Default Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: The videogame

Since there isn't any mult-platform thread, I figured this was the best place to put it.

Quite frankly, I am not having fun with this game. Not to long ago, I was getting my ass whupped by bunch of frickin FAIRIES! I actually had to check out gamefaqs to figure out how to beat them. (glacius spells). But that's just me venting.

Other problems with this game:

The flight controls are HORRIBLE. Rarely do you ever do what you actually wanted to do. In the owl race mini-game, I was going everywhere EXCEPT through the rings. I'm just glad it's a mini-game, and not something required to proceed.

The graphics are weird. Sometimes, especially the character models and dungeon scenes, things look great. As soon as you step outside to the hogwarts grounds however, you find yourself in a game that looks 5 years older than it actually is.

The puzzles are pathetic. All you have to do is look around to figure out what needs to go where. And if you forget something, the other two people you aren't currently controlling will bug you incessantly until you do it. As in, every five seconds. In really high-pitched, annoying voices. "Harry, don't you really think you should go (insert place name here)?" "Hermione, shouldn't we be going to (insert place name here)" "Ron, if you don't hurry up, we'll be late for (insert class name here)!" Frankly, they can all bugger off.

The enemies are pathetic and cheap. It's always the same, no matter which enemy you are facing. If it flies, it just tackles you into the ground every chance it gets. If it walks, it tackles you into the ground everychance it gets. If it attacks with projectiles, it shoots at you every chance it gets. No stratgey whatsoever, and your "friends" are usually buging you on how to kill them as well.

The game is just not very fun (at least or me). The entire game is a fetch quest inside a fetch quest. You are always looking for some random potion ingredient, or even worse, your way around the place.

Loading screens. Lots of loading screens. Far too many loading screens. Very LONG, MUSICLESS, loading scenes that always comprise of a picture of some half-way important location a the time. I could have SWORN we had finally gotten rid of loading screens as long, often, and boring as these back in the NINETIES!

The game is extremly forgiving. If you die, you simply reenter the room with full health. Saving is ONLY for when you need to actually quit the game for a while.

This game has NO resemblance to either the book OR the movie. Since when does Malfoy push Harry into the dungeons while disguised as Ron with a Polymorph potion? The Glacius is mentioned NOWHERE in ANY book. Since when does Harry enter the trunk with the bogart, only to enter a room with a bogart-dementor, LOTS of grappling points, and several blocks that need to be moved into their switches? Since when do the Harry Potter gang get their butts kicked by bunch of fairies? There was no giant knight thing with shields that became demons when you grabbed them off it, or a giant kettle thing that shot cannon balls out of it's chest. Certainly not that I remember anyway.

Things that are OK about the game:

The boss fights are surprisingly fun at times, and the cutscenes that inroduce them can be rather humerous.

The red caps projectile fart at you. Really quite funny.

Considering how most of you ARE die hard Harry potter fans, you probably won't care about my lowly opinions. All I ask is that you waste 6 bucks renting it at blackbuster, instead of 50 buying it from somewhere. You'll thank me for this advice later.

Sounds just like the first Harry Potter game to me. That game let me down . The only Potter game I'll get now will probably be Quidditch World Cup.

Yeah you've basically said all I was thinking. I mean the games ARE about quests. I knew that coming into it because that's what the second game was all about. The loading screens were definitely annoying and once again finding all the cards was almost impossible. While the raphics were better, the controls were even worse, which I didn't think was possible. The viewing capability...or lack thereof....was what really got to me. You couldn't look at anything! You'd have to target if there was somehting there you could target, or else turn in that direction! You couldn't look up or down or over. Horrible.

I liked the quests and how certain characters could do certain things, and some of the levels were good like the one with the different staircases that you'd have to lower using the characters one at a time. The statue quest was pretty cool too.

What I really hated was that it was SO FRIKKIN HARD to shoot at stuff for beans. Instead of shooting at a statue and it heading straight for the target, you'd have to get it just right and you could only get one bean at a time! To get beans in this game, you'de have to get Ron to check every stupid little bookshelf. That was irritating beyond description. Plus, the other two were always in the way since they had to follow you. Sometimes you'de get stuck if you were in a corner and you'de have to switch just to get out.

This game would have been ok if the controls weren't such a disaster.

There is a GBA version to the movie and it is an RPG. I heard it was supposed to be pretty good.
