Affinity was broken, I take it you don't remember the days of Arcbound Ravager, Disciple of the Vault, the Artifact Lands, and gasp... Skullclamp? The most broken Artifact Equipment ever printed?
Yeah and Tolarian Academy in Type 1 Casual back then was nuts. Add 1 Blue to your mana pool for each Artifact you control? Plus now with Tezzeret the Seeker?

Me too It's just so neat and organized.
I'm looking forward to this set just because I started Magic when Mirrodin first came out. Those were the first novels I read and am interested to see where the storyline goes.

Please let this set make me have a more active interest in Magic again. I've been in such a funk lately.

Same here. Haven't attended FNM since reborn, bought zero packs of m10/zen/wwk. Hopefully a new mirrodin will change that --- after all, MD5 is my favorite block.

They better be careful. They chased off a lot of players for good last time they focused on artifacts, and for good reason.
In other words, no affinity no affinity no affinity no affinity no affinity no affinity no affinity no affinity no affinity no affinity no affinity. None.

Now all they need to do is bring back Kamigawa. ^_^ But really, I loved the Mirrodin set. I thought it was an amazing one, and am very happy they're bringing it back.

*fixed
The only thing that ruined Affinity was the last two words. The golems that had Affinity for Plains/Island/Swamp/Mountain/Forest were well balanced.

Affinity's problem was not having a ceiling. as templated it could make a 8CC card cost 2 or less.
If they simply make it more limited, it'd be good.

If they do not print Platinum in M11 then it will be likely with a new art copy... If it does I would say some kind of spawn since it was never ledgendary

I have not bought product of MtG since Ravnica.
I am excited for this set.
Affinity was only bad with Ravager. Frogmite was a free 2/2, and Myr Enforcer was a free 4/4. The rest of the Affinities were rarely used outside of Mynscoth Golem, Broodstar, and Spire Golem.

Affinity is going to return of course.
But I presume that they are not going to up the ante on the Affinity converts to 8 or greater to keep people from getting ideas with the cards to make an effective deck.
Or meld colors onto the artifacts to fix the previous problems.
Next they aint putting more Artifi Lands after what had happened previously back in 2004 when everything was in full boom.
More equipment are going to be introduced of course giving us greater variety of what we could pack into our EDH decks.
Stoneforge will be more useful with the additional equipment to play with.
Then to fix the problem from the other time in regards to loosen up the static state created from regular artifacts. They are going to tac colors onto them to deter nearly every card being a good first pick in draft making the decision process ever harder to accomplish on a long term.
By the first card that has been spoiled, it has to be an angel obviously. But to deter it from making it into everyone's deck is that it is color coded to W or a combination of colors with W.
I don't know what else to say...wait...I almost forgotten that we could also see a return to Sunburst, and Modular. The Fifth Dawn has passed on the plane, so there has to be at least a few in that set smeared in with a few new mechanics to make the set interesting.
We'll have to see as more cards are spoiled to the general public.

I don't remember there being any problem with nearly every card being a first pick in Mirrodin (and I know neither of us means that literally, I getcha), leading to a fuzzy limited scene. Only permanent cards were colourless, so players still had to commit to colours early. Perhaps not as early or as fastly, but every Limited scene is different, that was Mirrodins and it worked fine.
I do agree that colour will likely play a bigger part. The Fifth Dawn has indeed occured, and the plane has probably adapted to the more even mana balance.
I don't think both Affinity (for artifacts) and artilands are necessarily unlikely to appear. It could be one or the other. They worked in tandem last time to break the format. They've behaved themselves in Extended, and are rotating out this year anyway.
Ultimately, I don't think they're going to make as many major breaks from mirrodin as certain sections of the global rumour mill suggest, otherwise there'd be no point in calling it a Mirrodin set.

I am feeling the final set is going to be a Alara Reborn with all artifacts...
but that is just a forecast and we will find out at the end... GO FOR COLORED ARTIFACTS IN THE BLOCK

Wait. The first set can't go that far yet into the block.
I presume that we are going to see nearly all the nonland permanents as artifacts, since there are going to be at least a few cards that don't mix in too well with the current settings, packed in with the other cards. Then we might even see the first artifact enchantment on the same card to remain true to the block.
Then in the second or third set of the block will be a full artifact set from top to bottom.
That is the plan to keep the interest intact. But in the event they configure the first set in that manner, we could see a lot of problems with maneuvering when it comes to drafts.
Because the speed of the first three months of drafts would all be based on playing things on your turn, followed by using activated abilities on everyone else's turns. Without the instants and sorceries it would feel a bit awkward.

I was meaning that the 3rd of the block will be Colored Artifacts... anyway
I kinda want to see dual artifact lands like they did with man lands so they can keep other ideas of land in storage like they have shown in the Time Block

what
Artifact Lands were a terrible idea. Tezzer breaks them in half in extended, IMO.
He basically turns into what garruk should have been. Only blue.

He can in theory, but does he actually do it successfully? I haven't heard of it happening. He'll be gone from Standard by the time Scars hits, too.
