Top 8 Blue Bell Crush Card Tourney Report
After going 5-2 at a previous regional, I decided to run a similar deck with a few differences. The main reason I went from 4-0 to 5-2 was due to a poorly constructed side deck. That won’t hurt me this time around. After a few days of testing against the current meta, I finally found a deck and side that consistently wins against it. Once that was all work out, it was time for the tourney.
66 Duelists
7 Rounds
Rd 1 Me vs Bill (Tele-Monarchs)
Duel 1:
Me: 8000 – 6800 – 5600 – 4800
Him: 8000 – 5200 – 2400 – 0
The only damage I took was a few hits from Krebons. Once I got that out of the way, it only took a couple of hits from Caius to end the duel.
Duel 2:
Me: 8000 – 4100 – 4000 – 3000
Him: 8000 – 7200 – 6400 – 5600 – 4800 – 3800 – 3000 – 600 – 0
Early on, I couldn’t get around his Krebons and he constantly paid for it until he synchro summoned Iron Chain Dragon, which was the moment I took control of the game from him. I summoned Caius to removed a 2nd Krebons and Psychokinesis a facedown Mirror Force to take the match.
(1-0)
Rd 2 Me vs Thai (Tele-Dad)
Duel 1:
Me: 8000 – 4000
Him: 8000 – 6900 – 5200 – 0
The only damage I took was my own Solemn Judgment. I took the match on my second turn with DaD and Goyo Guardian.
Duel 2:
Me: 8000 – 5200 – 0
Him: 8000 – 4000
I open with a bad hand and he OTK’s me on his second turn.
Duel 3:
Me: 8000 – 7200 – 6300 – 5500 – 4700
Him: 8000 – 5000 – 3400 – 3100 – 1200 – 700 – 0
I side decked into anti Tele-Dad and shut him down with Royal Oppression.
(2-0)
Rd 3 Me vs William (Little City)
Duel 1:
Me: 8000 – 5900 – 3500 – 1600 – 0
Him: 8000
He completely wrecks me with Honest. He drew into all 3 before the match was over. I never had a chance.
Duel 2:
Me: 8000
Him: 8000 – 6800 – 4900 – 0
I opened with Sangan and Crush Card. I saw he had Oppression and Solemn so I had to find a way around them. I drew MST then Giant Trunade which pretty much allow me to OTK him with Dark Armed and Goyo before Crush Card was over.
Duel 3:
Me: 8000 – 6900 – 5800 – 4700 – 3700 – 1850 – 925
Him: 8000 – 5600 – 4400 – 3200 – 0
I made a major mistake early by allowing him to blow up my facedown GK spy, which caused me to run low on monsters early on. I was helpful that I drew into a lot of monster removal to fend him off until I started drawing into monsters that could help me. Late game, we pretty much had loaded S/T zones, but no monsters. I top decked Dark Armed with exactly 3 darks in the grave. I summoned him and blew up his entire field. Attacked and activate Emergency Teleport for game.
(3-0)
Rd 4 Me vs. Cory (Tele-Dad)
Duel 1:
Me: 8000 – 5200 – 4200
Him: 8000 – 5600 – 3900 – 1000 – 0
I took an early Goyo hit, but fought back and took the match.
Duel 2:
Me: 8000 – 7600 – 6300 – 3150 – 2350 – 0
Him: 8000 – 7900 – 6500 – 3250
I made a major misplay with Emergency Teleport, which caused me the game. I was pretty angry at myself for it.
Duel 3:
Me: 8000 – 7500 – 6700
Him: 8000 – 7400 – 7200 – 4800 – 0
I drew a broken hand + an opening trap dustshoot to get rid of his only live monster. I just set him up a couple turns later for the match.
(4-0)
Rd 5 Me vs Stephen (Tele-Dad)
Duel 1:
Me: 8000 – 7900 – 8500
Him: 8000 – 7200 – 6400 – 6000 – 6600 – 6200 – 4800 – 3800 – 2400 – 0
I drew into an early GK spy (MVP of the Match) and pretty much control the entire duel. Midway, I dropped two Goyo Guardians on the field and stole his Magical Android and Elemental Stratos. A couple of turns later he was scooping.
Duel 2:
Me: 8000
Him: 8000 – 7900 – 3950 – 2450 – 2350 – 1150 – 0
Pretty much similar to Duel 1 except I beat him down with GK spy and guard.
(5-0)
Me and Ciro were the only undefeated duelists left, which pretty much guarantee us a spot in the top 8.
Rd 6 Me vs Ciro (Glad Beast)
Duel 1:
Me: 8000 – 7200 – 3600 – 1200 – 900 – 800 – 200
Him: 8000 – 6600 – 4200 – 2500 – 1200 – 0
