Raid Deck Discussion
The WoW TCG features a 'Raid' system of play where one TCG player puts together a 'Raid' deck for multiple other players to play against with their normal decks (According to UDE, a a mear 3 players are able to a Raid deck, if customized to beat such a deck).
If these players pwn the owner of the raid deck, they a presented with the Trasure Pack, an exclusive booster pack with rare cards in it which are not considered as part of the base set (This 'treasure pack' comes with a loot deck, which will be released in mid-november)
Doesn't this seem pretty bull to you? I mean, you PAID for the darn deck, so shouldn't you be able to keep the treasure booster for yourself?
Oh, and the first Raid Deck features Onyxia.
(Any other discussion on raid decks should go here =3 )

Of course you can keep it for yourself. What they're referring to there is likely the way they plan to do Raid Tournaments.

They also stated that the "treasure" cards will be availible through the point system, so you do not have to buy the Raid box to get the "treasure" items you want.

It was also said that the treasure cards are vest suited for multiplayer or raids, so the cards shouldnt be overpowered in normal guys.
That stops people just buying a heap of these for the treasure cards.

omg the thought of a raid tournament makes me jump up and down in anticipation!!
how do u think an event like that would work? would u bring ur own team of friends to fite the raid deck? or do u think they would put u into random groups? maybe they set u up by class?

Onxia is really only ment to be played as an event all on it's own, or for fun outside of tournaments. 3-5 players are need to take on just one Onxia deck that has it's own play style. I am hoping to get really good at this game and convince our local store owner to let me play the Onxia deck for others to try and win prizes from the store.

Raid decks serve several purposes. First you have to consider that any ccg is a buisness. What better way to earn more money for your company then have another item players could purchase. However there are some benefits. They could have made raid decks just for tournaments, and I dont know about you guys but there aren't many Upper Deck sanctioned tournment stores around me. So its gives players some more availability. However as time goes on I see tournaments probably giving out unique treasure boosters (or cards) as rewards as the game moves on.

My friends and I are going to play against the raid deck at gen con. Since the levels move up by resources can anyone say Cruel hand Of Timmy? lol.

IIRC from what I heard, she changed stages when you beat the existing stage.
Note, Cruel Hand of Timmy is still a good idea, since her Stage 3 hero ability is 20, flip: win.

for those who haven't seen the spoiler (obtained from: wowtcgdb)
Onyxia has 3 stages (beat one, then the next one shows up)
-1st stage : 20 health; + 1 ATK while attacking; 10, Flip Onyxia: destroy target hero
-2nd stage: 30 health; + 2 ATK while attacking (Long-Range); 2, Flip Onyxia: put a Whelp into play for each resource you have
-3rd stage : 50 health; + 3 ATK while attacking; 20, Flip Onyxia: destroy all opposing heroes
raid deck consist of 30 ability cards and 30 "event" cards (used kinda like Quests as resources if I'm not mistaken)
raid deck's treasure pack contains 10 cards (out of 33)
so even at stage 1, she's already deadly (someone in the party could possibly die if you don't kill her quickly before turn 10). then you have another 10 turns to kill her before stage 3's ability is activated, where she'll simply wipe the party. ppl have already suggested that cards like Cruel hand of Timmy and Lobotomize will help (since they destroy resources) but it might take a while to setup, and Onyxia does have abilities and events to keep us busy.

in that case, I don't think the Raid deck user is gonna activate Onyxia's ability anytime soon if Valthak's around. since time is of the essence when battling her, I'm thinking more low cost allies should be used. unfortunately, I couldn't find any info regarding the stats of the Whelp tokens she creates (hopefully nothing more than 3/3) because that might need some consideration as well.

Does Onyxia have any base ATK power? Or is she like other Heroes where you have to use a Weapon?

no. she has no base ATK power. she relies on that ATK bonus she gets when attacking (see my post above) and the numerous crazy abilities and events. I notice most of her abilities only boosts her ATK while attacking and sometimes depends on her current stage (1,2 or 3), so the raid party can pretty much whack her around w/o much repercussion while she's defending.
also, as far as I know the Whelp tokens don't have Protector either (I could be wrong though, so we'll just have to wait and see). but keep in mind, her abilities and the event cards affect the whole party (at least most of 'em), so unless you can get your weapons out fast or churn out as many allies as possible, it'll definitely be a tough battle.

I find it slightly amusing that we pretty much know everything mechanics-wise about Onyxia EXCEPT the Whelps, only what makes em.

and now we due thanks to Gen-con,
they are 1/1 toten monsters.
few more things the deck does that we did not know about:
a full 60 card deck + 30 Event cards + a bunch of whelp cards is what you get in the Raid Kit.
Each turn that Onyxia gets she gets to draw X number of cards at the start of her turn, where X = the current stage she is on. So stage one, one card Stage two, two cards, stage 3 three cards.
DoT and other ongoing attached cards on her stay attached between stages, but no overflow damage, i.e. she is at 2 life left on stage one, a hero hits her for 4 damage the extra 2 damage does not get applied to stage 2.
From the small amout of coverage on thier main site as my posting this, no one has yet taken down the dragon, many have gotten close on stage 2 but not quite there yet. And they have ran many of them side byside all day an Thursday.

wow. after reading the gen con so cal coverage, onyxia's even harder than I thought. I'm thinking it should be a 4 man team against her, a main tank (warrior preferably), melee support (pally, shaman, rogue or hunter I guess), caster for DoTs (and perhaps crowd control against whelps) and a healer.
I think warlocks could be useful with their Curse of Agony, Rain of Fire and Shadow Bolt. Horde also has access to Mias the Putrid and Fianna Spellbinder to control Onyxia's hand. also, I believe since the whelps are tokens (they don't go to the GY if destroyed), Kaal Soulreaper and Spirit Healer should provide you with enough allies for a full scale assault.
