European Championship venue announced for 2009.
UPDATE: This thread was necrobumped, so the information may not be accurate anymore as the announcement was made before Konami took over in Europe.

Lille has been chosen to host the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game European Championships
AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands (December 2008)
The Grand Palais in Lille, France has been chosen to host the 2009 Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game European Championship taking place over the weekend of June 27th and 28th.
This is the fourth annual European Championship organised by Upper Deck International in association with Konami – previous events having been held in Berlin Germany, Turin Italy, and Amsterdam in The Netherlands.
Situated in the centre of Lille, the Grand Palais’ well lit and open spaces will provide the perfect setting for the highest caliber of Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card dueling.
This is the first time a French city will be hosting this prestigious event. Situated in the heart of North-west Europe, Lille is a perfect location due to its excellent transport links, its proximity to many major European cities.
The Road to Lille commences with Local and Grand Qualifiers taking place between January and March. Approximately 50,000 duelists will be attempting to win through to their country’s National Championships which take place in April and May. There 5,000 duelists across Europe will be dueling for an invitation to compete in Lille where they will have the chance to become European Champion and represent Europe at the Worlds.
Running at the same time, The Dragon Duel European Championship will also take place, exclusively for competitors aged 12 and under. Winners from Local and Grand Qualifying Dragon Duels will move forward to the Dragon Duel National Championships and winners will then be invited to compete in Lille.
As well as these two main events, in Lille, there will be a series of side tournaments and special events for everyone to enjoy. More details about these exciting events will be announced in due course.
According to Upper Deck International Organized Play Manager, Carl Crook: “We are very excited to be holding the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game European Championship in the Grand Palais in Lille. This will be a great venue for the biggest European Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game event in 2009.”
The Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME is manufactured by Konami, and is distributed worldwide (with the exception of Asia) by Upper Deck.

UDI still organizes the European Championship, like any European, Australian, or Latin American event.
There's no reason not to trust PJ's info. In fact, I remember this was (mistakenly?) announce as the site for Worlds, which we now know will be in Japan.

Lille? Nice. Close to UK, Benelux, and Germany. Bit of a trip for the Italians, though.

Now we need to hear something from Konami regarding there OP in Canada and the US, cause the worlds would just suck brass monkeys balls if we weren't there.

They'd travel regardless. Also, it's pretty much the same distance from Rome to Lille (1,609km) as it was from Rome to Amsterdam (1,666km) and there were plenty of Italians at last year's event

While it's technically 'Old News' I still think it has a place here for at least a day or so, just to show that Yu-Gi-Oh! still has a competitive slant in some areas. Hopefully Konami will announce something for US Nationals soon.

You'll have to ask France's OP representatives about that, or search for documentation on your Nationals.
Ireland, one of UDI's smaller areas, has invites for the Top 16.
It's Top 32 in the United Kingdom.
Winner of each National Championship will recieve an SJC Prize Card (for the Fortune Tours it was Crush Card Virus).

All we know is that it'll be in Japan. I can't rememeber if there was an official press release stating this or if a Konami representative posted it online though.
