Default Upstart Goblin

Upstart Goblin is the stupidest card in YGO. Think about the card itself, "Draw 1 card from your deck. Your opponent gains 1000 LPs." Hypothetically speaking, using the card's effect is the exact same as not having it in your deck and not paying the 1000 LP's. If you didn't have the card in your deck, you would've drawn the EXACT same card you would have drawn by Upstart Goblin's effect except w/o giving your opponent free LP's. The only upside I see to this card is having multiple copies in your hand at the same time, since it would be like having an extra draw phase. Am I the only one who understands this concept? Discuss.

That seems to make sense but if you're trying to thin your deck and get the cards you need faster, why wouldn't you just run Reckless Greed instead w/o assisting your opponent w/ 1000 LP's.

I understood the thinning effect, but it just seems like a waste of a spot in a 40 card deck.

Because you have to skip draw phases with reckless, you need more than 1 set to get a good result. Also it's a trap so it's slow.

Upstart is for people who can't afford Duality... like me, and for LSS.

Because Reckless Greed is a -1.

I can understand the OP's feelings, but unfortunately he's used the wrong reasons to be hating on the card. Thread is made of fail, and it's bringing more fail into it (see quote).

This card is Redundant in a 41+ card deck.

Its a balanced card. Giving your opponent 1000-3000 life points can mean one extra turn to turn it around for them.

If your deck needs insane speed (Hopeless Dragon, for instance), it is a great card to have. It basically makes your deck a 37 card deck, which is great for decks that need the speed.

which is also the reason for duality's insane price and people prefering it over upstart in most decks.

im sorry but this is very uneducated question. upstart is a phenomenal card. it can be played in alot of decks. its main purpose is deckthinning. think, i discard thunderdragon, get 2 from deck, then play upstart. i just thinned my deck out to draw a better card. upstart is used for decks that search alot so they can draw the trump card as i call it

What this guy said, with less upstart fanboyism.

In all honesty if you can't special summon the turn you use it you are just telling your opponent you are either desperate or are getting something ready... -sets warning and seven tools-

The Zombie Guy is terrible at yugioh. Need proof? Here is his deck.

Upstart is good but never is a PoD replacement. The card only works in certain decks that are trying to fish something out of their decks. Also a card for noobs that netdecked use to replace their BoMs.

You mean the warning you don't own?
