Wolfy's Columbus Regional Report

Well.....I got a call late last night while at work from Pat Smith.....one thing led to another and I ended up waking up at 7, waiting for Pat to show up. After a lil waiting he shows, and I drove him up the regionals. On the way he put together a Chain Strike deck that I believe didn't do too bad at the event....Good job Pat.

Anyway, we got there a lil past 9. Signed up, gave Zach a sweet Zelda CD, loaned yoyoboy my Gadgets (which are now permanently cursed), and filled out my decklist. Since Horus is actually being given some recognition as of late with Gadgets and all, and since I'm a diehard Horus fan, I figured now was a great time to show what they can do.....

So, 10:00 came around and we sat through the player meeting and then Round 1 begins!!!

(Sorry in advance for forgetting most of the player's names, and for the gaps of information)

Round 1: Horus Lockdown vs. Tomato Control (I think?)

Game 1:
Me: 8000
Him: 8000>7900>6400>6300>4800>3800>100>0

Well, to start the game off I summoned a Twin Headed Behemoth and set a Rush Recklessly. My opponent drew and special summoned Cyber Dragon playing right into Rush. Next turn I set another Rush (I had two in my starting hand), and hit for 1500. Next turn, another Cyber Dragon fell prey to Rush. He set a monster, which got Nobleman'ed, and Behemoth hit again for 1500. The next turn he finally managed to Soul Exchange Behemoth for a Mobius which got Booked. I topped a Hyrdogeddon which came down with a Cyber Dragon. Geddon killed Mobius, and the 2nd Geddon and Cyber hit for 3700. The next turn he drew and passed, GG.

Game 2:

Me: 8000>6600>5200>4400>3600>2100>1300
Him: 8000>6000>4800>2400>1800

He went first, setting the traditional one monster and one spell/trap and ended. I Special Summoned Cyber, normal summoned Exiled, Destroying his facedown tomato and then Cyber ran into a Sakuretsu. We drew nothing for a few turns and then he drew into a Don Zaloog which hit me taking a card I forget.....Next turn, I brain Control, attack him and take a card from his hand, and then played Swords. He switched his Don to defense and passed. I topped into a Horus Lv4 and attacked Don, and got out Lv6 at the end phase. He promptly Exiled it next turn. I summoned a geddon and hit him for 1600. He smash'ed it next turn and summoned a tomato, and attacked, and set a spell/trap. So, I summoned a pitch-black warwolf, he tried to Ring it, but I used My Body as a Shield, and then I brain controlled his Tomato for game.

So, I'm 1-0! O YEA!!!!

Round 2: Horus Lockdown vs. Gadgets

Game 1:

Me: 8000>6600>5000>3600>2000
Him: 8000>7700>6100>4500>4300>3300>1200>0

He starts off by summoning Red Gadget. I summon Hyrdogeddon, kill Red Gadget, get another geddon and attack for 1600. He then plays Graceful, discards, plays two Smashing Grounds, and summons Green Gadget, gets another, and attacks for 1400, and sets a spell/trap. I summon Breaker, but it gets Ringed, and then I set my own Ring, which also gets Breaker'ed. He attacks for 1400 again. Next turn I Brain Control, and then tribute for Horus Lv6, and attack for 2300. He activates Pot of Avarice, and then sets monster. I summon Sangan and attack with Lv6, destroying a Gadget, and then hit with Sangan, and then I get out Lv8. He spends a few turns trying to defend himself, but once lv8 hit the field, there wasn't much he could do....good game man.

Game 2:

Me: 8000>6400>5100>4300>3500
Him: 8000>7800>6800>Numbers I didn't write down>0

He lets ME go first.......oooook. So, I summon Sangan and set Book. He plays Breaker, which gets Book'ed. I summon Pitch-Black, but it gets Bottomlessed. I switch Sangan to defense, he summons Green Gadget and starts to pummel. He sets two s/t's. I special summon CD, Normal Breaker, break something. Kill Green with Breaker, and CD gets Sakuretsu'ed. He plays Yellow, runs the Breakers into each other and attacks with Yellow. Next turn I top Graceful discarding Lv6 and something else.....I Premature Lv6, summon Repear and attack with both. Get out Lv8, and end. He decides to try and pummel on my Repear with CD and a Gadget but they get promptly Mirror Force'd. He sets a f/d and ends. I switch lv8 to defense, and have Repear attack into a Widespread Ruin (One of my best reads all day), set EC, and Magician of Faith, and end. Next turn he tries to mount an assault with a F/d and a Gadget. It gets EC'ed, and next turn I win off my MoF'ed Graceful draw into MST.

