Default Honest VS Honest
My opponent activates Honest, then I go ahead and activate honest...

Can I just activate my honest without chaining it to the opponents honest?

For future reference TCG Q and A please. And no you can't activate your honest without chaining to his honest since you are in the damage calculation step of the battle phase.
