Default Hydrogeddon Vs Tokens

This maybe a simple question but I did not know the answer when I was asked and I wanted to make to get the correct answer.

If a hydrogeddon attack a scapegoat/ojama/any token and destroys it does his effect activate? Another player brought up the fact that went a token is destroyed it is removed from play, but does it go to the graveyard first?

Hydro has to send something to the gravegard as a result of battle. tokens (sheep, lamb, etc.) are just simply removed from the field and never touch the graveyard. So you don't get hydro's effect.

Tokens never touch the graveyard, they cannot exist anywhere but the field.

So Hydrogeddon's effect does not activate.

Actually it's not; it's removed from the field. This is important because some cards base their ATK Values / Effects on the amount of cards that are removed from play, and Tokens don't count.

When tokens are destroyed, they just fade into the ether...:)
