Nintendo DS Networking
Mods feel free to lump this with Slingblade's very large DS post, but since it's another poster.... *shrug*

Kamalot writes "It looks like Nintendo is preparing a wireless peer-to-peer network of Nintendo DS ' to allow a new way of playing games online. Each Nintendo DS could includes a repeater hub to extend and share an 802.11 signal. A thread on GameCubicle unveils more, including a service called MarioNette and some disturbing marketing pieces with hidden images and messages." As with everything involving the new handhelds, take this one with a grain of salt.

Any thoughts on having a self-sustaining network of Nintendo DS networked to each other? Nintendo should probably also sell a wireless router for those who have broadband and a DS.

Here's a bit of my news I posted last night:
those who aren't familiar with XLink Kai, it is a program that runs on your computer and allows you to play console games online even if the game only supports local LAN play. The free service is currently available for Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube.

Firstly, I've been discussing things with our mod crew, and it seems like we're gonna be supporting the new Nintendo DS handheld console on Kai. The DS has a built in 802.11b network adapter, which means that people with a wireless-enabled router will be able to play their DS games over Kai. We still don't have full details regarding Nintys own online plans for this console, but I would expect the usual chunk of games with 'LAN but no online' - so we'll just see how it all pans out.

Well, I think that Nintendo pursuing Online wi-fi gaming and networking is great. but what about the consoles? They're just not applying there handheld division strategy to the GC and Revolution.

Given that it is based off of 802.11b technolgy that means that there is 12 Mbps of bandwidth of share. (1.5 MBps) For the best performance you'd only be able to support around 6-10 both directions before you start getting noticeable lag on a twitch fest shooter.

Warp Pipe teaming up with Nintendo to bring online gaming to DS? Team up to bring the GC online. Or maybe the Revolution. Nintendo is blind. Completely blind.
