I had a Gyarados on my first all water BT team (Water Warriors 1) and it did ok (but not as good as Lanturn did later).
Gyarados@lum or shell bell
=EQ
=HP: Flying
=Hyper Beam
=Surf (replace with something better)

Gyarados@Leftovers
Dragon Dance
Earthquake
HP Flying / Return
Taunt
use Taunt when you suspect a Toxic or WoW...
having Return and HP Flying is pointless...

EQ and Hyper Beam are I think pretty much necessary on a Gyarados... and a water move is a necessity

If you look down at the bottom of the page, you will find a moveset guide...
which includes Gyarados!

Unless you cheat for the DVs you want, why HP over Aerial Ace. With probability on its side, AA is usually stronger than HP.
So, what I'm saying:
Unless you know that your HP is stronger, use AA.
Plus, it never misses.

The reason is Gyarados cannot learn Aerial Ace, nor any other Flying type move. So if you want STAB for Flying, it is HP: Flying or nothing.

Yeah, the smileys were way better on the old board...
HP Rock also can work... only Flygon resists both EQ and HP Rock... EQ and HP Flying are resisted by 5 and 2 arent even in RS... Skarmory, Solrock, Lunatone, Aerodactyl, Zapdos...

Gyrados@Chesto/Liechi Berry
-EQ
-HP:flying
-DD
-Rest/Taunt
Taunt is great for taking out tanks/spikers. Taunt, they waste a move, DD, they switch, then if they try to haze, taunt, and sweep otherwise. If you expect a team of all sweepers, then chesto/rest works well.
Don't use water moves, his SA is horrid.

Uh, what the heck is VOLT TACKLE? Do you mean spark, charge, shock wave, or thunder? What is its effect and who learns it (is it a TM)?
