Default The Official Super-Defense Robo Thread I - Ready For A Shocking Experience?

Welcome to the official guide and discussion thread for the Super Defense Robot archetype.

"Super Defense Robot", known as "Super Defense Robo" (SDスーパーヂフェンスロボ Sūpā Difensu Robo) in the Japanese version, is an archetype of cards used by Orbital 7 in the Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL anime. It is composed of EARTH Machine-Type monsters, each with varying Levels. The goal of this archetype is to quickly Xyz Summon Rank 8 Xyz Monsters, particularly their ace "Googly-Eyes Drum Dragon".
In the anime, they have a support card "Robopark" that can aid in swarming, though in the OCG/TCG, the monsters have a similar swarming effect instead. In addition, the cards can work together with the card version of "Orbital 7".
All of the members are based on animals that commonly appeared in circus (even "Robopark" itself is a circus), though their card names omit the last letter of the animals' names.

Section I: Monster Cards
Quote:
Super Defense Robot Elephan
Quote:
Attribute: Earth
Type(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 1400
DEF: 2500
Level: 8
Effect: When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 "Super Defense Robot" monster or "Orbital 7" from your hand. Once per turn: You can target 1 "Super Defense Robot" monster or "Orbital 7" you control; it becomes Level 8 until the End Phase. This card cannot be used as an Xyz Material for an Xyz Summon, except for the Xyz Summon of a Machine-Type monster.
This card is the key to the deck to making rank 8's because of it's effect to special summon a monster and make it level 8.
Quote:
Super Defense Robot Lio
Quote:
Attribute: Earth
Type(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 1200
DEF: 1600
Level: 4
Effect: When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 "Super Defense Robot" monster or "Orbital 7" from your hand. Once per turn, when exactly 1 "Super Defense Robot" monster or "Orbital 7" (and no other cards) is added from your Graveyard to your hand (except during the Damage Step): You can Special Summon it from your hand.
This card works great in conjunction with Monke because of his effect to add cards from the graveyard to the hand.
Quote:
Super Defense Robot Monki
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Types(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 800
DEF: 1200
Level: 3
Effect: When this card is Normal Summoned: You can Special Summon 1 "Super Defense Robot" monster or "Orbital 7" from your hand. Once per turn: You can banish 1 Machine-Type monster from your Graveyard, then target 1 "Super Defense Robot" monster or "Orbital 7" in your Graveyard; add that target to your hand.
This card is what triggers the effect of Lio. This is the engine with Lio to special summon the other support cards that will hopefully be released for this archetype.
Quote:
Googly-Eyes Drum Dragon
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Machine / Xyz / Effect
ATK: 3000
DEF: 2500
Rank: 8
Effect: 2 Level 8 Machine-Type monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; it gains 1000 ATK, until your opponent's next End Phase. If this card is destroyed while it has Xyz Material: You can banish 1 "Super Defense Robot" monster from your Graveyard; Special Summon this card from your Graveyard, then you can attach 1 "Super Defense Robot" monster from your Graveyard to this card as an Xyz Material.
This is the main rank 8 monster that this deck will be using. It is a great beater with 3000 ATK to overcome a good chunk of the meta and it can keep summoning itself.
Quote:
Section II: Support Cards
Quote:
Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 3000
DEF: 2000
Level: 8
Effect: If this card attacks, your opponent cannot activate any Spell/Trap Cards until the end of the Damage Step. This card gets extra effects if you Tribute Summon it by Tributing ● Green Gadget: During battle between this attacking card and a Defense Position monster whose DEF is lower than the ATK of this card, inflict the difference as Battle Damage to your opponent. ● Red Gadget: When this card inflicts Battle Damage to your opponent, inflict 400 damage to your opponent. ● Yellow Gadget: If this card destroys your opponent's monster by battle, inflict 600 damage to your opponent.
This card is just a great level 8 monster that could be used for fast rank 8 summons. You can use it in conjunction with Geartown to get out on the field quick.
Quote:
Card Trooper
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 400
DEF: 400
Level: 3
Effect: Once per turn: You can choose a number from 1 to 3, then send that many cards from the top of your Deck to the Graveyard; this card gains 500 ATK for each card sent to the Graveyard this way, until the End Phase. When this card you control is destroyed and sent to your Graveyard: Draw 1 card.
This is a great card to mill Machines into the grave. It also allows you to draw into more cards once it is destroyed. This deck relies on draw power, and this boosts it greatly.
Quote:
Cardcar D
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 800
DEF: 400
Level: 2
Cannot be Special Summoned. During your Main Phase 1, if this card was Normal Summoned this turn: You can Tribute this card; draw 2 cards, then it becomes the End Phase of this turn. You cannot Special Summon during the turn you activate this effect.
This is another great card to add draw power to this deck.
Quote:
Galaxy Wizard
Quote:
Attribute: LIGHT
Type(s): Spellcaster / Effect
ATK: 0
DEF: 1800
Level: 4
Effect: Once per turn: You can increase this card's Level by 4 until the End Phase. You can Tribute this card; add 1 "Galaxy" card from your Deck to your hand, except "Galaxy Wizard".
