Favorite HP Book.
Which is your favorite HP book? I like the The Chamber of Secrets the most. It was the most suspenseful one.

Chamber of Secrets. The suspense of it was what made it for me.

I think they're all neat in their own way. They all have plenty of suspense and mystery - with the obligatory red herrings such as the idea that Snape was the one trying to steal the Philosopher's Stone.

I really like the story line The Goblet of Fire. The worst was the Chamber of Secrets. It was so boring that I wanted to fall over and die. I also liked Prisoner of Azkaban.

I love them all but my favorite is the PoA, because I just really liked the whole atmoshphere and thought it was so interesting, what with Lupin (my favorite character) showing up, the Dementors, the Quidditch matches, etc. etc.
It was also the last book in the series that didn't have a major death, so that's another reason why I like the PoA best.

Chamber of Secrets was great because it was so suspenseful and mysterious.
I loved the darker mood of Prisoner of Azkaban, though. That and Order of the Phoenix.

Prisoner of Azkaban used to be my favourite, but now it's Goblet of Fire. I still find Goblet of Fire exciting and fun to read after x number of times, whereas with Prisoner of Azkaban.. well it's a good book but I didn't like it as much the more times I read it. I find Goblet of Fire has more going on story-wise.
Maybe it's because I watched the movies before I read the two books, but I thought Chamber of Secrets was the.. least fun to read. I guess the suspence was lost on me, again, since I'd already seen the movie.

I really enjoyed the darker moods in Prisoner of Azkaban and Order of the Phoenix. I loved the contrasts in both, at one moment it would be hilarious, and the next I would be nearly in tears.

Ay, I agree. PoA was my favorite for a while, but I am really growing to like Chamber of Secrets (my original least favorite, oddly enough). I still like PoA, but now my favorites are Order of the Pheonix, followed by Chamber of Secrets. The comes PoA.
Honsetly, though, OoP only had suspense for me because of all the hype that someone was going to die. =\

Go, Prizoner of Azkaban!
#3, by far. As far as I'm concerned it's the cornerstone that ties the entire series together.
Look at it this way. . . yeah, #'s 1 and 2 there's Voldy, and the struggles and stuff, but other than that, they're all about Harry discovering he's a wizard and getting to know himself, the wizarding world, and his friends. In the grand shceme of things, it's setting the scene for the rest of the series (which just goes to show how intricate and detailed the series is, considering it takes 2 books to set the scene, but that's another thing entirely). Books 4 and up continue the story in the present with Voldy returning to power and the restart of the war. Book three ties them together by finishing the main bulk of background info (James Potter's history with the other three and Snape, the betrayal that led to the whole Harry being the boy who lived. . . and all that jazz.) and then it goes into what is happening now, with Voldy's followers still out there, and right under Harry's nose, and trying to get back to him, and so on and so forth. It shows wormtail escaping and reuniting with his master, and foreshadows the future plans. In books 1 and 2, Harry faces Voldy, and you think that's it, there really isn't anything leading up to another confrontation until book 3. I mean, yeah, by the end of book 2, you figure out that it's not that easy to get rid of Voldy, but still, it is just his memory that is defeated, and you're still kinda left wondering what happened to him at the end of book 1, and whether he's really gone.
Book 3 also introduces a whole plethera (sp?) of new characters that later become key players throughout the series. Wormtail, Lupin, Sirius, Crookshanks (yeah, I know he doesn't seem like a whole lot now, but something tells me there's just something about that cat that's out of the ordinary, even for the wizarding world). You also find out more history about some of the other characters, especially Snape and why he hates Harry so much.
Also, book three explains why Harry wound up with the Dursley's. Yeah, they're his only family, but haven't you ever wondered that if his parents were so smart and loved him so much, why they wouldn't have chosen someone to be his legal guardian if anything happened. Especially with the dangers of the time and knowing that there was a good chance they wouldn't make it? You would think that they wouldn't choose to leave him with a family that refuses to even acknowledge they exist.
I also have to admit, that Sirius Black was instantly one of my two fave characters in the series, as soon as I "met" him so to speak. I just loved him, don't ask me why, I just did. And I've also had this interest in Snape. He intrigues me, not exactly evil, but definitely with something against Harry, that he's willing even to overlook to save Harry's life. Not friend, but not quite enemy either. And I think in the end he and Harry will resolve their differences and actually learn to like each other. Snape will let go of his 20 year old grudge, and you can tell Harry's already beginning to understand why Snape is the way he is in book five, but once again, that's off topic a little bit. I just can't get enough of Snape and the history building around him in book 3 only intrigued me further.
All in all, Book 3 just finishes filling in gaps and background information and leads into the current happenings of Voldy's return to power so neatly, and will always remain one of my favourite (if not my absolute favourite) Harry Potter Book.
edit: Don't get me wrong I love the entire series, every single book, and every single detail, but I think that without book 3 to hold it all together, the series wouldn't be a series, they would be individual books. Well, no, 4 and up would be a series with no real beginning (that's where 3 would come in), but 1 and 2 would be out there on their own. A person could read books 1,2,and even 3 completely out of order, on their own and still understand most of what's going on. But without book 3 books 4 and up would make very little sense. But anywhays, I feel like I'm only digging my own grave here, so I'm gonna shut up. LOL

So far I have read the first four. Out of them I would say PoA is my favorite one. I liked GoF too, but there were some points that I just got tired of reading.

i would have to say prisoner of azkaban, it introduces my two favorite characters (lupin & sirius). but i also love order of the phoenix because of the hard time harry got and the determination and strength of character he shows in not recanting his account of voldy's return. strangly i hate it because sirius dies (but i dont think he is really dead anyway)
