Default The Official Gogogo Thread I: Go! Go! Go! Hurry up!

I. Introduction
Quote:
The Gogogos are an archetype of Syllable monsters used by the two protagonists of Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL, Yuma Tsukumo and Astral. This archetype first came out in Generation Force. Much like another Syllable archetype, the Gagagas, the Gogogos have slowly but steadily received a stream of support, with additional Gogogo members and support getting released in Order of Chaos, Cosmo Blazar, Lord of the Tachyon Galaxy, Duelist Pack: Yuma 2: Gogogo & Dododo, V Jump Edition 10 and Primal Origin as well as a plethora of old and new off-theme support. Gogogo monsters focus on quick Rank 4 Xyz Summons by Special Summoning from the Graveyard. All Gogogo monsters have good ATK and/or some form of defensive capability and are all Rock-Type, which the exception of Gogogo Ghost who’s a Zombie-Type.
II. Gogogo Cards

Quote:
Quote:
Gogogo Giant
EARH, Rock, Level 4, ATK: 2000, DEF: 0
When this card is Normal Summoned: You can target 1 "Gogogo" monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target in face-up Defense Position, then change this card to Defense Position. If this card attacks, it is changed to Defense Position at the end of the Battle Phase.
An instant Rank 4 with a Gogogo in the Grave. As our one-card Xyz, this guy is crucial in Gogogos and will often be your go-to Onomatopair and Goliath target. Also has a nice ATK if you need to run over TKRO or Doomcalibur. Its 0 DEF makes it a Chameleon target.
Run 3

Quote:
Gogogo Ghost
DARK, Zombie, Level 4, ATK: 1900, DEF: 0
If this card is Special Summoned: You can target 1 "Gogogo Golem" in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target in face-up Defense Position, then change this card to Defense Position. You can only use the effect of "Gogogo Ghost" once per turn.
This guy opens up more Rank 4 plays and is basically the reason why Zombies are an option as Gogogo support. This guy has the backing of all the Zombie support! You can get its effect by Special Summoning from the grave with Zombie Master, Book of Life and Mezuki and from the deck with Pyramid Turtle! It can also be searched by Goblin Zombie! It has nice ATK and its 0 DEF makes it a Chameleon target.
Run 1-2

Quote:
Gogogo Golem
EARTH, Rock, Level 4, ATK: 1800, DEF: 1500
Once per turn, this face-up Defense Position card cannot be destroyed by battle.
Decent ATK and a good stall effect that makes it great to Set on Turn 1 or if you're in a tight corner. A Rank 4 combo piece since Ghost specifically designates Golem in its effect.
Run 1

Quote:
Number 55: Gogogo Goliath
Earth, Rock, Rank 4, ATK: 2400, DEF: 1200
2 Level 4 Monsters
You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then target 1 Level 4 EARTH Rock-Type monster in your Graveyard; add that target to your hand. You can only use the effect of "Number 55: Gogogo Goliath" once per turn. All monsters you control gain 800 DEF.
A great Rank 4 to turn your -1 or +0 Xyz play into a +0 or +1. Can recycle your Giants for reuse. Mainly for keeping up and gaining advantage for constant Rank 4 output so that you don't lose steam.
Run 1 (OCG Only)

Quote:
Gogogo Gigas
EARTH, Rock, Level 4, ATK: 0, DEF: 2200
If a "Gogogo" monster(s) is Special Summoned (except during the Damage Step), while this card is in your Graveyard: You can Special Summon this card from your Graveyard in face-up Defense Position. You can only use the effect of "Gogogo Gigas" once per turn. You cannot conduct your Battle Phase the turn you activate this effect.
Another way to increase your Level 4 output. Unfortunately, it's outclassed by Ghost. Gigas isn't a Zombie, has 0 ATK, isn't a Masked Chameleon target and skips your Battle Phase.
Run 0

