"There's not a witch or wizard. . . "
I've been thinking about this for a long while now. Does anyone remember the rumour "There's not a witch or wizard who went bad that wasn't in Slytherin"?
I think it's a rumour proven false in Peter Pettigrew (this is just speculation, cause I haven't found any hardcore evidence yet. . . yet) From what I can figure Pettigrew was most likely a Gryffindor, and even if he wasn't I'm pretty sure he wasn't Slytherin. Think about it. His 3 best friends in school were all Gryffindors, and Gryffindor and Slytherin students have never gotten along all that well. I find it hard to believe that a Slytherin would just start hanging out with 3 Gryffindors like that. Maybe a Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, but not a Slytherin. I know that it was said in book 3 that Pettigrew always liked to hang around strong people so he could hide behind them (which is true), and granted James and Sirius were both very strong, and so was Remus, but what about the Slytherins of that day? Lucious Malfoy, for instance was probably pretty strong too. So if Pettigrew was a Slytherin, why would he hang out with Gryffindors rather that his own housemates, like Malfoy?
Like I said, I personally think he was most likely a Gryffindor, although why the sorting hat would put him there is beyond me, seeing as he's a cowardand Gryffindor is known for it's courage (sometimes called foolish fearlessness). But anywho, any other thoughts? Or hard evidence from the books to back me up or shut me up?

Yeah, lots of people have speculated about this, I always just assumed that he wasn't a Gryffindor. If he was...then it may be because he ASKED to be in Gryffindor...we know the hat can do that.
...and Hagrid's comment?...well that's probably just a magical sterotyping, lol.

I always assumed Hagrid was just predjudiced against Slytherins. I didn't think he really meant it.

Yep, there are probably just plain old rebels in Slytherin.

No, just the idiots. And even there, Hagrid is still at least tolerent enough to give them the benefit of the doubt.

JK Rowling said herself that James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettegrew were all in Gryffindor. Want proof? Look on the URL I posted in the 'Goofy Ideas - in the future' thread.
Clearly Hagrid was wrong when he said all bad wizards are from Slytherin. He isn't all knowing like Dumbledore or ~sarcasm~ Tralawny. You have your bad wizards outside Slytherin (Wormtail) and your good wizards in Slytherin (Phinaeus Nigelus).

We only found out about Pettigrew and that he turned evil in book 3. Hagrid's comment is in book 1, and at that time no one (except maybe Sirius in book 1's time frame) would have known about Pettigrew's having turned evil or still being alive.

True enough - all of them - I was just putting a thought out there. And the way I look at it, a rumour's a rumour. 99% are false. But like I said, it's just a thought I'd been chewing on for a while.

I KNOW WHY. I THINK SO AT LEAST.
Peter Pettigrew is going to be important in the 6th and 7th books. Why? Remember in book 3, when dumbledore told harry that he wont regret saving pettigrews life? it was a magical bond, in which pettigrew will always been in harry's debt. This hints that Peter will help Harry someway in the future. Peter will someday be brave and help Harry out of a hard situation. That's why I think Dumbledore said that and thus is connected to why Peter was put in gryffindor, because Peter will eventually be brave.
