why do we keep playing?
i stopped playing this game before because of the whole yata thing, and i returned to it.there are so many problems in ygo that it makes me sick.and now that i've returned, it doesnt look like much has changed. DaD, The Dark Emperor SD, and now the gold series, have all been huge let-downs.and honestly, i dont think its worth it anymore.the money, the practice, our time, it's just not worth it.and yet, i still want to plsce in a tourny with my very unbroken, classic Red-eyes deck.but why?why do u still play?

People still play because they can afford to, or they don't go to sanctioned events and play in locals, or just don't care and run gadgets or something. The protector gadget deck at colombus is an inexpensive way to stop the meta. Just look for ways to stop the meta if you can't afford to be the meta.

This game can actually still be fun if you play under your own banlist instead of the official one.

For the thrill of the fight, that sweet feeling you get when you know that the card you just drew, has given you game, the smell of new cards, and the friends you make while you learn this game.
Winning packs at local tourney is cool ,and trying to make a deck that will actually win at a SJC,keeps me playing.
Just my opinion......

Because I freakin' want to? Because deep down inside you can't let Yugimonz go? Why the hell did you come back after quitting? Maybe because you need your daily dose of Yugitussin? Maybe it's the thrill you get when you pull awesome cards when you buy packs? Maybe because you have the money to support your Yugijuana? BTW these are all general questions and is in no way directed to anybody.

People still play because they want to or they feel like they have to for some reason or another. Everyone has the choice to quit things they don't like, and I don't see so many people jumping on that bandwagon of quitting. I guess they are still attached to Yugioh regardless of how ridiculous the format might be. I am still playing in it. All Hobbies cost consumers money, and UDE is doing what it needs to do to keep raking in the money.
As long as people keep buying the stuff, they will keep producing it. That type of mentality has been going on for a while now. In addition, people keep complaining about the game and so forth, yet they still play. Why? I have not a clue. If you don't like something, I would think that you would be smart enough to get out a situation you don't like and find something better to do with your time and money, and other investments you put into Yugioh. They keep buying product from UDE, which tells UDE absolutely nothing regarding the metagame. If you wanted something to change then you should get out and quit, and bring the whole Yugioh community with you. That obviously won't be happening because UDE provides solid Sanctioned Tournament play.
As far as the Monarch SD, Gold Series, and Dark Armed Dragon are concerned, I think it's ingenious marketing. People will continue to buy until they get what they want to get out of the set. It gets hyped without knowing all the details about it, people pre order from eBay or their Hobby Stores, and then they find out about what exactly is in it, and then they are disappointed, yet when it happens again and again, people keep doing it.
Phantom Darkness as a set, I was really happy with overall. It's probably the best released to date. For people like me who like to capitalize on the secondary market, you can easily do it with this set. The foils are all pretty decent... Allure, Cyber Valley, and the Secrets. There's more than enough for people to be satisfied about, and I like it.
The Monarch deck is disappointing, but there are cards in there that will make it sell, which is what UDE wanted. They didn't want to put a lot of the good cards in there so previous sets won't sell as well. Caius, DDR, and some of the other stuff in there is more than enough to see the deck go flying off of the shelves. People can now have their common D.D. Warrior as well. It's a win for UDE.
Gold Series had amazing marketing behind it as well. Telling the community 5 big key cards in the set was more than enough to see it become sold out, and some Hobby stores couldn't get any in because it was so sought after. Now that we have the full spoiler that's in there, the only really good cards are Gold. And at $20 a pack roughly, it's making UDE lots of money since a lot of people had to pre order to make sure that actually got the product. I am not that disappointed with it because there are some expensive cards in there that make it worth it like Prometheus, DMoC, CCV, Mirror Force, Grandmaster, and Jinzo to name the key ones out of there.
Overall, I find that people play because they want to or they can and don't care. Yugioh has one of the broadest player bases for a card game. I'd be playing another game if it wasn't for the fact that there are so many more Yugioh players out there than pretty much every other card game.

I ask myself the same question over and over...
My answer: Yugioh IS my life(Yes, I have hardly no life) and if I give it up, I might as well commit suicide, which has been an option. xD

Just because it's DAD dominated early on doesn't mean it will always be. LODT promises Lightlords, and assuming most of the cards from that set needed to run Lightlords won't be secret rare like DAD, Lightlords show promise in competing against DAD.
And why is it that every post has someone who brags about having a DAD? I preordered ten boxes of PTDN before it came out and I was extremely lucky in pulling ten DADs, so there's really no use in bragging.
Seriously, the banlist isn't all that bad. The format will change once LODT comes out.

I play because I do not feel forced into playing the "Top Decks". Sure I play against some Six Samurai and some Dark Armed Dragons, but I don't let the fact they're overpowered get to me, as long as i'm playing differently from what the norm appears to be then I am happy playing.
Players of the game are clouded that you either got to play the top decks or not at all. That you have to have cash or you don't get the decent decks. Well that is not true, there are plenty of great decks out there that have been completely forgotten or put aside for the new titans. There are dozens of deck types and combinations and styles of play that you only hear so little of and thats usually about how bad they are compared to those top decks. Thats the reason I play.
I play because the I play what interests me and make the game fun for me, and to me thats playing decks that don't see much play and experimenting with a wide variety of decks and i'm not sticking to the same old deck everyone DAD user is playing until it's more of a chore than a hobby.
I know it seems rather sinacle but if people are quitting because they feel they can't play or are bored of the same old decks being played then they aren't getting the point of this game. :P

Lightlords promise nothing. Just like how we thought DAD was going to be a RARE, it became a Secret. I expect Judgement Dragoon to be a Secret Rare in there and I expect it to hit near Dark Armed Dragon value if Lightlords gets enough support.

We play because this game is really just a form of gambling with a little more skill but with far less payout. I mean really, almost anyone can be good at this game.