Quote:
Gogogo Golem - Golden Form
EARTH, Rock, Level 4, ATK: ?, DEF: 1500
Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned (from your hand) by Tributing 1 "Gogogo" monster, and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. This card's ATK is equal to double the Tributed monster's original ATK. Battle damage inflicted to your opponent by this card is halved. Once per turn, when a monster effect is activated on your opponent's side of the field: This card loses exactly 1500 ATK and that effect is negated.
This monster wasn't actually used by Yuma in the anime. Rather, it's based on the anime scene in which Yuma used Golden Form and Power Change Barrier with Gogogo Golem. This new friend makes for a powerful beatstick (Golem -> 3600, Ghost -> 3800, Giant -> 4000, Goliath -> 4800 ATK). It also has a nifty once per turn ability to negate a monster effect, restricting your opponent nicely. The effect makes it lose 1500 ATK (going down to 2100, 2300, 2500 and 3300 ATK which are great ATK stats). Unfortunately Golem - Golden Form is Nomi and therefore can't be summoned by Giant. Summoning him can get out Gigas from your grave but we've established that Gigas should not be run. This guy can open up a nice beatdown/control option to use alongside our Rank 4 plays or when Xyz Summoning isn't possible and benefits from the searchability provided by Onomatopair and recyclability provided by Goliath.
Run 0-1 (OCG Only)

Quote:
Gogogo Gorham
EARTH, Rock, Level 4, ATK: 2300, DEF: 0
When this card is Summoned: Change its battle position. When this card on the field is destroyed and sent to the Graveyard: Send 1 "Gogogo" monster from your Deck to the Graveyard.
You won't be able to make use of its high ATK and it's slow. Ghost is easy to set-up as a Zombie and Golem can be set-up by use as Xyz Fodder, Foolish Burial, Lavalval Chain and Onomatopaira's cost. Even without Golem, we can handle ourselves very well with all of our other Rank 4 methods.
Run 0

Quote:
Gogogo Gofu
Continuous Spell
If you control 2 or more "Gogogo" monsters, you take no effect damage. Once per turn, when a "Gogogo" monster you control attacks or is attacked: That monster cannot be destroyed by that battle.
Not needed. Regarding the first effect, you'd usually much rather be Xyz Summoning though I admit, it could be useful against burn decks. As for the second effect, it's better to run cards that get rid of threats or more versatile protection like Safe Zone.
Run 0

Quote:
Onomatopaira
Normal Spell
Send 1 card from your hand to the Graveyard; add up to 2 of the following from your Deck to your hand, but only 1 from each. You can only activate 1 "Onomatopair" per turn.
● "Zubaba" monster
● "Gagaga" monster
● "Gogogo" monster
● "Dododo" monster
Searchability, deck thinning, consistency and speed. What more can you ask for? With our Gogogos and Zombies, you won't be short on good discard targets. Discard a Gogogo and searching Giant and Buster just set-up an Xyz play! Good monsters to run so that it's not a -1 is Dododo Buster, a pseudo-Cyber Dragon for Level 4's that also allows for a Rank 6 tech and Gagaga Gardna, a nice chumpblocker to protect your lifepoints.
Run 3 along with 2-4 Dododo Buster AND/OR Gagaga Gardna.

III. Off-Theme Cards

Quote:
Various ways of getting pieces into your grave. Lavalval and Foolish are staples at 1. Though unorthodox and not recommended for general builds, Trooper and Lightsworns have seen success. Many duelists used to use cards EARTH/Rock-support to get Golem into the grave but don't bother. They can be dead draws mid to late game and we have plenty of ways of getting out Rank 4's without Golem, hence why Golem shouldn't be your top priority while setting up.

Quote:
Level 4 Spam from the Hand
Kagetokage
Dododo Buster
Goblindbergh
Photon Thrasher
These guys get the ball rolling early game when your Grave isn't set-up yet, allowing you Xyz Summon right away and get rid of dead cards in the hand like Golem and Mezuki. Kage and Buster are our main go-to guys, searchable by King of the Feral Imps and Onomatopaira respectively, as well as other benefits such as Key Beetle and Rank 6 access respectively.
Goblin and Thrasher are also good Level 4 spam cards to run, being Chameleon and RotA targets. The former can trigger Ghost's effect while the latter can also work by itself as a beater. If you choose to run these two, run at 0-2 combined alongside Kagetokage and Buster, not instead of them.

Chameleon is amazing one-card Extra Deck Monster that's searchable by King of the Feral Imps and gives us Level 8 Synchro access, including awesome cards like Stardust Spark, Jeweled RDA, Scrap and Blader. Ghost, Master, Goblindbergh, Thrasher and Dru are all targets. Run at 2-3.
Dru's main benefits are the ability to go into Key Beetle and not restricting your Special Summons. However, many of us have dropped it because we already run Giant and Chameleon, both of which are searchable. Druid is often underwhelming when drawn. Doesn't help that it has fewer targets and less Extra Deck access than Chameleon.

