Going to first Mtg tournament
Up to now, I've just played casually with friends, but now that I'm at college, there's a local tournament place 15 minutes away. Any particular etiquette, rules, or advice I should know?

Just be relaxed, and go in the event with the intent to enjoy it. Be prepared for a very structured event, but something to have fun in.
As for things to know, call the creatures creatures and not monsters, and do not refer to yourself or the other player as a Planeswalker.
And as always do not act like a jack ass.

Obviously.
But thanks for the feedback.

You are allowed and encouraged to shuffle your opponent's deck and/or make sure it has 60 cards in it.
Also, make sure you have your deck at 60 yourself. One time I was at a PTQ, and didn't realize the Jund deck I'd played forever was 59 cards! I had to scramble to find a filler Forest, which was kinda embarrassing.

Deckbuilding wise... expect that your opponent's deck will be slight faster than yours so you have to be ready for anything.
Also, for trading, bring some Standard trade-ables and Extended tradeables. People do sometimes trade with something other than those two.

I went, they were holding drafts, so I entered that. I got wrecked in the matches, but I got some good stuff from the packs including a Silence.
I had a pretty good time overall.

Yeah, Limited is how I started too. It's the most fun, IMO, and you really get to learn what makes a good card good from the veteran players there.
Most Magic players don't mind if newbies pick their brains outside of tournament matches. Did you do so?

A bit. I did catch myself misplaying a lot, but I guess it's better to catch those than let them slip.

Always look at yourself and what you're doing.
Do you think you'll start making a habit of this? We'd love to have you really get in with the community.