2-0

Alright....I'm doing good!!!

Round 3: Horus Lockdown vs. Apprentice/Monarch Deck

Game 1:

Me:8000>7500>5400>3000>0
Him: 8000>6400>4800

I start off with a Pitch-Black and 2 set s/t's. He plays Heavy, Cyber Dragon and Breaker. I manage to wipe those out and get 2 Hydrogeddon hits in, but then he gets out a Thestalos who kills then and my Sangan who gets me Exile to destroy the Thestalos, but I get no follow-up and lose.

Game 2:

Me: 8000>7700
Him: 8000>7700>6400>2700>1100>0

I can't do anything but set Ring first turn. He sets a monster, which I run into with a Cyber Dragon. It was Old Vindictive which took Cyber Dragon with it. I set Royal Decree and end. He tries to Repear me, but it gets Ring'ed. I attempt the same thing but it gets Torrential'ed, but I chain Decree. A few turns go by then he Pot of Avarices and then kills my Repear, and sets a monster. I summon a Cyber, and a Pitch Black, and hit for 3700. He sets a monster and a s/t. Cyber hits the face down magician to get back the storm my Repear robbed him of earlier, and the Pitch Black hits for 1600. He Heavy's away my Decree, and then Soul Exchanges for Zaborg, leaving me with nothing on the field. I top into a Cyber Dragon, which gets tributed for Enemy Controller to take his Zaborg to attack for game.

Game 3: (One of my favorites all day)

Me: 8000>7200>4800>4300>3500
Him: 8000>6000>5200>2900>0

This game was fast paced....he starts with a set monster. Again, all I can do is set Decree. He flip summons Gravekeeper's Spy, gets another Tributes for Thestalos which discards lv8 (which actually saves me later) and then I take some punishment. He sets a f/d and end. I end phase Decree, and draw into Hydrogeddon. I book his Thesty, EC his Spy into attack mode, and summon Hydro. Clearing his monster field and leaving me with 3 geddon's, and a decree. He brain controls one geddon next turn, and has them ram each other. Then sets a monster. I run into a Repear, which gets Brain Controlled. Next turn he Special Summons Cyber, and then Breaker who destroys my set Enemy Controller which I use to tribute Hydro and take control of Cyber. He ends, taking back his Cyber....next turn, I play my Pot of Avarice which had been sitting in my hand, and draw into Mystical Space....w00t.....and Graceful Charity (much bigger w00t). Graceful gets activated and I draw into game. I discard, then Special CD, Brain his Breaker, tribute Breaker for Lv6. Attack, get out lv8, and then winning the match shortly after. Eat that monarchs!!!

Round 4: Horus Lockdown vs. monarchs....again. (and he's friends with my Round 2 opponent...so he wants revenge)

Game 1:

Me: 8000>5900>>5100>4000>3200>2000>900>200>0
Him: 8000>7200>6000

My opening hand sucks.....all I can do is set MoF and Royal Decree. He plays Exiled and Cyber. hits me for 2100, and sets a s/t. I brain his Cyber but run into goats. After going through some Apprentices, he gets out Pheonix. I fight back by getting out Lv8, but then he rips a Zaborg and I can't recover.

Game 2:

Me: 8000>6300>Number I can't read...my handwriting sucks....
Him: 8000>6500>5000>3300>1400>0

I start much better with Behemoth and Ring. I manage to land 2 hits with Behemoth before it finally dies for good due to Old Vindictive. His second Old Vindictive claims my Hyrdogeddon the following turn. He then RotA's a DDA, which gets ring'ed. He plays a f/d or two, which get heavy'ed. Two Breaker w/ token hits later and it's over for him. Good game.

Game 3:

Me: 8000>7200>5600>4000>2500
Him: 8000>5700>3400>2600>1000>0

He gets out a Cyber Dragon which hits a Scapegoat. Next turn I Enemy Controller my Goat for his Cyber, which gets tributed for Lv6. 2300 to him thanks to the Decree'd Mirror Force prompts him to Exile'd my Horus, which gets premi'ed next turn for 2300 more, and that makes my opponent do the same thing on his Exile'd. I hit him with a Hydro. Then I spend a few turns trying to get around a DDWL and Apprentices, which do get me my other 2 Hyrdo's though. I have a Ring in my hand, but my own Decree stops me from winning. I decide to play swords. After 2 turns of building up, he decides if he wants to make a move, he needs to NOW. So, heavies away Swords and Decree, and then actually manages to clear my field, but that doesn't stop him from getting Ring'ed next turn for game.