Ghost gave us an excuse to use these guys! Anyone of these guys can Special Summon Ghost who can then Special Summon Golem. They're Rank 4 engines even without the Gogogos. Swarm, overlay and eat brains!
Run 3 Mezuki
Run 1-2 Master since it can clog and is accessible by Zombie support anyway.
Run 2-3 Life depending on how many Zombies and other revival cards you're running.
Il Blud is an interesting tech choice, even better now with Onomatopair and Buster, as it's another Level 6 to overlay for your teched Rank 6. It's also a great Safe Zone target for uninterrupted Zombie swarm. It can be brought out by Turtle, revived by Zombie-stuff and discarded for Master and Onomatopair's cost.
Blue-Blooded Oni was a fun tech used by earlier Gogogo Zombie builds. However, now it's unneeded and has consistency problems.

Quote:
Zombie Floaters:
Goblin Zombie
Pyramid Turtle
It's all about set-up. These two monsters can get the pieces into play, setting you up for your undead and earthen army to invade. Goblin usually takes priority over Turtle due to how common destruction effects are nowadays.

Quote:
Gagagas:
Gagaga Gardna
Gagaga Academy Emergency Network
Gagagarevenge
Thanks to Onomatopair, the various Syllable archetypes are able to tech or even hybridize with each other! Though slow, Gardna insures that Onomatopair breaks even and can SS itself while defending yourself from an attack. Great for stopping an OTK, stopping an attack Brotherhood of the Fire Fist - Bear and dumping a Mezuki in your hand. It's also supported by Gagaga Spell Cards! Academy Emergency Network can Special Summon it from the deck to aid in an Xyz Summon. If you decide to tech this, max out on Gardna so that Onomatopair doesn't become a -1. Then there's Revenge, a fun tech that can revive a Gagaga. Though Call Of The Haunted would be better use of space.

Quote:
Miscellaneous Zombie Techs:
Plaguespreader Zombie
Spirit Reaper
Bone Crusher
Endless Decay
All have good pros but aren't needed thanks to the Rank 4 toolbox and their incompatibility with said toolbox.

Quote:
Summoner Monk
Gets your pieces from the deck! however, having to pitch a Spell can be a hefty price and can make it dead late game. Also cards like Onomatopair make it much easier to toolbox from the Main Deck.

A Level 4 dark that can Special Summon itself from the grave by bouncing one of your cards, essentially a +1. Use it to re-use cards like Gogogo Giant, Fiendish Chain or Call Of The Haunted. Can also make a good combination with Safe Zone, by equipping it to an opponent's monster, summoning Zephyros and killing that monster. As a DARK, it'll give greater consistency with getting out Master Key Beetle. Buster and Kagetokage, both of which are searchable, make it less dead in the hand.

Giant, Golem, Buster, Turtle and Mezuki are EARTH's. Another grave recursion option and at worst, can act as a 3000 DEF chumpblocker for stalling.

A nice Main Deck boss. With Gogogo Zombies' ability to fill the grave and revive from it, getting DAD out should be easy. A good amount of Zombies are DARK as well as our off-theme support such as Druise and Zephyros.

Draw power and deck thinning.

Chances are you'll be getting Mezuki into play quite early on thanks to Goblin Zombie, Pyramid Turtle, Lavalval Chain, etc. This card allows you to use Mezuki a second time. Can also recycle cards banished by Allure, DAD, Bottomless, Dragon's Mirror, etc.

Extra searchability if running Goblindbergh or Thrasher.

Quote:
Creature Swap
Combos with Goblin Zombie and Pyramid Turtle. Troll card that can take your opponent's monster and get past targeting immunity.

A card that gives +1 hand advantage and recycles cards from your grave, such as one-card Xyzs or powerful Extra Deck monsters. The standard Gogogo deck runs Rocks, Zombies and Reptiles. This doesn't include Extra Deck monsters, Hand Traps and other teched Monsters so it should be easier to get three different Types in your grave. The card also skips your Battle Phase though with Xyz like Exciton and ARK, that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Another restriction is having to activate it at the beginning of your Main Phase 1, which does limit your plays a bit. If your deck can Supply it, it's a great card for gaining and keeping up advantage, recycling key cards and making a comeback!

