I have a Direct Attack deck that uses Raging Flame Sprite and Inaba White Rabbit. I use Gravity Bind and Level Area B. They only things that concern me are the normally used traps. Sak, Widespread, Threating Roar and Waboku. It does not bother me when they use their other removal cards as I tend to have no more than 2 monsters on the field at one time and multiple copies in my deck.
Some other cards that you can consider are Dimension Wall, Nightmare Wheel, Magic Cylinder, Negate Attack, Chain Disappearance, Chain Destruction and many more. It would all depend on the type of deck you are using.
If I were you, I would not be too concerned against this type of deck. He has a weakness, all you have to do is find it and take advantage.

I also has a direct atking weenies deck. I'd say using high atking 3 stars and below monsters will be enough to counter him.

des counterblow maybe ???

Des Counterblow
Continuous Trap
Destroy any monster that inflicts Battle Damage to a player's Life Points by attacking directly.
|
Only down side to the card is that it destroys the monster AFTER the damage step. Okay for stopping raging flame sprites first attack, since you'll only lose 100lp.....but after a few attacks, RFS is gonna be giving you a nice kick in your LP region

Use spirit barrier, as long as you have a mon on the field. you take no battle damage. It's a rather nifty card ^_^

Well, I've a direct-damage deck too....
Very funny....
Stopping battle damage will only stop my Shadowslayer, but then, how about my other tricks like Meteor of Destruction, Ookazi, Final Flame, Hinotama, Inferno Blast Burn combined with REBD, Greed combined with the Card Destruction, etc. They DON'T deal batle damages, only straight damages to lifepoint. Not to mention my Mecha-Dogs....

Hey, the funny thing is that all of those combos are stopped by Des Wombat. =P
I'll support the Spirit Barrier Idea, it sounds pretty good. And if he also run Magic and Trap Cards that inflict direct damage to your Life Points, use Des Wombat also.

To stop Burn Effects (cards that deal damage thru effects such as Meteor of Destruction). you need Des Wombat.

Des Counterblow (as said before) is the key card you need to putting those direct attackers in there place! if he attacks directly his monsters are destroyed ^^ simple as that!

Gonna have agree with emerald and say it would be better to play Spirit Barrier. It pretty much makes their strategy useless while overloading them with monsters they will have to start dumping. Des Counterblow is a given factor they will have to expect since Monster Removal as something to deal with all the time (Dark Hole and Lightening Vortex). Spirit Barrier just makes them stop dead in their tracks.

if your only concerned with beating this one guy then run alot of spell trap removals and some big cost free monsters to hit hi litle guys. make sure you get rid of any raging flame sprites he may use as soon as possible or youll be in trouble real fast.

des counterblow seems all right, try SORL, maybe some monster-destroying cards to dispose of opponent's monsters quickly

Monk fighter+Spirit Barrier
3 Waboku+3 Threatening Roar
Swords of Revealing Light+Giant Trunade
Stuff like that...
Try making a deck that counter his.....Then he'll think his own deck sucks and try another decktype...Yet,that would be soooo evil....Hmm...

In that case you are no longer talking about a direct damage deck but a burn deck. Direct Damage is attacking through your opponent's clear field and/or bypassing thier monsters and attacking their life points directly (Jinzo #7).
