Default Marvel Annihilation

I repeat, MAJOR SPOILERS. DO NOT READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE SPOILED!!!!!!!!!

Moondragon finds out Annihilus' real plan: To use Galactus to destroy both the regular universe and the Negative Zone so that only Annihilus remains. Knowing this Thanos decides to release Galactus (which only HIS power signature can do). Meanwhile Drax has been making his way toward Thanos to kill him, getting a strange energy signature as he approaches Thanos. Thanos is about to free Galactus when Drax shows up, disables Moondragon and charges Thanos' force field. Thanos sees Death staring and him and goes "I know" at which point Drax shoves his hand through his chest and pulls his heart out. Yes, Drax shoves his hand through Thanos' chest and pulls his heart out.

THEY'VE KILLED OFF THANOS!

Wow, to think, I didn't think Marvel would have the guts to kill off a major character. Sure, Thanos is no Lex Luther or Joker, but he still comes up in many conversation circles about villains and is relatively known due to Infinity Gauntlet. And the death wasn't even the subpar third-rate hero deaths you've seen so far, but very consistent with Thanos' character, him seeing Death, and realizing it was his time.

Another great character moment, other than him revealing his whole motive for joining this war (Btw, if you were wondering? Curiosity), was on the page where he actually dies: Drax stands behind him, arm through Thanos' body, heart in his hand and Thanos' last words are "... Interesting."

Well, if this series is supposed to revive interest in Marvel's space series', they're doing a good job IMO.

Man, the many things Jackie can do with just a chair throughout his movie career are amazing.
And then you placing him in an Ikea store...That is like Unlimited Blade Works on crack for Jackie.

That is so awsome. I didnt get to read this series but I think I will have to give it a shot if they are willing to kill off Thanos.

I was surprised when I read this in my comic shop, but if anyone will come back it'll be Thanos. So it lost a lot of its impact on me in a few seconds. Still, its a big move.

I haven't really followed Annihilation. I picked up the Silver Surfer four part mini and was unimpressed so I stopped. The covers are excellent though. But I've only heard good things about Annihilation so maybe I'll pick up the reade when it comes out.

^ Of course, Thanos'll probably get revived eventually. It's the conventional "A writer did it" excuse (yeah, just replace "a wizard" with "a writer"). However, it was just badass to see Drax tear through Thanos' force field with his bare hands and then rip Thanos' heart out, not to mention the whole thing with Death. But Thanos has managed to get revived once, he'll do it again no doubt. But it's nice to see an actual major character death that isn't fake or something like that.

Default Annihilation 5, another good issue. MAJOR SPOILERS.

The beginning part with Blastaar and the space knights run a little resistance group against Annihilus and helping Richard and crew get to his flagship didn't have much bearing on the plot, but the parts that came after it was just full of awesomeness.

Drax helping the Silver Surfer free Galactus was cool, and what Galactus said was just pure badassery. "Know me Annihilus. Know me and... KNOW FEAR!"

Most of the issue is Kl'rt, Praxagora and Ronan tearing their way through House Fyiero... Who allied themselves with Ravenous. The Centurions come to help but Ronan and company barely slow down. Ronan kills Ravenous (He freaking BREAKS the Cosmic Rod over his face) with Kl'rt's and Prax's help. Ronan then kills the House Fiyero. However, Ronan then finds that the House Fiyero pretty much LOBOTOMIZED the Supreme Intelligence. He mercy kills the Supreme Intelligence and is made the Kree Emperor

I mean, dude, this series is turning out to be awesome with the MEANINGFUL deaths of characters who have actually been IMPORTANT over the years (even if they are likely to get retconned). I mean, dude, they killed off the Supreme Intelligence. Even if SI isn't as well known among people that don't read comics, his death does count as pretty big for people that know Marvel. And Ronan becoming the new Emperor is bound to stay for at least a while.

Though I do have to say, Drax got DAMN lucky with the whole energy thing, instead of just being encoded specifically for Thanos, like Thanos said it was, he was just bragging, just someone with enough power could have done it (and Thanos is very powerful). Otherwise, he would have been screwed.

And of course, this topic wouldn't be complete without the spoiler pics of the badass moments:

HE. BROKE. IT.

All I can say is, I just can't wait to see how this all ends.

Default HA, Nice anti-jobbing on Silver Surfer's part (Heralds of Galactus spoilers)

Seriously, the Annihilation series of books have been consistently and immensely awesome. Annihilation: Heralds of Galactus continues to be good with only the second issue. First we have a nice bit of exposition with Firelord, and then we have a history of the beginning of the Universe told by Galactus, and then the Silver Surfer goes on to do a nice bit of anti-jobbing for a change by taking down two Galactus-level threats. The art is simply AMAZING, plus Galactus's dialogue is nothing short of great.

Pics of the fight and aftermath:
