Sirius is also the name of a star and a lot of times it's known as the "dog star". It has something to do with Greek mythology...
Another coincidence... My dad has all these stickers of motor cycle and sports gear on his tool box in our garage, and one day I noticed that one of them says REMUS sportexhuast, and the logo is a wolf... so I don't know... there are a lot of coincidences...

No coincidence. J.K. Rowling named Sirius after the star Sirius, because it is the brightest star (aside from the sun) seen from Earth and is part of a dog constellation. Remus Lupin is named after Romulas' (Whom Rome was named after)'s twin brother, Remus. They were both raised by wolves, hence his last name and the fact that he's a werewolf.

Betlegeuse? It's one of the biggest, but not the brightest. In fact, it's due to die out any hundred years now (for those who don't know, a hundred or a thousand is a short time in star years)

Sirius and Regulus are twin stars if I'm not mistaken...or else they're just really close to each other in the sky.

Actually, Sirius is in Canis Major (the Great Dog) and Regulus is in Leo (the Lion), two completely separate constellations. As for Betelgeuse, what Village Dag was probably thinking of was Bellatrix (as in Bellatrix Lestrange); both stars are in Orion.

Actually, it may have already died out (in its case, blown up). Being so far away, light takes a long time to reach us, so it will be a long time after it has died out that we see it die out.
Anyway, isn't Remus the name of one of the founders of Rome, who him and his brother were raised by wolves or something? According to Roman legend anyway...so the whole wolf thing may be why Remus Lupin, a werewolf, is named Remus. Lupin also has to do with wolves. The scientific species name for the Gray Wolf is lupus, similar to Lupin.

Another reason for Lupin's name is the word Lupine. Which means (1) characteristics of or resembling wolves and (2) apacious; ravenous.

Absolutely not. Sirius is known as the dog star. That's also where we got the saying the "dog days" of summer - not because it's so hot, but because Sirius is brightest in the Northern Hemisphere at that time.
