Default The Official X-Saber Discussion - Thread 5

Welcome to the next edition of the X-Saber Thread!

Here we will discuss upcoming cards, new strategies, combos, etc. Any new ideas are greatly appreciated.

Feel free to post decklists, but please keep them to a minimum or provide a link so as to save thread space.

No flaming, no trash-talking, nothing negative please.

Here is more info on the X-Sabers (members, support, etc.).
For future reference, XX-Saber and X-Saber monsters are considered to be under the same category, so X-Saber support also works for XX-Sabers.

Here are links to our previous threads:

Part 1: http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=726966
Part 3: http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=752349
Part 4: http://www.pojo.biz/board/showthread.php?t=775076
Apparently, Part 2 was skipped.

The main X-Sabers that you should be running are:

Airbellum:
Definitely run 3 of him. He is a staple at 3 in X-Sabers.

Ragigura:
Run 1-2 of him. Running 3 would clog your hands, and having him too early is bad.

Faultroll:
Great card. He makes OTKs possible. Run 2-3 of him.

Fulhelmknight:
Run 2-3. Good card.

Here is some of the support that you should run:

Rescue Cat:
Run it. Clear the opponent’s field, grab 2 Airbellums, pop 2 cards from their hand. Amazing little kitty.

Summoner Monk:
Lets you bring out Rescue Cat and go for the Airbellums easily. Not absolutely necessary, but he really helps.

Giant Rat:
Searches out mostly any monster from the deck. Run 1-3.

Sangan:
Brings almost any monster in your deck out to your hand. Grab Monk or Rescue Cat and explode on your opponent next turn. Not necessary, but he makes a great addition if you have room.

Ryko:
Another beast for Rescue Cat. He also pops cards, throws some X-Sabers into your graveyard for either Ragigura, Fulhelmknight, or GEC. Run 0-2.

And for more ideas, just look at the sample decklists further down.

Standard

The Standard version of the deck utilizes the majority of the X-Sabers and a couple of their support cards. Members like Faultroll, Gardestrike, Airbellum, Fulhelmknight, and Ragigura are commonly used here, and the supporting monsters are often Giant Rat, Sangan, Card Trooper, Rescue Cat, and Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter.

Since the X-Sabers are a Graveyard-oriented theme, the milling effects of Card Trooper and Ryko, Lightsworn Hunter benefit the deck while providing soft field control.

This variant combines both field control and massive swarm while having access to the Infinite Hand Destruction Loop.

It is considered the "balanced" version amongst the three in the scale of explosiveness vs. consistency.

For a sample of what the Standard variant would look like, here's Samusen's build:

A variation from the Standard build, this version focuses less on swarming and looping and more on field control and card advantage. Essentially, it operates very much like the Cat Synchro decks of the March 2009 format, where you make small plays to simplify your opponent's field before exploding when you obtain all of the combo pieces.

As such, the deck focuses more on floaters and tutoring monsters than any other variant right now, with Giant Rat, Gravekeeper's Spy, and Sangan as the main sources of keeping card advantage present. Easy access to Arcanite Magician allows the build to set the field up in their favor, and Pot of Avarice can be used to recycle the non-X-Saber components to keep looping their effects.

It's the most defensive variant of the three, but it's also the most consistent right now.

Here's an example of what the Ratbox / Cat Synchro hybrid could look like:

Another variation from the Standard build, this version takes the opposite direction of the Ratbox / CatSaber version and focuses more on aggressive swarming, revival, and the hand destruction loop.

Since the X-Sabers utilize the Graveyard as their toolbox, the inclusion of a handful of Lightsworn monsters benefits the theme's goals greatly. Lightsworn monsters like Ryko and Lyla allow for field control and deck milling at the same time, which sets the deck up for its swarming and looping combos. Ehren makes a good Side Deck card against the more defensive decks out there.

Charge of the Light Brigade is the key card for searching out the Lightsworn monsters in the deck as well as thinning the deck out. Solar Recharge is an optional choice, but the added draw power and milling do help.

This version is less consistent than the Ratbox / CatSaber version, but more explosive.

If anyone has any suggestions for what I should add to the first post, please tell me. And we still need a sample decklist for Lightsabers/Sabersworn. If anyone has a good decklist for it, please tell me and I shall add it. Thanks.

Now everyone, let's work together and make X-Sabers better!

Spiritual Earth Art - Kurogane

Could this be a good tech copy for X-Sabers since most of them are Earth anyway and could always fetch you a dead Giant Rat in the graveyard or net you an X-Saber if you have an Earth monster out that isn't a X-Saber.

I hope X-Sabers won't get to dangerous and popular because Gottom's Call in people's side decks will screw them over so much/

Not entirely. You could just chain your own GEC to your opponent's GEC.

True but it is kind of like saying chaining Royal Decree to LIM but you won't have it out all the time. I guess it's not as damaging to X-Sabers but it would pose a challenge in Duel 2 & 3.

my bad, i forgot to write the airbellums in, they were hiding when i was looking at my cards .
Here is the decklist w/ the Airbellums, wat am i crazy to put in rescue cat w/o airbellums or targets?
Here is my decklist that is literally da bomb. it has quadruple the wins than losses (4 times win that loss).
3 XX Faultroll (3 is necessary for absolute gottoms combo)
1 Summoner Monk (basic cat)
3 Fulhelmknight (works great w/ the BoM and staller.
3 Airbellum (i forgot to put it in here, they are in my deck)
2 Giant Rats
2 Ragigura (Too much leads to dead-draws)
2 Guardstrike (Too many = dead draws)
1 Morphing Jar
1 Rescue Cat
1 Ryko (beast and milling)
1 Neo Grand Mole
1 Card Trooper (interchangable w/ another x saber)

2 Saber Slash (i'd prefer 3, but need to get another)
1 Brain Control
1 Mind Control
1 One for One (to summon out faultroll quicker)
1 Giant Trunade (return to the hand, discard it all GOTTOMIZE THEM
1 Heavy Storm
1 Lightning Vortex
1 RoTA
2 Book of Moon ( for fulhelmknight and defense)

1 Phoenix Wind Blast
1 Torrential Tribute
1 Call of the Haunted
1 Mirror Force
2 Gottom's E. Call
2 Bottom T. Hole

BTW, the deck is now 41-6, its really 41-7 but i think one of the losses didn't count cuz i wud've won, but i must've been on evry drug to make that dum of a move (setting g. trun and drawing summoner monk!!!!!!)
how do u make a sig??

gorz is good. usually we don't have a backrow, so a LV might completely clear our field and gorz will pwn.

in order to maximize the benefits of this card, you would probably want to use this on your turn which means that you'd have to leave it there for a turn before you can use it ;o and the only way you would benefit (not really since you're using two cards) is by getting rescue cat. otherwise, it's a minus.

however, i could see use for it by tributing a ragigura for something for useful. either way, i don't really like it.
