Ice Barrier Exclusives!
I was super bored and started to think about a few cards that could make the archetype not broken, but super good. This is what I've come up with...
Quote:
General Axheth of the Ice Barrier
***** - Water - Warrior - 2400/1400
This card cannot be normal summoned or set. This card cannot be special summoned except when you control two or more face-up "Ice Barrier" monsters. Once per turn, you can banish one "Ice Barrier" card from your graveyard to target one card on the field; destroy that target.
|
Quote:
Commander Ojex of the Ice Barrier
Rank 4 - Water - Warrior - 2100/1700
2 Level 4 Water-Type Monsters
As long as this card has Xyz material(s); level 4 or lower "Ice Barrier" monsters cannot be destroyed by battle, and all face-up water type monsters gain ATK and DEF equal to their level x 100.
If a face-up water type monster you control would be destroyed, you can remove an Xyz material from this card instead.
|
Quote:
Reaver of the Ice Barrier
**** - Water - Spellcaster - 1700/400
If this card is sent to the graveyard while you control a face-up "Ice Barrier" monster; special summon one "Reaver of the Ice Barrier" from your deck. The effect of "Reaver of the Ice Barrier" can only be activated once per turn.
|
Quote:
Invoker of the Ice Barrier
* - Water - Aqua - 0/1900
You can banish this card and any number of "Ice Barrier"monsters from your graveyard; Special Summon one"Ice Barrier" monster from your hand or graveyard who's level is equal to or lower than the total level of all
monsters banished by this effect. The effect of "Invoker of the Ice Barrier" can only be used once per duel.
|
Quote:
Ice Boundary
Field Spell
Apply each of the following effects, based on the number of "Ice Barrier" monsters you control.
1: All face-up "Ice Barrier" monsters gain 200 ATK and DEF.
2: During your draw phase, if you draw an "Ice Barrier" monster, you may reveal it and draw once more.
3: Once Per Turn during either players turn, you can tribute an "Ice Barrier" monster you control to target a face-up monster your opponent controls: flip that target face-down, but do not change it's battle position.
4: Once Per Turn, you may inflict 500 damage to your opponent for each "Ice Barrier" monster you control. You may not enter your battle phase during the turn you use this effect.
5: Send this card to the graveyard; destroy all cards your opponent controls.
|
Quote:
Cryo-Shield of the Ice Barrier
Counter Trap
When a face-up "Ice Barrier" monster you control is destroyed (by battle or card effect), target a face-up monster your opponent controls; flip that monster face-down, but do not change its battle position. That monster cannot change battle position, be used as Synchro or Xyz material, or be tributed until your opponents next end phase.

Hm...

Cryo-shield is just Musakani Magatama, and that's a little corny, I think. I like Reaver, though. He's like Naturia Cliff but he doesn't miss the timing... even if you Synchro Summon. But, since you need to control an Ice Barrier monster for him to work, you need to make an Ice Barrier Synchro most of the time. I like it
The general is cool too... helps them swarm their three monsters, and he's got a good level for Synchros with all of the Ice Barrier Tuners (makes an easy Gungnir!).
All in all, a good haul; I just think the Counter Trap could use something to make it more interesting or thematic.

I used to love running Ice Barriers just by themselves but, the deck was a little slow and hard to work with without outside help. These cards definitely don't break the Archetype, but they sure as hell help them! They need more support, just like the T.G. series. Personally, I would run General in a pair but Reaver, he I would personally run in 3s. Reaver's effect makes it possible to do a first turn Synchro Summon, especially if you run A legendary Ocean. No offense intended as I can see what you were trying to do but, I personally would not run the Cryo-Shield because if you play your cards just right, if you have Brionac out on the field or Gungnir, you really don't need to worry about the back row much, especially with Heavy Storm and 3x MST running amok. All in all, not a bad set of cards and quite a bit of creativity. Keep plugging away at these cards, and you could have yourself some decent Ice Barrier support that they desperately need.

Haha yeah, Cryo-Shield is a mock-off of Musakani Magatama, or just a themed Destruction Jammer more-so...
The original Cryo-Shield was actually...

Kinda tried to make the Face-Down Attack thing sort of reminiscent to the idea of being "frozen". Plus... Darkness Approaches is one of my favorite old school cards, and the face-down attack position mechanic is something very rarely used. I created what was called a "Cryobyss" archetype, a Water Sea-Serpent archetype that used that mechanic quite effectively.
As for Reaver... yeah, the Xyz and Synchro combos are endless. Also, it turns Strategist into a +1 with an option for a Rank 4 Xyz or a General Axheth summon.
Glad you guys like em
I've always had fun making up cards to make this archetype better.
Additional Comment:
Updated the OP, to include the original "Cryo-Shield of the Ice Barrier", as well as I added a new monster... "Commander Ojex of the Ice Barrier".
Next up, working on a new spell.

I like this version a lot better for a lot of reasons. First of all, it is really cool to have "freeze" effect on there, and I think face-down attack is a great way to do it (and a neat one). Plus, I like that it's not the ripoff of Musakani. And, remaining a Counter Trap means it can't easily be chained-to, which makes it powerful.

Oh yeah definitely, looking back I totally like the original way more. I replaced the text in the OP to have the "Freeze" type Cryo-Shield.
ALSO...
Two new cards, and they'll probably be the last "exclusives" for Ice Barrier I make... but boy are they worth it.

I'll post both of these in the OP as well, for anyone just coming to see these.
