YGO 50 years from now?
What are your opinions and predictions on what the game will be like?
Will it be the equivalent to the hipstery (i use this term affectionately) resurgance of record player sales?

Yugioh wont be around 50 years from now. I'd be surprised if it's around 10 years from now to be honest.

To clarify, I meant as a niche. I don't think Konami will still sell physical cards in 2064. But collectors will still have their collections and programmers will still have their apps/sites.
Every 5 years I say YGO will die in 5 years, so I'll stop saying it this time.

I wouldn't say YGO will be around 50 years, but also not be something that'll die in 10 years.
When this game dies, it'll be the moment where Konami decides to stop supporting it, or when they do something so stupid everyone leaves. The first one is 100% certain, the second, um, probably 95%.

Yugioh will be long gone, once the game stops getting support cards will stop coming out and whichever is the last ban list will be what sticks forever.
New players wont come into the game if there are no more shops hosting tournaments for the game, if there was no money in it there would be no point in hosting tournaments, and if there was no prize support, youd be getting what? store credit? to get what exactly?
In 50 years we will be lucky if yugioh is even remembered at all lol

There's no way this will go 50 years. That's a VERY long time. I'm not saying this because Yu-Gi-Oh is bad or anything. It's just that games with that kind of longevity are few and far between.
I mean, video games as we think of them now, for example, haven't even been around for 50 years yet. Plus there will be the problem of distribution–presumably no one will continue to even reprint existing cards, so how would new generations get the cards?

With any luck, it'll be a bad memory for those that still remember it in 2064.

50 years is a very long time, especially since few games have that kind of staying power. But for example, DnD has been around for 40 years and MtG for 20 years. Yugioh has been around for about 15 years, and it seems to be enjoying a good level of popularity right now. So who knows? Time will tell.

Here is how I see it going down.
In the next 5-10 years the part of Konami that makes Yu-Gi-Oh goes bankrupt or Yu-Gi-Oh! stops making profit and gets cancelled.
DevPro / YGO PRO / Duel Network / others try to keep it going online by releasing their own sets. Works for a while but its too fragmented and unorganised slowly stops. Yu-Gi-Oh! Completely dies out.

To be honest, it will be more like *old mans voice* "He--eey kids, that card game you're playing on your flying motor skate board phones once was a printed out card game I played in my youth" "Shut up, grandpa".

The duel disk will still be non-functional, but with technologies like Google Glass, that are designed to control us, we would be able to use Augmented Reality to have cool stuff.

YGO will always be a cash cow, and has an unbelievably solid playerbase. It's definitely possible it could stay around in 2064.

Surprised by the number of people thinking Yu-Gi-Oh will end in 50 years, it just dawned on me recently that itself and Pokemon are capable of surviving that long, the same way Star Trek has existed in some form since the 1960s.
Whenever someone asks when will Yu-Gi-Oh end, the answer is always "when Konami/Takahashi stops making money off it" and let's be honest when is that ever going to happen?

Hopefully by 2064 my CoD skills will enable me to actually shoot you from a distance.
Seriously, all guns should just be like video game controllers. So profitable

In 2064, BLS would create an SAO for us.
And then Konami will hack it, trap us, and then collect money off life support.
In 2065, Konami becomes a government.
3 years later, Konami controls America.
The next day, Yugioh becomes a national sport, and the Winter Olympics are replaced with World Championships.
