Default Laval Magma Cannoneer

Laval Magma Cannoneer
Level: ****
Type: Pyro
Attribute: Fire
Quote:
Effect
Up to twice per turn: You can send 1 FIRE monster from your hand to the Graveyard; inflict 500 damage to your opponent.
I'm well aware that when you send Laval Volcano Handmaiden to the grave with this card, she misses timing as the last thing to happen is the inflicting of 500 damage.

I'm wondering, is 'You can send 1 FIRE monster from your hand to the Graveyard' a cost? I would assume it is.

If that's the case than with Skill Drain up can you sent Handmaiden to the grave? If so, does that mean Handmaiden will not miss timing?

1. It's a cost. So yes, you can discard under Skill Drain.
2. Maiden will miss timing.

To extend on this; Maiden wont miss timing if you use magma whilst Skilldrain is active

Wouldn't the effect resolving cause a timing issue, even if Skill Drain does negate the damage?

It would. The post you quoted is incorrect.

Okay, not to hijack a thread, but asking a few questions.

Why is this card ran? Is it lack of good laval monsters? Is it the need for dumping of laval monsters?

Because the way I see it, 500 for a -1 in hand seems... a bad trade-off.

Can someone enlighten me as to why cannoneer is a good move?

Cannoneer has the good fortune to be the only level 4 "Laval" monster with 200 DEF.

So basically, lack of options.

Yeah, Laval Magma Cannoneer is the only Level 4 Laval monster with 200 defence. It's also used for dumping with Molten Conduction Field.

I second that statement. Setting up Rekindling and inflicting burn damage on a 1700 ATK body is far from bad.

He is used as the level four but also to help get the grave going. Dumping a sprite or handmaiden or another cannoneer helps when you activate Rekindling. It is valuable when setting up for a quasar dragon play because you need to make those level five monsters. Needs to be run at three in all laval based decks.

^ Wrong.

You run it at 2, it's awful at 3.