Quote:
Zombie World
A great Side Deck card. Good against Field Spell decks, Tribute Summon decks and certain forms of Type-reliant decks such as Spellbooks. It's also funny taking your opponent's dead monster with Zombie Master.

Recycles Master, Ghost and Dru. Outclassed by regular revival though.

Quote:
Miscellaneous Revival
Call of the Haunted
Pinpoint Guard
Nice, more generic revival methods for Extra Deck plays, inflicting more damage or chump blocking. Their genericness and wider range of targets makes them more versatile, CotH in particular. In terms of more specific combos, you can get the effects of Ghost and Gigas. You can also chain CotH to MST to get a search off of Goblin Zombie.

You can use with Imps, Chameleon and Kagetokage to **** up your opponent's field advantage!

Various Xyz support cards. Fun to use but not recommended for serious play.

A generic Rank 4 that can search any Reptile, such as Kagetokage and Masked Chameleon. One of our key set-up Xyzs, making it an automatic staple in the Extra Deck.

The combo goes like this, summon Manga Stardust or Master Key Beetle, target it with Safe Zone and use its effect to protect Safe Zone! This serves as an amazing stall against decks such as Dragon Rulers, giving you time to set-up your next play without fear of losing your lifepoints. This creates a nearly impenetrable defense! Chameleon can make Manga Stardust and Gogogo Zombies run enough DARK's to get out Master Key Beetle easily. The two can also combo with various Side Deck traps for Game 2 such as DNA Surgery and Light-Imprisoning Mirror. In addition, Safe Zone in general is a great card to main even without Stardust Spark and Key Beetle. Nothing's better than getting two uses out of Lavalval Chain or King of the Feral Imps or protecting a control monster such as Crimson Blader or Abyss Dweller.

Quote:
Dragon's Mirror
Dragonecro Nethersoul Dragon
This is a great topdeck! Grants field presence in the form of a token and deals 3000 damage! Generally only run at most 1 if you're running a good number of Zombies that aren't Ghost or Mezuki, since you won't want to banish them.

Ranking-Up gives extra power to your Xyz toolbox, with many of the Number C's acting as win conditions by themselves, usually sporting card removal, effect negation and/or heavy damage. You generally want your Number C line-up to be as useful in as many scenarios as possible. Therefore, Limited Barian's Force is the best choice since it's not limited by Type or Attribute. Similarly, C69 and C101 are the best Number C's because their usefulness requires no specific Xyz Materials. C106 is also versatile to a lesser extent, instead requiring any Number Monster (50, 55, 80, 101 and 103). I wouldn't knock C80 and C104 though. Thought they require specific Xyz Materials, making them lower priority, their respective banish and negation effects are amazingly powerful. The only ones I would dismiss are the two Utopia evolutions, which require Utopia which itself is obsolete nowadays. If you decide to Rank-Up, keep RUM and your Number C's at the same ratio.

Quote:
Rank-Up-Magic The Seventh One
Number C101: Silent Honor DARK
Number C106: Giant Hand Red
Number C107: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Tachyon Dragon
The Barian Emperors have been kind! The Seventh One is a powerful 1-card Number C10X. Of course it has some restrictions: must be drawn with a normal draw, must be activated that turn and at the beginning of Main Phase 1 and is only Once Per Duel. So basically it's one-shot which isn't a problem. We don't run draw power so we're fine there. The forced activation likely won't be a problem, at worst baiting out the opponent's protection. There's is one risk though. If you have it in your opening hand, you can't use it. If going first, the chances of that happening are 6/40 = 15% and if going second, 5/40 = 12.5%. The risk factor makes The Seventh One unadvisable for competitive play. But for casual play, I think it's more than negligible enough.
Now for the targets. Above I listed the best targets, with C101 sporting monster assimilation and revival, C106 and C107 sporting awesome effect negation and C107 sporting a beefy ATK. That being said, C101 would be the best target since we already run 101 in our Extra Deck and wouldn't have to waste as much space.
If you run The Seventh One, only run 1 along with 1 Number C10X target (preferably C101).
IV. Strategy

Quote:
Gogogos focus on spamming Level 4's to Xyz Summon Rank 4 Monsters. We primarily use the Graveyard as our source of Xyz Materials, using various Zombie-methods such as Mezuki and Book of Life and one-card Xyzs such as Giant and Chameleon.

