guys are playing... what if you're a little bit younger? Well.. for a pound you can get 4 tickets to play in 4 Under 14 King of Games tournaments, and you'll get a promo card just for taking part. Buy 8 tickets and we'll give you a second different promo card too! You'll get a pack for every match win, and there'll be special prizes of boosters and structure decks all day.
Not sure you're up to playing? Want to get your friends involved but they don't know how to play? We'll be giving demonstrations and teaching people all day (for a small donation) and when somebody takes a demonstration they get to draw one of our lucky cards. At the very least they'll get to keep the card they draw but they could also win boosters and decks too!
And finally.... Seeing as it's Red Nose Day..
Play in at least one tournament wearing your Comic Relief red nose and you'll get to pick and keep a card from our special Red Deck of shiny foil cards..
Now the bad part.. I REALLY REALLY need some people to come and help me out.. if you think you're up to the job PLEASE email me at rob_hooley@upperdeck.com with 'Comic Relief' in the subject title.
Rob :-)

Wow, this sounds very cool indeed.
It's just a shame I'm so far away from it all, over here in Wales. Damn the extortion that is the price of tickets for train journeys. Damn the fact I don't have a car (and can't drive one).

This is gonna be cool.
But then again Im impressed by small things, such as the Midlands expo, but was a good days work there.
To all people who are considering to help out - DO! It will be one of the most fun days which you will have in a long long time, I had soo much fun teaching people to play at Midlands expo you will not believe, and the best thing about it is - ITS FOR CHARITY!
BTW I wanna put my name down to help out, ill contact you through MSN.
But people GO it will be an ace day :)

Aaron, there's NO WAY we can do this... do you know where Essex is? Train journeys range between five and eleven hours! It's near London, and not in a good way - there's no express trains there.

This looks GREAT, I wanna go....
I'll put a link in my latest article on the main site to this thread to help.
Just got to persuade the wife to let me go now.
Maybe a trip to WAG's Boutique while I'll do some duelling might help convince her!!!

Oh man. Why does everything have to be in London??? Why can't they spread the event over several venues so that duelists from the entire nation can participate and contribute to a very worthy cause. But as per usual, only the people living in and around the capital will be able to take part.

Gah, I want to go, but I don't know if I can wake up at about midnight to go on an expensive train that'll take many hours to reach its location...
Going to Essex would be cool though. Never been there before.

Not everything's in London... Nationals haven't been any of the three times I've been, the judge workshops weren't, Midlands Expo wasn't.
I'd like to run a Comic Relief tournament. I think Gary'd let me do it at the shop. Any chance of some promos to give out?

People need a bit of perspective here.
This is for comic relief.
Why the HELL are you complaining that you don't get anything related to a card game when people are DYING for food, water and war?
TRUST ME you have it lucky, you don't get events, they don't get food.
Food > Card Game Events IMO.
You should do your UPMOST to raise money for Comic Relief. If you can't get down to Essex, I notice that you have a level 1 certification, so I think you should put it to good use. Just like me and Hazel (Skwid) you should start organizing your own YuGiOh! related fund raiser (which BTW ours will be in Blackpool, if you wanna particpate/help out contact me for details).
This is what you SHOULD do, your concious is calling you.

If no ones going to '***' if you did organise an event... why would UDE bother holding an official one there anyway? As for no suprise support, why don't you yourself put things up for the prize, charge them say a small amount to enter, and the best gets a prize.
What weve got planned is a YGO related Quiz, Beat the Judge and Some mini tournaments along with loadsa other cool stuff. We have gottent the shop to cover the prizes which most shops would be more then happy to do.
Im sorry but your complaining over a card game, and more specificially an event which is meant to better the lives of people at a disfortune. Your complaining about not getting and event why people are complaining as in about 5 hours they will die from famine.
Its about pulling your finger out, getting games started. Thats what makes the game better. If you can get a group of people together and raise some money are you are doing the world of good. Be imaginative, be creative, be productive.
I feel the notion of Charity on these boards is lost.
