Default Atlantean Heavy Infantry vs. Stardust Dragon

My opponent Discards Heavy Infantry for Mermail Abyssteus. I have a Stardust Dragon on the field.

He claims that Abyssteus & Infantry resolve on the same chain, as in . .

CL1: Heavy Infantry
CL2: Mermail Abyssteus ef

And therefore i cannot negate it with Stardust Dragon.

Is this true? I was under the impression that each of the card activates in it's own chain.

Both effects are triggered by the previous chain (the one that Special Summoned Abyssteus), so they form a chain as per SEGOC rules. The effect to Special Summon Abyssteus is by itself on a chain, but then its searching effect and that of Heavy Infantry are activated on the new chain.

Abyssteus starts a chain to Summon itself. Since Infantry met its trigger while paying the cost for Teus, it doesn't activate just yet.

It then forms a chain with Teus' trigger effect. Stardust cannot be activated.

Duly noted. Thx guys.

It's kinda weird that Abyssteus' effect splits into two different chains.

They are two different effects, one is Ignition (the Special Summon), the other is Trigger.

It's not the same as Battle Fader, but more like Gorz (except Gorz are two Trigger Effects).

How is it weird when they are different effects? The creation of this thread and your post shows that you do not know how to read new ygo cards.

I highly suggest you learn to read PSCT.