So, I'm 4-0...what POSSIBLY could go wrong?

Round 5: Horus Lockdown Vs. Tomato Swap w/ Darkworld and White Horned Dragon !?!?!??!!?

Game 1:

Me: 8000>6600>5000>1500>0
Him: 8000>6400>6200>6000

Well, I manage to get out a Cyber Dragon and hit him for a lil bit, but then it gets swapped for Tomato....and all goes spiraling out of control........gg2me.

Game 2:

Me: 8000>5900>4400>0
Him: 8000>5900>3800>3000

Well, I managed to hit him with Cyber Dragon after taking some damage from a Ring of their Cyber. And I had field control until they Card Destruction'ed (discarding broww and white horned dragon) to draw Goldd, Cyber, and Brain for exactly game......

Ooooooooooook then.....4-1. no big deal. Plenty of game left.

Round 6: Horus lockdown vs. Chimeratech OTK

Game 1:

Me: 8000>7200
Him: 8000>1600>0

I got lucky he didn't have the combo in his starting hand....I set a Hydrogeddon and ended. Next turn he played Steelcage, and a few sets, and a f/d monster. I drew and set Decree, and set my other starting hand Hydro, and ended. Next turn he flips summons Morphing. I discard 2x Brain Control and Horus Lv6. I get a Premature, Charity, another Lv6, MST, and My Body. He plays Future Fusion. I think he has the combo, but his back field is full, and he does activate anything, or he didn't have the overload. So, I endphase Decree. Next turn, I MST Steelcage, Graceful, Premi Lv6. flip summon my two Hyrdros, normal Summon Pitch Black and just go crazy!!!! Lv6 kills Jar, he takes a total of 6400 and I have Lv8, 2x Hyrdo, Decree, and Pitch on the field. GG much?

Game 2:

Me: 8000>7200
Him: 8000>7000>4000>0

Well....he plays a Ancient Gear Soldier, and then plays Ancient Gear Drill to get Future Fusion f/d. He plays Nightmare and ends. I realize if I wanna make a move, I kinda have to now....and so I do. I top into Graceful. Get out lv 6, ram the Soldier, set Royal and play Swords. And that's pretty much game....

FYI, Horus ruins Chimera if you can get Lv8 out fast enough.

So, I'm 5-1, and I just turned a Chimera OTK deck into swiss cheese.

Round 7: Horus Lockdown vs. Jameison's Shrink Deck

Game 1:

Me: 8000>7200>4800>2100>0
Him: 8000>7000>4800

Well, he confi's my starting hand and takes the one good card. I try to fight back, but can't. My one good offensive attempt got foiled by Shrink.

Game 2:

Me: 8000>7600
Him: 8000>4300>3400>1300>0

This game was quick and decisive. Don got book'ed. Cyber and Hyrdo came down and caused some major damage. A SS#4 and a Shrink almost caused a major upset, then I ripped a Exile one turn, and then a crossout the next for game.

Game 3:

Me: 8000>a bunch of numbers a didn't write down>0
Him: 8000>5900

Not much to say here, he took control and I never regained it. Basically, if I had Horus he had a non-spell option, if I didn't have Horus he had Shrink. gg2me.

5-2, but I have great tie breakers, I might have a shot.

Round 8: Horus Lockdown vs. Monarch.

I'm not even going to take the time to post the life point counts for this one. All ya need to know is that my Hyrdos constantly hit Spies, and then he would drop Monarch, after monarch, after monarch.

game, set, match.

So.....5-3. I am officially outta the running.

Round 9: Horus Lockdown vs. Fiends w/ Snipes Hunters, Orcs, and DDV

Game 1:

Me:8000>6500>4900>4100>3300
Him: 8000>6500>5300>3700>1400>0

I would like to point out that my opponent currently likes Horus. Keyword currently.

