Default Ask WOTC

Wizards of the Coast is doing a cool weekly thing with us.

"Wizards invites you to submit three questions regarding any aspect of Dreamblade you or your readers are interested in: game design, tournaments, rules, marketing, product schedules, etc. Feel free to ask questions about information that has not otherwise been made publicly available yet. Your questions will be routed to the most qualified internal stakeholders from R&D, Marketing, OP, etc. for reply, these replies will be disseminated back to you the following week.

The dates for this fortnight's press pool are: Questions Due: 10AM EST, Thursday, Nov. 2 Replies Sent Back to You: 10AM EST, Thursday, Nov. 9"

The first week's deadling is Thursday Night. Then next week, they'll answer the 3 questions we pose. If you have good ideas for questions, put them here, and we'll pick 3 to ask them, and we'll post their answers on the main site.

Groovy.

Q: Can you gives us any clues on how each of the Aspects will evolve capability-wise over time?

Q: Will there ever be more than four Aspects, mixed Aspects, or Aspectless (sort of like colorless in Magic) pieces?

Q. (When) will there be contests for players to design figures, such as in MTG?

Q. Do your R&D guys pay any attention to discussions on message boards for new ideas or concerns (other than this thread right here)?

Q. Will there be a series of books, such as what MTG has?

Q Can we pretty please with sugar and whipped cream and a cherry on top have some good Lost figures come out in the next set or two so we can do some truly evil things with Faceless King?

Q: i second the 'will we be able to design minis thread'

Q: did you create warcharm so powerful for a reason? such as, did you create it knowing it would become obsolete in a few sets? or did it just happen to become super-powerful, and the testers didnt relize it(?).or were you trying to make a 'black lotus' for Dreamblade?

Q: will their be more dream-like minis released? too some, allot of the minis (so far) seem gruesome and/or very d&d like. such as, can we expect more 'futeristic' looking minis in the future(?)

Q: how long do you expect this game to last- are you planning on makeing it the M:tg of minis(?)

Q: are thier any plans in the future to be selling Dreamblade at places other than gaming and hobby providers, such as walmart/target/ebgames/other more widely-accessible places, as you have done with M:tg(?)
more people would be able to play, after all....

Cool, I picked one question from each of you, and emailed them in. We'll see what happens.

In the meantime, feel free to ask more questions if you think of them. ;-)

Q. You guys hiring?

Q. Other than the prize-tournies, are there going to be any more promotional events to get the word out about this game?

Q. Are there any plans to expand the number of places with edge tournaments and 1Ks? (I live in a town where all the hobby shops appear to have shut down, so this is REALLY important to me)

Yeah, I can't say I've really seen Pojo-sama actually PARTICIPATE in a discussion about games. Possibly Pokemon since that is what pojo was originally all about and I would be surprised if he doesn't still pay attention to that, but unless I'm highly mistaken... I've really only seen him when he posts something akin to this, or in the help board.

He's running one of the largest gaming communities (quite possibly THE largest) on the net. He has better things to do than whine about how cookie-cutter Cyber Dragon is ruining Yugioh or debate the quality of the new MTG set, Time Spiral.

Well, lets see... been posting since January of 04, that's, um -- 34 months and counting. That translates to roughly 1034 days, which works out to a little over four posts a day. Not exactly lighting up the boards, now is he? Especially when you consider all the admn stuff he has to take care of, like the help boards, and posts like this one on like 20 different forums.

Default Reactions to the answers

1. Hardly an unexpected response, but still heartening to hear. So long Wizards keeps supporting it with these big cash tournies, people will play it.

2. I've read the stuff they have on the site, and frankly, it's not much better than a lot of fanfiction I've read. It's ok... but they could do much, much better. There are some good writers that have worked on stuff based on videogames and stuff, so it shouldn't be too hard to get someone willing to write it. It isn't like there is much in the way of expectations for this sort of stuff, but it would be nice if someone put some honest to god effort into it and had the books go through a full editing process.

3. Yay! Always fun, always fun.

4. Looks like it's still the net for me -_-

5. Would have been nice if there were some aspectless or mixed aspect pieces, but that would make things rather difficult. I can understand why they'd want to keep things simple for the first few years, but one can hope that we'll get some really nifty stuff later on, after this game has fully matured.

6. Well, there go the hopes of many people hoping to see a figure of... eh, any supermodel or starlet of note in a bikini or lingerie. Ah well.

Q. Are there any themes we've seen that will be carried on in future sets (The Gambit line, and the Zungars and Spikers come to mind)?

Q. There were several abilities in the rule book (Channel, Bolster, Drain, Heroics, etc.) that were not in the base set or in Baxar's War. Will we be seeing those any time soon, or were they scrapped?

Q. Will we have more starter sets that include new figures, instead of just the base set figures?

Q: will new lineages be introduced as time goes on?

Q: how soon until we see 'multi-aspect'ed minis?

Q. Could you just walk us through the process of creating a figure? What comes first usually, the art, the ability, or the flavor text, or does it all depend on a case by case basis? Any examples you would care to share?

Q. Is there a favorite source of inspiration for creating figures, or do you guys just sit back and let the creative juices flow with the Mountain Dew and nacho cheese sauce (Or whatever else have you)?

Q. Is every set going to be based on some sort of conflict between lineages, or are you going to pick different themes (like... an underwater, or specific cultures) like you do in Magic: The Gathering?

Q. Is there a creature you would call the "mascot" of Dreamblade, like Pikachu for Pokemon, Dark Magician/Kuriboh for Yugioh, and Orgg or Serra Angel of Magic?

Q. Can we PLEEEEAAAASE have a set like Unhinged/Unglued for Dreamblade?

as much as i would like this, its a tournament game- and unlike magic, its an EXPENSIVE game to buy boosters you cant use in tourneys :-/

Q: anyplans for themed starters later on? like, with one or two chase-rares(reaper/dhc/scarab) in each, and two/three uncommons, the rest commons? like a magic starter, themed and all

I know they aren't tourney legal in MTG, but I would love to have a 0 Power creature with Blade: Your opponent must give you a dollar.

Because I am poor.

Here are the 3 questions i picked for this week. (Round 2)

Q. Are there any plans to expand the number of places with edge tournaments and 1Ks? (I live in a town where all the hobby shops appear to have shut down, so this is REALLY important to me)

Q: Will there be any other types introduced beyond creatures and locations?

Q: any plans for selling maps/dice separate from the starter set(s)

I'm guessing we'll get our answers next week.
--------

you did see the answers from Round 1 of this, right?
