Default Noobs need help understanding

We finally have the gist of the game, but still don't quite understand how specialty cards, such as EX, Mega EX, and Break cards are used. For example, I have a "BASIC" Dragonite EX. Because it says "Basic", can I go ahead and play it, or do I first have to start with Dratini and evolve my way up to Dragonite and then Dragonite EX? And then, how would I get to Mega Dragonite EX? Is that the next evolution, or is there some Trainer Card that I would need? Similar question regarding the "Break" cards as to how one would arrive at playing one of them.

You play EX pokemon as a basic Pokemon, you don't have to evolve it. But to play Mega-Ex Pokemon, you have to evolve them from Ex Pokemon (Dragonite doesn't have a Mega Evolution...), sice those are Stage 1 Pokemons.

Break Pokemons are evolutions of their Non-Break counterparts: For example, you have to evolve Greninja into Greninja-Break. Also, you cannot Evolve Ex Pokemon into Break Pokemon.

Thanks! I'm gonna put some in my deck and let my gf find out by using them on her. LOL.

Additional Comment:

Add on question... how do the "Spirit Link" trainer cards work? They all say "Your turn does not end if the Pokemon this card is attached to becomes M xxxxx-EX." Does that basically mean that once this trainer card is played the game is over because you can just keep attacking continuously until all of the opponent's pokemon are knocked out?

M-xxxx Ex pokemon all have "Your turn ends when you play this pokemon to evolve xxxx Ex", spirit link just mean that your turn doesn't end when you play said pokemon to evolve its previous Stage.

Okay, so instead of your turn ending at the point of evolution, it allows you to continue your turn as you would after evolving any other regular pokemon. Thanx!

Can EX cards be evolved to Mega EX on your bench or does that card have to be the active card?

The is no restriction on where your EX Evolves - it can Evolve on the Bench and in the Active.
