UPDATE 5/29/11: After a long hiatus, I'm back to actively taking point trades again! (I needed a kick in the ass to get me going again, and a certain someone's epic point batch gave me enough stuff I wanted to keep to convince me to start up again.)

There have been some adjustments to the point system - nothing HUGE but enough to be noteworthy.


The Yu-Gi-Oh TCG Point System, effective 5/29/11:
Commons = 0.8
Starter/Structure deck foils, and Sphinxes = 5
Rares = *4*
Supers = 20
Ultras/Secrets/Gold Series foils = 40
Ultimates = 40
Premium Pack/Hidden Arsenal Supers = **2.5**
Premium Pack/Hidden Arsenal Secrets = 16

Promos count at their printed rarity; a video game promo printed as a super counts as a super. A tin promo that is printed as a Secret counts as a Secret, and so on.

No tip/strategy cards.

No foreign cards.


The 2009 Pokemon Point System, effective 11/11/09:
Commons/uncommons = 1.25 points each
(Common energy cards = 1 point each)
Booster pack holo rares = 25 (NOTE: Normal foil patterns on a common/uncommon are still a 5-point card. This isn't new, it's a clarification on how things always worked. In order for a card to earn the full 25 points, it has to be foil AND have a star in the lower-right AND not be a promo.)
Pokemon EX/Pokemon Lv. X = 50

ALL of the following are 5 points each:
*Parallel foil common/uncommons
*Normal Foil Commons/Uncommons
*Promos, whether common or foil
*Non-foil rare cards (with the star in the lower-right hand corner)
*Foil energy cards

No foreign cards.


AVAILABLE POINT BONUSES:
Wall of Ivy:
Looking to receive as many copies as possible of the common card "Wall of Ivy", for Julia Hedberg's contest.

1 to 20 Wall of Ivy = 10 points each
21 to 50 Wall of Ivy = 15 points each
51 to 99 Wall of Ivy = 20 points each
100+ Wall of Ivy = 25 points each

To claim this bonus:
*You must let me know how many Wall of Ivy cards are going to be in the trade.
*THEY MUST ALL BE SEPARATED FROM OTHER CARDS. If I have to go digging through the box, that doesn't count; I'm offering this bonus for you to save me the time of going through the cards for these.
*They must all be in mint condition.
*To claim the higher point values (for larger quantities), they must all come in the same shipment.

There is no limit to the number of Wall of Ivy cards I will accept for this promotion, so long as Julia is running her contest. Once she is no longer accepting Wall of Ivy cards, this bonus ends.


Mewtwo bonus:

I collect Mewtwo cards from the Pokemon TCG -- any variety.

The bonus: 150 points per Mewtwo. Maximum of 1 Mewtwo bonus per 10,000 points being traded. (For example, a 30,000 point trade can include 3 Mewtwos and have them all count as 150 points each.) Minimum of 5,000 points in a single trade to claim the bonus.

The conditions of collecting this bonus:
*The Mewtwo must either be an English-printed card, or a Japanese version of the card I don't currently have. (If you have Japanese Mewtwos, contact me first.)
*The card(s) must be in mint condition. Near-mint cards will be accepted at the actual value of the card on the regular point system. Non-mint cards will not receive any points.
*The Mewtwos must be separated from the rest of the cards in the trade.



Non-mint rules are in effect -- I will deduct points for rares and foils that aren't in mint condition, as well as if a SIGNIFICANT amount of commons are bad (like if they have marker on the side of a bunch of 'em for some reason.)



I'll take either bulk in points, or trade a large quantity of low-end stuff for one or two high-end cards; generally if you're taking a lot of stuff off of me this way I'll throw in extras to sweeten the deal.

For those of you who are sending me Yu-Gi-Oh commons or rares in a Large Flat Rate Box, please package your cards in the following way to minimize the chance of damage to the cards while in transit:

Step 1: Take an empty Large Flat Rate Box, like so:

Step 2: Take one row of commons and stack them in horizontally, like this:

Step 3: Do the same with two additional rows next to the first.