Your first turn or two will be spent setting up the grave by getting key pieces in there to prepare your Zombie, Chameleon and Giant plays. Here's a general run-through of the various first-turn plays of a Gogogo deck.

Quote:
Set Goblin Zombie

Set Pyramid Turtle

Activate Onomatopair to search Dododo Buster/Gagaga Gardna and a Gogogo

Activate Foolish Burial

Synchro/Xyz Summon
1) Lavalval Chain, King of the Feral Imps or Number 55: Gogogo Goliath
2) Stardust Spark Dragon or Number 66: Master Key Beetle + Safe Zone or Continuous S/T Matchup/Meta Call
3) Abyss Dweller, Steelswarm Roach, Number 103: Ragna Zero, etc as a Meta Call if you know what deck your opponent is using (usually during Game 2 of a Match)
3) Miscellaneous Extra Deck Monster depending on situation (if going second)
- Monster + Kagetokage
- Goblindbergh + Monster
- Photon Thrasher + Monster
- Dododo Buster + Monster (if going second)
- Gagaga Academy Emergency Network -> Gagaga Gardna + Monster (if going second)
- Gogogo Giant + Gogogo (dumped by either Onomatopair's cost or Foolish Burial)
- Masked Chameleon + 0 DEF Monster (dumped by either Onomatopair's cost or Foolish Burial)

Set Backrow
As you can see, floaters, recruiters, searchers, dumpers and the act of Xyz Summoning itself assist in getting ready for your later plays.

Don't focus too much on setting up Golem. When it hits the grave, awesome. But until then, we have many other Rank 4 plays. Remember, setting up Zombie, Giant and Chameleon plays is the priority.

Like any Rank 4 deck outside of non-generic ones (Evilswarms with Ophion, Battlin' boxers with Lead Toke, etc), this deck isn't a "Boss Monster" deck. Our Extra Deck toolbox consists of various monsters with different purposes and for different scenarios. Lavalval and King of the Feral Imps are-set up, Numbers 50 and 101 get rid of difficult to destroy monsters, Jeweled RDA and Exciton Knight cause mass destruction, Cowboy and Dragonecro are finishers, etc, etc. Throughout the duel, you'll likely summon multiple Extra Deck monsters, attacking and counter-attacking your opponent. This along with our Graveyard-recursion skills makes it easier for us to out-resource and beat the opponent.

There's already a Gagaga thread that's fairly active and has a capable leader.

Silly me! I should add Redox, the Rock Suppressor Dragon to the off-theme support section. Great with Rock Gogogos.

I'll begin the deck variant sections later today. I'll start off with descriptions and how many of each Gogogo card to run. Then I'll do the non-Gogogo cards for Zombie Gogogos. I might need help for Rock Gogogos, might just skim the Rock Stun thread for Rock Swarm decklists.

What are your guys' thoughts on the number of Blue-Blooded Oni to run? It has a fearsome ability to increase your Xyz Spam. It also can't be brought out by Pyramid Turtle and Goblin Zombie because its DEF is too high. As a result, some people run 2 or even 3 of it. I, however, have found 2-3 of it to be cloggy and therefore stick to 1. I do recognize its power though.

Gogogo Gigas is pretty cool.

Use CoTH in your opponent's EP, revive Gogogo, SS Gigas = many Xyz Summons in your turn without repercussions. It's good with searchers like Giant Rat and Pyramid Turtle, too.

I had forgotten that Ghost and Gigas get their effects when special summoned from the deck too. This changes things.... I'll have the OP edited later today. Thanks for the help. All are good ways to avoid Gigas' battle restrictions effects.

Additional Comment:

Just to make sure, would chaining CoTH to MST allow me to get a summon off of Ghost and Gigas? No timing issues or anything? I wanna be absolutely sure before adding to the OP.

No worries. As FudouYusei posted, the key to Gogogo Gigas is to use Call Of The Haunted or the effects of cards like Pyramid Turtle and Giant Rat on your opponent's turn. This gets rid of that pesky battle restriction. Besides, even on your turn, something like Number 16: Shock Master or Number 106: Giant Hand + Number 39: Giant Hand would be worth it.

Meant Utopia lol

Number 39 and Number 106 together are quite a force. I've done this several times.

Yes you can. That's how it can work with Giant. I'll try to dig up the ruling if you want.

Lyla destroys the card and changes to DEF at the same time. Gogogo Ghost changes position after.
