Pokerus: The Pokemon Virus
Has anyone here ever had Pokerus? I did on my R/S game. At first I did not know what it was so I stopped playing for a week. After I turned my game back on it was gone! It was very strange. Then my brother started my game over... But anyway I would like to know your opinions on Pokerus because I heard it raises stats.I wish I didn't start over!!!
And after pokerus disappeared it left a small white dot where the status is shown. Does anyone know why?

The Pokerus gives you double the amount of EV points, I think.
I've never had it...

Pokerus does indeed give you double EV's. With Macho Brace on that's 4x EV for a single battle!
I got it from a trade with my friend who obtained it through a glitch in his game. We know it was a glitch, check the post about Celebi and Jiraichi.
It's great, it makes EV training soooo fast. I trained Milotic and Alakazam in 10 minutes each with Pokerus.

2x not 4x

No, it does not quadruple. Both PokeRus and Macho Brace by themselves double Effort Points. If you have a pokemon with PokeRus and give it a Macho Brace it gets EPS at a double rate, not 4x.
Edit: On the Help Thread (post 6) is the Trainer's Checklist where this is all explained. Just search for "pokerus" if you want more info about it.

really?
so I would only get 2 HP EVs for beating a Whismur even if it was both holding Macho Brace and had Pokerus?

I was always under the impression that you would get the bonus from the Macho brace and the pokerus.

I'll test it and see.
The dude who wrote the Advanced Trainer's guide said in it that they all thought it was 4x, but then later they found out it wasn't. Check it out.
I've never tried to do both (but it would be really cool to get 4x). I'm just going by what he posted on the Guide. Maybe we could test it out just to be absolutely sure. I'm training up a new team so I'll try it and let everyone know what I find---probably by like tomorrow or so. Then we'll all know for sure.
Where the heck is Houndoom's Revenge!!!!

Actually, I think the Macho Brace+POKErus DOES give x4 EPs. I gave my infected Shroomish the Macho Brace and fed it 10 proteins and carbos, then fought 38 Zubat and Shuppet and one Whismur, talked to the effort ribbon lady, got a negetive message, took off the brace, fought another Whismur, and got the ribbon.
I think one of the last things HR posted was in a POKErus topic.

Ok let's see. Out of 510 you subtract 200 for the vitamins leaving 310 to go. Each zubat gives 1 to speed and each shuppet gives 1 to attack. So 38 *2 = 76 plus 1 HP (Whismur) = 77 EPs.
If it is 2x then it would be 154 (77*2) + 200 = 354 and no Ribbon. But if it is 4x then it would be 308 (77*4) + 200 = 508.
Hot darn. Looks like the Advanced Trainer's Guide was right in the beginning and then got bad info and changed it.
I'm still going to test it out since I'm EV training right now anway. Stay tuned.

pokerus
pokerus is such a pain to catch but it's well worth it.also remember to store your pokemon in the deposit box when you turn your gba off because the games timer is always ongoing but when the pokemon is in the deposit the time for that pokemon is then stoped.jan

I have a half-trained Staryu that I'm EV training in Special At and HP, so I'm battling the reporters since Loudred gives 2 points to one stat and Magneton gives 2 to the other stat. With PokeRus I get 8 points per battle and currently have 190 effort points left to go.
So what I'm gonna do is give it a macho brace to hold. If I get a Ribbon after twelve more battles with the reporters it means that we really do get 4x. If I have to fight 24 more battles than it's 2x.
I'll be offline trying this out but will post as soon as I know.

That's what I'm talking about Shineyaltaria. I calculated precisly the amount I needed to fight to gain 510 EV's if I had Macho Brace and Pokerus. I gave my pokemon the number of Vitamins I needed and subtracted their appropriate amount from 510. Then I went and trained. I kept track of how many pokemon I fought by counting by PP's of my moves and reseting htem when needed. I finished and checked and voila I got an Effort Ribbon.

You are right, I was wrong. The Advanced Trainer's Guide is wrong. Thanks for pointing this out. I just tested it out and got the Effort Ribbon in the exact time expected given a 4x effect. I should've tested it out before rather than just thinking the guide was right (duh).
PokeRus + Macho Brace = 4x.
Edit: Veteran Absol; I'm just trying something diffrerent with this new team and pokemon.

Good luck to you, Veteran Absol, you already know how I feel about that subject so I won't start it up again but I'm happy with what you are doing, and the example you are setting for the many posters that look up to you.
It's really weird but I've restarted my Sapphire cart like ten or twelve times by now (mostly for the TMs) and never once got a PokeRus until this last restart. I couldn't believe it when I went to heal and got the message. I got it in around 25 or 30 hours gametime. Now I'm hoping this is a 'lucky game' and maybe I'll finally see another shiney which I haven't seen since I started playing around June and July.

Uh, sorry to butt in like this, but wasn't I the one who originally made the arguement that Macho Brace+POKErus=x4 EPs? I mean, after SA made his proposition about only getting one multiplyer?
Just thought I'd say this, but the first I got that had POKErus was Rayquaza. I caught it at the sky pillar, check the PC, and voila! I caught it with only one ultra ball and one ice beam

I got Pokérus from pure chance sometime during the time I first went to Dewford Island. I had it transferred onto a few pokémon and stored them in boxes on my PC for when I'm training later teams. I thought they might loose it after a while, but they're still affected currently.

I guess so, but because of its rarity, it's probably more common that people just trade for effected Pokémon from someone else. It's a lot more time efficient than sitting around and waiting to find it yourself.
