Default Can Instants and Abilities be activated during combat?

I'm used to Magic the Gathering, where instants and activated abilities can be played with damage on the stack. Can the same be done in the WoW TCG? (I'll be disappointed if it can't, but I can live with it.)

To clarify, this is how the combat step works

You declare your attack on target hero or ally.
After you declare, there is a prioirty window to add stuff to the chain
Your opponent can declare a protector.
If your opponent declares a protector, another priority window opens to play abilities.
Then the attacker (and protector if one is used) exhaust and damage is dealt.
After damage is dealt, another priority window to play ablilites

That's techically how combat works (I think, someone can fix that if it's wrong). Just remember, if you have an ablitiy that can stop the attack, you must do it before the attacker exhaust. If you wait until after he exhaust, damage is already dealt. (of course, if you opponent moves too fast and just exhaust their attacker when attacking, you can be like "hold up their speedy, I am stoping that attack by frostbolting him)

Much of this game has been built similar to Magic, in both classes and factions (color), and also stuff like quests (land).

The above post does explain it, but heres an example.

You declare and attack with Leeroy Jenkins.
You select my hero (Ta'zo) as the target.
I dont choose to use a protecter.
I use priority to activate Frost Nova.
You play nothing in response.

The chain works backwards....

Frost Nova activates dealing 1 damage to each of your allies, and your hero.
Frost Nova destroys Leeroy Jenkins.
The combat is cancelled as the attacker has been removed from the field.