Step 4: Make three smaller rows running the opposite direction, to fill the space on the side of the box. This is importan, as it makes sure the cards don't shake around while in shipping.

Step 5: Repeat Steps 2, 3, and 4, on top of the cards you put in the box in Step 2.

Step 6: Make 10 small stacks of cards to fill up the rest of the space in the box, like this:

Step 7: Finally, add six stacks in the opposite direction on the other side of the box.

Voila! You've fit 7,500+ cards in one box, while making sure none of them will get banged up.


If shipping both commons and rares in the same box, make sure to separate them (have rows of rares on the bottom, commons on top), and make a note of that on the box itself.

Foils do not need to be individually sleeved or in toploaders; however, if shipping a small quantity, a plastic deckbox would be nice to prevent damage. If shipping a larger quantity of foils along with other commons and rares, please use one or more tins as necessary, or other smaller boxes, and work around those while putting the rest of the commons/rares in the box.

Point System mini-FAQ (added 3/29/09)

I get the same questions regarding my trading method over and over, so I figure I'll answer them here and direct people to this portion of my thread when they get asked in the future.

Q: Why do you take bulk quantities of cards? What do you do with them? Do you have a million cards just sitting in your room or something?
A: I take them in trade because I resell them to people who sell cards in bulk. I do this as a business; yes, I turn a profit.

Q: But that isn't fair, is it? Aren't trades supposed to be of even value?
A: This is a "Trading Card Game" -- the trading is just as much a part of the game as dueling. I'm attempting to maximize the value of my collection, and yes, that means that trades are going to favor myself in that respect. In essence, the amount of money I take in doing this is a "middleman fee" so to speak, money I get in exchange for taking your bulk cards and finding someone willing to take them at a higher rate. I do it, so you don't have to.

Q: I remember when your point values on some cards are higher, what gives?
A: I'm limited in what I can pay for cards by what the people who buy them from me are willing to pay. If my buyers no longer need cards as badly, or begin to get overstocked, they reduce the amount they're willing to pay me, which means I need to cut my rates as well to maintain the same profit margin to where this is worth my time. If I can't turn a profit, I have no reason to take bulk cards.

And oftentimes I will increase my rates when the people who get cards from me do the same. Economy sucks right now, but I pay out what I can to stay fair to people who trade with me. I'm not nickel-and-diming anyone because I like doing so, if I'm doing that, I'm doing it because I need to lower my rates to survive as a bulk dealer.

EDIT: Commons will fluctuate between 0.7 and 0.85 (currently at 0.8) over the summer months, I'm pretty sure.

Hey Creator. I did points for the past couple years. Anyways, long story short I filtered the points into sets and I'm rather close to 3x of everything from LOB-CRMS area. I'm kind of stuck now though. I have this bulk and I'd be okay with dropping it but I want to find a way or place to drop it so I can fill out the rest of my sets and eventually sell them during the holidays. To get a general idea of what I'm dealing with you could skim through my list. It hasn't changed much since last I checked. I thought you might be able to help or at least point me in the right direction maybe as you seem pretty good at what you do haha. I'd gladly Drop Off points if you could pull stuff I need from what you've got and have got coming in at some reasonable rate. Lemme know if you can help. I'm really stuck here c.c

Edit: Also. At some point I had a deal with a guy where he bought commons sorted by set from me but it fell out. So now I've got stuff in little packs of 100 with a paper slip that says LOB or TLM or RDS etc. Are those worth more than point rates to anyone? I'd assume so as they're already sorted for whoever might re-distribute them like a store or something

I've never traded anything for points like this before, but I'm whittling down my cards to just the ones I want to keep, and have 2,500 commons I need to offload. Maybe some rares, too.

How does this work? Do you have a point value for each of the cards on your list, or do we make you an offer? And would so few be worth it? Because I saw you mentioned that 7,500 fit in a flat-rate box.