We start off slow, setting monsters and traps, not doing too much. I finally make a move, tributing for Horus Lv6. I go to attack on of his f/d's, but he chains DDV (the f/d was Orc), but I chain with Decree, -2 for him. So, I instead hit the other monster, which was a tomato which got Snipe Hunter. After contemplating, I decide I will get Lv8 despite the Snipe Hunter ready to snipe me. Well, next turn the snipe hunter sniped out Lv8, and then he flipped over his f/d Heavy. Next turn I pot of Avarice, draw my 2, and get out Lv8 again by killing Snipe with a Lv6, and I set Ring and Book of Moon. He plays another Snipe Hunter and takes out Horus again. I ring his snipe before he can do anymore damage, and then he sets on S/T. I summon a Horus lv 4 and attack, but he runs into a goat, which gets eaten and I bring out Lv6 for another go. Next turn he has pass. I draw, set Magician of Faith, and attack a goat, but I have no more lv8 in the deck. Next turn he once again passes, so I flip summon magician and get back Pot of Avarice, but can't play it yet. So, I kill his last two goat and pass. Next turn he finally makes a move by prematuring Snipe Hunter, destroys my lv 6. Summons Breaker who breaks Book of Moon, which I chain on my Magician. He attacks, I get back a Spell card I forgot, and then I take 1600. Next turn I pot of avarice again. I block for two turns with goats, then I special summon Cyber Dragon, Brain Control his snipe hunter, which takes 2 tries to knock out his f/d Magician of Faith, which had been there for a few turns. After attacking, I exile snipe hunter. Next turn he smashing grounds my Cyber, and then passes. We spend a few turns stalling, not doing much of anything. I finally draw Premature and bring back lv6 again for another go. He takes 2300, and looks like he might die just from overexposure to Horus, but he top decks an Exiled Force and takes my Horus out. We stall some more, he sets a monster. Then I draw into a Cyber Dragon, and a Hydrogeddon. Which both come down, Hydro attacks into a Reaper, which gets Rush Recklessly'ed, and then Cyber hits for game.

And, for the record, he now officially hates Horus.

Game 2:

Me: 8000>6400>5600>5000>3400
Him: 8000>6400>4800>>2500>900>200>0

Well, he goes first setting a single f/d s/t. I summon breaker which gets Ring'ed. We play defensive for a turn or two. Then I get out Lv6 and run into a Night Assailant. He set a f/d and ended his turn. I summon Pitch and attack and hit for 1600, and then set Mirror Force. He summons his Snipe Hunter which kills both my Mirror, but couldn't kill Pitch. Next turn I brain control his Snipe, Snipe out his Mirror Force (we love doing the same thing, don't we?), then I tribute for Lv6, and attack to bring him down to 900. Next turn all he can do is set a monster. I draw and attack, running into Newdoria which kills Lv6. I attack, but get blocked by scapegoat. So I set Rush. He draws a Banisher and attacks my Pitch. I obviously chain Rush, dropping him to 200. I hit a goat the next turn, but then an Orc pummels my Wolf. Next turn I'm forced to take a hit from a banisher. I then Top into a Cyber Dragon and attack to kill Orc. He draws and with 2 cards in hand tries to kill my Dragon with Snipe, but he fails both times and that's the game.

I figure with the new Ban list coming up....and the possibile restricting of Gadgets, and a new meta possibly on the rise as of March 1st (my birthday), I better show off my favorite deck while I still have a good oppurtunity to take advantage of it.

Great report, and very nice deck.

I've always wanted to give Horus a try, but just like Gravekeepers, I lack the necessary cards to do so

And 6-3 is very good, considering you played what amounts to an Anti-Gadget deck, and only played against 1 person running Gadgets

Oh, and dump those Pitch-Black Warwolfs for Mirage Dragons...that way you can side-deck into Dragon's Mirror

Yup, and I can understand how I lost round 8, and that Kyle just got the exact three cards he needed with Card Destruction in Round 5....but how I lost to Jameison was probably the biggest surprise to me all day. Gotta give credit to him though, his deck is efficient. I guess I just drew the good, but wrong cards for the right times.

ROFL....thanks. I gave up keeping track once my Hydro's hit your spies, and then you started Monarch'ing me to kingdom come. I got beat pretty bad, but at least I didn't get sacked by Chimera or something.

Nice playin ya man. A shame my deck didn't at least give you a lil run for your money.

Rinoa: I can't get on AIM atm. And I had only one "encounter." I couldn't find the rest of em, so I never got around to revealing who I am over "there." You know where I mean......
