Default Xyz material detaching + having targets in grave

If there is an Xyz monster that needs to detach a material to target cards in the grave for an effect, can one of its targets include the material that was detached?

Why/why not?

I'm gonna go with yes, as long as you have a currently legal target in grave first... Kind of like Lumina, Lightsworn Summoner...

Although, I could be wrong about this.

It's a really finicky subject I've observed since PSCT was brought in. Konami lately has been showing that paying the cost and then targeting are not simultaneous actions on Zombie Master's PSCT, and both of Lumina's PSCT printings. I'm not sure if that's something new they started doing since Legendary Collection 2, (like what they started doing with Hieratic Seal of Reflection and similar cards starting since GAOV) or if they're intentionally not doing it for cards like Blue-Blooded Oni and Leviair the Sea Dragon.

I've sent an email about it.

You two seem right about that; Lumina and Zombie Master both work that way, as long as there were legit targets in the grave before activating the effect.

Anyone else can offer input on this?

Lumina and Zombie Master are probably the best examples. As long as their are legal target(s) in wherever, you can target the card used as a Cost.

Indeed, that makes the most sense, least till official rulings are out.

Above posters are right. There is one special case at the moment: Messier 7. Since his effect can either bounce field or graveyard, and he always has the option of bouncing himself, he will be able to detach and bounce the material even if there are nothing in both players' graveyards.