Helps with rank 8 summons because it can raise it's level by 4 to 8 for the turn and supports Orbital 7 because it is a "Galaxy" monster.
Quote:
Gearspring Spirit
Quote:
Attribute: DARK
Type(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 100
DEF: 100
Level: 8
Effect: Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by having only Machine-Type monsters in your Graveyard (min. 1). Once per turn: You can target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; its ATK becomes 0 until the End Phase.
This is another card that can be used for rank 8 summons with Elephan. It can also be used like a Gale in effect to cripple a monster's stats, although they aren't permanent.
Quote:
Geartown
Quote:
Property: Field
Type(s): Spell
Effect: Both players can Tribute Summon "Ancient Gear" monsters with 1 less Tribute than required. When this card is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 "Ancient Gear" monster from your hand, Deck, or Graveyard.
Can be used for Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon.
Quote:
Giant Rat
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Beast / Effect
ATK: 1400
DEF: 1450
Effect: When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard: You can Special Summon 1 EARTH monster with 1500 or less ATK from your Deck, in face-up Attack Position.
This card can be used to search out Elefan.
Quote:
Limiter Removal
Quote:
Property: Quick-Play
Type(s): Spell
Effect: Double the ATK of all face-up Machine-Type monsters you currently control, until the End Phase. During the End Phase, destroy those monsters.
This card is kind of a staple in any Machine deck.
Quote:
Machina Armored Unit
Quote:
Property: Countinuous
Type(s): Spell
Effect: Once per turn, when a Machine-Type monster is destroyed by battle and sent to your Graveyard, you can Special Summon 1 Machine-Type monster with lower ATK and the same Attribute from your Deck.
Can be used to summon more Machines.
Quote:
Machina Cannon
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 0
DEF: 2200
Level: 8
Effect: Cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by sending one or more Machine-Type monsters from your hand to the Graveyard. This card gains 800 ATK for each card sent to the Graveyard for this Special Summon.
This is another monster that can be used for rank 8 plays, and can help with Machina Fortress's effect to send it to the graveyard.
Quote:
Machina Fortress
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 2500
DEF: 1600
Level: 7
Effect: You can discard Machine-Type monster(s) whose total Levels equal 8 or more, then Special Summon this card (from your hand or Graveyard). When this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the Graveyard: Target 1 card your opponent controls; destroy that target. Before resolving an opponent's monster effect that targets this face-up card, look at your opponent's hand and discard 1 card from their hand.
A great card to be run in any Machine deck and can be used with Elephan's effect so it won't end up making you discard for its effect. It is also a good beater with 2500 ATK with such an easy way to summon itself.
Quote:
Machina Gearframe
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Machine / Union
ATK: 1800
DEF: 0
Level: 4
Effect: When this card is Normal Summoned, you can add 1 "Machina" monster, except "Machina Gearframe", from your Deck to your hand. Once per turn, during your Main Phase, you can equip this card to a Machine-Type monster you control as an Equip Card, OR unequip it to Special Summon this card in face-up Attack Position. (A monster can only be equipped with 1 Union Monster at a time. If the equipped monster would be destroyed, destroy this card instead.)
This card is great to search out Machina Cannon or Machina Fortress and is just a decent beater with 1800 ATK for being a level 4 monster.
Quote:
Monster Reincarnation
Quote:
Property: Normal
Type(s): Spell
Effect: Discard 1 card, then target 1 monster in your Graveyard; add it to your hand.
Can dump Machine cards into graves for the effects of the Super-Defense Robos and can also be summoned through the effect of Lio.
Quote:
Orbital 7
Quote:
Attribute: LIGHT
Type(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 500
DEF: 2000
Level: 4
Effect: When this card is flipped face-up: Place 1 You Got It Boss! Counter on it. You can remove all You Got It Boss! Counters from this card; its ATK becomes 2000. After you change this card's ATK with this effect, it cannot attack your opponent directly for the rest of this turn, and is sent to the Graveyard during the End Phase. You can Tribute this card to target 1 "Photon" or "Galaxy" monster in your Graveyard; add that target to your hand.
Is good to set and is a Machine Duplication target. This card goes with the archetype and incorporates this archetype with the Photon and Galaxy archetypes.
Quote:
Photon Thrasher
Quote:
Attribute: LIGHT
Type(s): Warrior / Effect
ATK: 2100
DEF: 0
Level: 4
Effect: Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) while you control no monsters. If you control another monster, this card cannot attack.
A Great level 4 monster that can special summon himself. Makes for a great rank 4 play with Machina Gearframe or Lio.
Quote:
Reactan, Elemental Dragon of Earth
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Dragon / Effect
ATK: 1800
DEF: 1200
Level: 4
Effect: You can discard this card and 1 other Dragon-Type or EARTH monster; Special Summon 1 "Redox, Elemental Dragon of Crags" from your Deck. It cannot attack this turn. You can only use the effect of "Reactan, Elemental Dragon of Earth" once per turn.
This card just searches out Redox, and since this deck has a lot of EARTH monsters, this is useful.
Quote:
Redox, Elemental Dragon of Crags
