I agree that Attributes and Types should get more generic support. The only concern here is that the already established archetypes will likely abuse the support. Imagine a Swap Frog for every Attribute... just think on that for a moment.

Anyways, I think it'd be cool if Konami established a sort of playstyle for each Attribute.

Earth - Stronger defensively, with an emphasis on Flip Effects (lots of 1900, 2000, and 2100 DEF Level 3's and 4's)
Fire - Based on burning Life Points (Monsters have a lot of quick-fire effects like Fire Trooper and Volcanic Slicer).
Water - Based on bouncing cards back to the hand (think Swap Frog, etc.)
Wind - Spinning cards back to the deck (Raiza, for example).
Dark - Summoning from Grave
Light - No idea lol

Attribute doesn't work like civilisation (duel masters) or color (mtg)

They don't have any specific strategy even if Wind is more a bounce S/T attribute than Earth, Fire is burn (now it's 200 def or screw you), water is stall and discard,...

Light isn't really LP boost. Fairy is supposed to be LP boost. More or less.

Earth isn't related to Flip or high defense. Rock is supposed to be high defense an annoying Flip monster.
