Question Effort Values - FFS HELP ME...please

Ok, I desperatly need to understand EV's. I keep trying to find out about them and I just don't get it. So if someone here who really knows their stuff well (Absolatemyhomework), could they explain it all very indepth to me cos' I am a frekin' imbecile It'd be much appreciated.

I think I understand that EV's boost your stats but I don't know how they opperate or how you get them or what you have to do for them to take effect. Say I had a LV54 Milotic and I wanted to boost its Special attack with EV training - how the hell would I do that? Or I wanted to boost my Dusclops Special defense - how would that work?

Please, please, please, please help me with this.

first of all MAAMH is now just absol, so everyone is happy about that.

read the help thread!!!

certain pokes boost certain stats one EP. 4 EPs =1 effort level. effort levels boost certain stats by 1. get enough EL and youll get huge stats in that level. EPs can be maxed at 255 i think... u can max 2 stats out. once youve maxed out your stats, u cant get anymore. refer to the HELP THREAD to find training spots and related info

ok this is a very simplified version. The more that your pokemon battles the more Effort Values, or EVs, the pokemon gains. You gain EVs by defeating an opposing pokemon, the EVs are a hidden value in the game and the only way to tell if you have maxed them out is to get the effort ribbon.

4 EVs equals one extra stat point in the stat that the EV affects. Different pokemon give different stat EVs when they are defeated, such as Whismur gives you +1 HP EV whilst Tentacool gives you +1 Sp. defense EV.

Each pokemon has an EV point cap of 510 EVs spread out over all the stats. The maximum EVs that one stat can have is 255, but since that is not a multiple of four the last 3 EVs would be a waste on that stat as the maximum number that EVs can boost one stat is 63. So generally peoples EV distribution is 252 in one stat, 252 in another stat and 6 in the last. There are six in the last because two EVs doesn't boost anything so on a pokemon that is fully EV trained there will be two EVs that are wasted.

There are a number of ways to boost the amount of EVs that you get. For instance if you feed a pokemon a Poke Vitamin it will get 10 EV points in the stat that it affects. For example, Zinc boosts Special defense and it will give your pokemon 10 special defense EVs. You can only boost one stat by 100 EVs or 10 vitamins

The macho Brace is also useful as it boosts the amount of EVs that you gain from battle by two. So instead of getting one HP EV from defeating Whismur you would get two.

Pokerus also boosts the amount of EVs that you get form battle by two, however, this is very rare so it is unlikely that you will have it.

To boost your Milotic's special attack EVs you would need to go to route 113 and defeat 252 Spinda or 126 spinda with the macho brace, or if you use pokemon vitamins you would need to beat 152 spinda or 76 with the macho brace.

To boost your Duskull's special Defense you would need to go to the abandoned ship and find the small pool of water. There you would need to defeat the tentacool (+1 Sp. Defense) or Tentacruel (+2 Special Defense)

and remember that EVERY pokemon gives EVs... the ones Sturgy suggested are because they are common in that area...

you have to be careful about which pokemon you battle as they could mess up the EVs of your pokemon...