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Dragon / Effect
ATK: 1600
DEF: 3000
Level: 7
Effect: You can banish 2 Dragon-Type and/or EARTH monsters from your hand or Graveyard, except this card; Special Summon this card from your hand or Graveyard. During your opponent's End Phase, if this card was Special Summoned: Return it to the hand. You can discard this card and 1 other EARTH monster to the Graveyard to target 1 monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target. If this card is banished: You can add 1 EARTH Dragon-Type monster from your Deck to your hand. You can only use 1 "Redox, Elemental Dragon of Crags" effect per turn, and only once that turn.
This card is great just because the whole deck is going to be EARTH-based, and you can use Reactan to search him. He is also a rank 7 so he has some synergy with Machina Fortress.
Quote:
Scrap Recyler
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 900
DEF: 1200
Level: 3
Effect: When this card is Normal or Special Summoned, you can select and send 1 Machine-Type monster from your Deck to the Graveyard. Once per turn, you can Return 2 Level 4 Machine-Type EARTH monsters from your Graveyard to the Deck to draw 1 card.
Great to search out monsters for your grave.
Quote:
Shredder
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 1600
DEF: 1000
Level: 4
Effect: Once per turn, you can send 1 Machine-Type monster from your hand to the Graveyard to destroy 1 face-up monster your opponent controls whose Level is less than or equal to that monster's.
Great to send monsters to the grave.
Quote:
Swift Scarecrow
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s): Machine / Effect
ATK: 0
DEF: 0
Level: 1
Effect: When your opponent's monster declares a direct attack: You can discard this card; negate that attack, then end the Battle Phase (this is a Quick Effect).
This card works great to stall and it is also another Machine to add synergy to the deck.
Quote:
Terraforming
Quote:
Property: Normal
Type(s): Spell
Effect: Add 1 Field Spell Card from your Deck to your hand.
Can be used to search out Robopark if it ever gets released, and it can also search out Geartown for Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon.
Quote:
Trade-In
Quote:
Property: Normal
Type(s): Spell
Effect: Discard 1 Level 8 monster to draw 2 cards.
This can be used to discard Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon, Machina Cannon, and Elephan for fodder with Machina Fortress and with the effects of the other Super-Defense Robo monsters.
Quote:
XYZ Reborn
Quote:
Property: Normal
Type(s): Trap
Effect: Target 1 Xyz Monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon it and attach this card to it as an Xyz Material.
A great card to be used with Trashy-Eyes Fat Dragon
Quote:
Section III: Extra Deck Cards
Quote:
Felgrand the Divine Dragon Knight
Quote:
Attribute: LIGHT
Type(s): Warrior / Xyz / Effect
ATK: 2800
DEF: 1800
Rank: 8
Effect: 2 Level 8 monsters
Once per turn, during either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 face-up monster on the field; this turn, that target's effects are negated, also it is unaffected by other card effects.
A rank 8 monster which is what this deck revolves around.
Quote:
Gear Gigant X
Quote:
Attribute: EARTH
Type(s) Machine / Xyz / Effect
ATK: 2300
DEF: 1500
Rank: 4
Effect: 2 Level 4 Machine-Type monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; add 1 Level 4 or lower Machine-Type monster from your Deck or Graveyard to your hand. When this card leaves the field: You can target 1 Level 3 or lower "Geargia" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target.
This is just a staple rank 4 Machine monster and can be used with Lio and Machina Gearframe.
Quote:
Lavalval Chain
Quote:
Attribute: FIRE
Type(s): Sea Serpent / Xyz / Effect
ATK: 1800
DEF: 1000
Rank: 4
Effect: 2 Level 4 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to activate 1 of these effects;
● Send 1 card from your Deck to the Graveyard.
● Choose 1 monster from your Deck and place it on top of your Deck.
This is a great card to topdeck any card that you need or you can pile up your grave with cards like Machina Fortress or for the effects of the Super-Defense Robo's.
Quote:
Mecha Phantom Beast Draccosack
Quote:
Attribute: WIND
Type(s): Machine / Xyz / Effect
ATK: 2600
DEF: 2200
Rank: 7
Effect: 2 Level 7 monsters
Once per turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; Special Summon 2 "Mecha Phantom Beast Tokens" (Machine-Type/WIND/Level 3/ATK 0/DEF 0). This card cannot be destroyed by battle or by card effects while you control a Token. Once per turn: You can Tribute 1 "Mecha Phantom Beast" monster to target 1 card on the field; destroy it. This card cannot attack the turn you activate this effect.
You can use this as an XYZ monster with Machina Fortress since it is a level 7 monster.
Quote:
Number 107: Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon
Quote:
Attribute: DARK
Type(s) Dragon / Xyz / Effect
ATK: 3000
DEF: 2500
Rank: 8
Effect: 2 Level 8 monsters
Once per Battle Phase, at the start of your Battle Phase: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card; negate the effects of all other face-up monsters on the field, and if you do, their ATK and DEF become their original ATK and DEF. During the Battle Phase of the turn this card activated its effect, each time an opponent's card effect is activated, this card gains 1000 ATK until the end of that Battle Phase, and it can make a second attack during each Battle Phase that turn.
A great rank 8 monster to go with the rank 8 spam that this deck accomplishes.
Quote:
Number 11: Big Eye
Quote:
Attribute: DARK
Type(s): Spellcaster / Xyz / Effect
ATK: 2600
DEF: 2000
Rank: 7
Effect: 2 Level 7 monsters