This was a back and forth struggle. He Cold Waved, then summoned Gyzarus and attacked me directly, which caused me to drop Gorz from my hand. He tagged out and summoned Heraklinos. I was in major trouble since I had no way around him. He attacked Gorz and ended. I top decked Caius and tribute the token and removed his Heraklinos from the game. Late game, he gained back control due to Waboku. I had DaD in my hand, but only 2 darks. I attacked his stratos with Gk Spy, which allowed me to drop DaD and blow up his field. He had no choice, but to blow up my Dark Armed with Murmillo, which left him defenseless. Next turn, I switch my 2nd Spy into attack mode and summoned Psychic Commander and attacked for game.
Duel 2:
Me: 8000 – 4000 – 3900 – 2000 – 1200
Him: 8000 – 7900 – 3450 – 1050 – 0
I sided in a lot of monster removal to deal with his Gladiator Beasts, which turned out to be a major reason I won. Pretty much similar to duel 1. He was forced to destroy my Caius with Murmillo, which left him in trouble as he took hits from my Spy and Sangan for the match.
(6-0)
Rd 7 Me vs Eric (Tele-DaD/Burn)
Since I was guaranteed the top spot in the top8, I decided to scoop to my friend in the final round. We played it out anyway.
Duel 1:
Me: 8000 – 6900 – 6600
Him: 8000 – 4000 – 3700 – 2600 – 2000 – 4400 – 0
He drew a bad opening hand for the burn side of the deck and I pretty much ended it in a few turns.
Duel 2:
Me: 8000 – 6800 – 5800 – 0
Him: 8000 – 4000 – 2800 – 1400
I made a mistake by using Psychokinesis on a facedown S/T instead of his Wave-Motion Cannon. I made the assumption that I would draw into some kind of S/T removal before the cannon could kill me. I was wrong and that was game.
Duel 3:
Me: 8000
Him: 8000 – 7000 – 0
I drew into a decent opening hand and pretty much shut him down from the beginning. He tried to gain back control by summoning Colossal fighter, but bottomless trap hole ended that. One turn later he was scooping.
6-1 (Really 7-0)
Top 8:
1. Me (TeleDad Variant) 6-1
2. Ciro (Glad Beast) 6-1
3. Eric (Burn/TeleDaD) 6-1
4. Shawn Brown (AntiMetaZombies) 6-1
5. Roy (TeleDad) 6-1
6. Tom Mak (TeleDad) 5-2
7. Stephen (TeleDad) 5-2
8. Cory (TeleDad) 5-2
Top 8 Match Me vs Cory (TeleDad)
Duel 1:
Me: 8000 – 5000 – 4800 – 1200
Him: 8000 – 9400 – 8200 – 7200 – 4800 – 2400 – 1200 – 0
It was basically a back and forth struggle throughout the duel. In the middle of the game, I took out his Thought Ruler with Caius and gain control of the duel. Late game, he was low on monsters, which allow me to attack him for game with Krebons.
Duel 2:
Me: 8000 – 7000 – 4600 – 2300 – 800 – 400 – 0
Him: 8000 – 7000 – 4600 – 2200 – 1200
Basically the same thing as Duel 1, but in his favor.
Duel 3:
Me: 8000 – 6300 – 5900 – 4900 – 2450 – 0
Him: 8000 – 7900 – 6500
I made a major error in not side decking into my anti TeleDad side deck. He was the only person who knew what my side deck was so he was prepare for my tricks. So I decided to stick with my original deck and it cost me big time. Anyway, I started off with a decent hand, but once he dropped Gorz, I knew I was pretty much done. He pretty much controlled the duel from the moment he drop Gorz since I drew no monsters after psychic commander and Strike Ninja. There wasn’t much I could do. I drew back to back Dark Arms with 1 dark in my grave, which caused me to scoop it up.
Final Record: 6-2 (Really 7-1)
I was pretty upset since I didn’t side deck and it cost me. Oh well, I still won a box of CSOC even though I wanted to get one of the top 4 prizes more.
Props:
GraveKeeper's Spy (I definitely need Supers now)
Azn Carnage (Always a cool bunch)
Judge Paul
Slops:
Myself for not side decking in the top 8 match.
Having to play a friend in the top 8 match
CSOC Box (Pulled Crap)
Anyway, thanks for taking the time to check out my report.

Cool report. Do you think you would have won the final game in the top 8 if you had side decked?? Either way your deck sounds great.

I don't see how GK Spy is remotely good this format.

Gives me a constant +1 and a good early defense against TeleDad. But it's more about how it interacts with my side then the main deck.

I don't doubt that claim since you can OTK a person very easily nowadays. I did it multiple times with a deck that didn't even utilize DDraws or Malicious. Also, I ran 2 Caius since the Spies provided the tribute fodder without losing advantage.
