Default Cascoon problems. Help!

Here's the dilemma:

My 1st Wurmple evolved into a Cascoon, & it's now a Dustox. But that's not the point. The point is that I'm trying to get a Silcoon (by evolving), and EVERY TIME I evolve a new Wurmple, it evolves into another Cascoon! Now, in my R/S guidebook, it says that the evolving of Wurmple turning into a Silcoon or Cascoon is entirely random, but I'm starting to doubt that, because I'm currently training my SIXTH Wurmple (I save before I catch a new one, so I can jjust restart the game w/o wasting $ for poke balls). Is there any method of getting a Silcoon without catching it? Or am I just unlucky?

Thanks in advance

As far as I know it is random. I've seen some posters post that it depends on something but it has never been substantiated.

The good news is that both Cascoon and Silcoon are found in the wild of Petalburg woods. It could require patience to actually run into one but may end up being less time than trying to keep evolving wurmples. Your choice.

Got Poke Balls?

I read somewhere that to get the different evolutions you needed to get them in different places, eg from petalburg woods would give you one of them, from outside the woods the other.

But as SA said you can catch both of them in petalburg woods.

From experience, I've seen that male Wurmple tend to evolve into Dustox, and female follow the Beautifly evolution line. But seeing as this is different for everyone, it's probably pure coincidence.

Both cocoon Pokémon are available wild in the Petalburg Woods. It doesn't take very long to find time, usually, so you should be alright just searching for them.

Does the game make an actual distinction between day and night though? I know the clock does, but I didn't know it effects the Pokémon appearances... I thought that was limited to G/S/C.

The game knows when it's night and when it's day, but that doesn't effect when pokemon appear in the wild. Like in g/s/c eevee only evolves into umbreon at night, and espeon during the day. I thought it was the same for wurmple but I don't know.

I think it's the tide; wait six hours and try again. If it doesn't work I don't know.