DEF: 2500
Rank: 8

Up to twice per turn, during your Main Phase 1: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card to target 1 Special Summoned monster your opponent controls; destroy that target, and if that target was an Xyz Monster, inflict damage to your opponent equal to its original ATK.
A great rank 8 monster to go with the rank 8 spam that this deck accomplishes.
Quote:
Wind-Up Zenmaines
Quote:
Attribute: FIRE
Type(s): Machine / Xyz / Effect
ATK: 1500
DEF: 2100
Rank: 3
Effect: 2 Level 3 monsters
If this face-up card on the field would be destroyed, you can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card instead. Once per turn, during the End Phase, if this effect was used this turn: Target 1 card on the field; destroy it.
This is a great card that works with Super-Defense Robo Monke because he is a level 3 monster.

Photon Thrasher: Makes Rank 4's easier and is supported by Orbital 7.

Tinplate Goldfish: Machine Rank 4 enabler.

Gear Gigant X: Reinforcement of the Army for Machines.

Machina Gearframe and Machina Fortress: Recurring beaters. Elefan itself can be used alone to special summon Foretress from the grave. Monke helps keep up hand advantage for it.

Machina Cannon, Gearspring Spirit, Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon: Machines for Rank 8 Xyz Summon

Gimmick Puppets: Another archetype dedicated to Rank 8's. Perhaps these two "incomplete" archetypes might due well in a hybrid.

Monke being Level 3 is kinda annoying me. Pretty much only makes it good with Elafan.

Subbing. .

Additional Comment:

Isn't it missing the old robo card that lets you draw?

What do you guys think of Double Summon, Foolish Burial, and Geartown being added to the OP?

I'm pretty sure that Helping Robo For Combat has nothing to do with these cards.

I already suggested adding Geartown.. I also suggested Foolish Burial and Double Summon but no one has answered about that yet.

I had actually already thought of Monster Reincarnation as well lol.

Would machinas/geargias/gadgets/gimmick puppets be good here?

Machinas and Gimmick Puppets would definitely be good here. Machinas just naturally support this archetype and Gimmick Puppets for level 8's would help.

Trade-In is a good idea. It will get fodder into the grave for the effects of the Robo's, and it can be used on Machina Cannon, Gadjiltron Dragon, and Elephan.

Terraforming is just kind of a given for any field spell. Should I even bother putting that up there?

What do you guys think about Double Summon & Foolish Burial?

Why Double Summon? You already unload your hand onto the field.
OP needs more Scrap Recycler.
