My random t8 torny report at the Soldiery

ok so I am board so I decided to post a tournament report for my local Yesterday well anyway here we go

*DISCLAIMER: Im am sorry if i forgot or mispelled your name or i got confused with which round it was*

Ok so I got to the Soldiery at about 1:45 and have 15 min to get the few cards I needed so thanks to my Friends Josh and Odell I got all of them except a few side deck cards in time. I decided to use my fifth gadget I had been testing with for a While now and I am glad I did so they posted the parings and I had to play my Friend who loned me some important cards Josh

Cant remember much but I know he got a Overload out and I fissured it xD

I admit i lucksacked him this game I had Gracceful Confo A gadget limiter and Offering Opening hand and I went frist got some random stuff wit Gracful i didnt care about
summoned the gadget got another one played Confo getting rid of his Future Fusion (he had that and Overload open again =\) then set offering
he set a mon and ended I toped NoC GG

he made a few mistakes which led to his downfall

I had a gadget out he summoned DDA and atked it I Widespred to kill it he sets ends I summone Green gadget he chains RoD to the summon =\ fliped Offering + my own RoD FTW

I cant find my LP Paper for this one not sure where it went I might not have wrote this one down eh

he got a gadget out 1st so he won right there pretty much

Duel 2

He didn't have much to side for the Mirror Match and I did I took advantage of that with the power of Mind Crush this was the only game where I drew my Side cards During Swiss and In fact I think I drew all of them.

Duel 3

same as above except I sided more aggro because he was going more defensive

This person is the son of on of My team mates he really doesn't care about the game and played cause he was board its sad that he was in 1st when I played him he hasnt changed his deck except for bans since July =\

anyway I had GG but with a Snipe hunter I rolled 3 1s and 6s in a row which caused me to loss if I had gotten ONE of those to be someting else I had GG

I swarmed him with gadgets and got him low I made a few mistakes cause I forgot he traded ME his only mirror force and i was worried about that >.>
I got him to 21 and summoned breaker I broke RoD he chained then I chained Rush Recklessly FTW

he played graceful 3 times but he could draw his sided Goldds untill he was topdecking xD he swaped me a sangan and I beat the crap out of him with it intill GG

1st game I Drew Ok but I kept drawing Extra Gadget witch ended up getting Clogged he drew ok but Couldn't get his Hydrogeddons to go Off still he ended up winning this one

Duel 2
He drew pretty badly I noticed and I took advantage of it I saw Decrees so I sideded out most of My traps but it didn't matter
won this one

Duel 3
I opened with 4 traps and An Aggro Card (ether Berserk Gorilla or Bazoo I sided in)
he had Magic Cylinder and RoD for my aggro Card =\the n he had Dusts and Decrees for my traps
Quick duel for him

Final 6-2

My deck list is in my sig I was really Testing out the Side witch Worked Wonderfully also the mai deck was Good considering that the person that had 2 of my Widespreds was in Mexico so Ihad to use BTH over them still I might keep one of the BTHs in

My name would be Mihai but you got my brother right.

Ok...story goes like this: Round 2, Savage Jordan loses to a very nicely done Gadget Deck. I immediatelly want to play the guy and it happens. Both my main and my sided duels I draw crap...the guy did not even know I had hydrogeddons in my deck ffs. I got owned.

I spend next few hours thinking..."dark world?" "Deck devastation virus?...what dark monsters would work in side deck? maybe goldd/silva?...maybe mefists and spell cancellers and decrees instead of bottomless? Don zaloog?"

But then I realised, his overwelming hand poer, his huge pile of traps, combined with fissures, smashing grounds, creature swaps etc can be useful for me...he simply must summon every turn.

I decide to summon high-power monsters and just let them sit in attack mode. he cant attack them, and if i attack i'll certainly lose them in his 10+ destruction traps. this way i'm only risking fissure/smasihng/swap. how many of those can he draw?

Well second round of Top 8, after swearing to myself that (just like stein) i won't lose to this deck without fighting i play him again. My plan works, and combined with a better hand I 2- 0 him.

Later in the finals I play the Jakeman (sorry i dont know your real life name). It didnt take me by surprise, in my oppinion his deck wasnt as good as the one of my previews opponent's. I dont know why...he did defeat my brother (whose deck i never playtested against yet ) but I felt I'm ready.

I did the same thing, extremely casual gameplay...correct side deck, efficient use of my traps...and it worked well. I got him at 2 - 1. Not a bad game at all though.

EDIT: so...you weren't only Gadget to make T8. you were only Gadget to make T4 though.

Also who was using the Gadget deck Jordan Lost to I didnt see that one but the Only other people I know of using gadget were Wayne, Allen and Brylan and Allen and Brylans wern't very well made

Well...I'm not going to lie...I don't see how gadgets are supposed to be so good. I see why they APPEAR to be good, but not why they are.

Always big hand. Yeah...but we both know its full with 1300atk monsters.

A lot of traps to kill anything coming your way. Yeah...but can't you have 12+ traps in a normal apprentice 9for example) deck?

Always a monster to summon. Yeah but...wouldn't nimbles or gravekeepers or giant germs etc do the same? and some?

No tributes except Cyber dragons. Ok...everything's playable but...everything's weak.

So you have 45 cards, a large ammount of destructive cards...all reliant on long long chains of cards. Dark World and Deck Devastation Virus completely own them. Monarchs do not. Apprentice decks devastate them. Chain Strike devastate them. Chimeratech decks should do very well against them. They're easily defeated by side decks of Spell canceller - Dust Tornado. NOT by Decrees. NOT by King Tiger WanGoo. A typical tomato-don zaloog should beat them terribly. A Normal Deck beats them badly.

I guess the showdown is between Apprentices and the Side Deck of Monarch Decks. But its so easy to side deck.

Exiled force - worthless.
Bottomless trap hole - Worthless
Sakuretsu Armor - Worthless (Almoust. debatable).

There is only one thing that gives you as a gadget user stand a chance: Cyber Dragons. if I wipe out your cyber dragons you're...finished.

At least that's how I see it. i may be wrong, but after facing two Gadget Decks in my Top 8 I proved myself correct.I believe that just like its two predecessors, Stein and Jowgen, the Gadgets are great decks but have limited potential. They "run out of juice" if things arent too great in opening hand and first 2 - 3 turns. I think we'll see a lot of them...But I think they'll always be second-class decks after the Monarchs and Apprentices.

well Mihai I understand your point of view and many people agree with you, I understand Dark World can own gadgets if not prepared which I was not, DDV will at most take 2 or 3 gadgets and is a trap which can be stoped pretty easily with smart side-deck decisions (decrees and such) there are a few cards That i have found to destroy Gadgets but i do not want to go into that
also check out the torny report for the Gadgets that won teh Richmound Regionals

EDIT: shrink, Rush Recklessly, Limiter removal the attack value is nothing to care about and if you saw my side deck I Saw you point about how weak they were.

They're weak, and they can be boosted up. I agree there. I didnt do a very good job explaining what I'm thinking because I cant put it into words. I simply came up to the conclusion that if I summon high power monsters and refuse to attack I'm at least making you use one more card than the facedown...making your hand evnetually become only gadgets.

After all you still draw one card per turn. Not necessarily one spell-trap...and even so...if it's a trap it wont be useful. eventually you'll be out of spells, and hopefully i'll still have monsters. Gadget decks are very calculated. i tried to...outcalculate them. It worked 2/3 times but it was very close.
