[Need Advice] No contact for one week after dropping off resume; should I inquire?
I dropped off my resume to a doctor's office last Wednesday (7/25), due to a forwarded email from my advisor saying that a doctor's clinic was hiring a medical aide.
Now, I didn't hear anything for a while, so I called yesterday (7/31), acting as someone who hadn't applied yet, asking them if the position was still available. The receptionist said she didn't have omnipotent knowledge of all the hirings, but to the best of her knowledge, resumes / applications were still being accepted.
I then asked her where the doctors might be in the entire process, and the receptionist said that some people have come in for interviews.
So my question is, would it be appropriate to contact either the receptionist through phone again, on Friday or next Monday? Would it be appropriate to contact the doctor via email? If so, when would be a good time?
I don't want to seem like I'm pushy or trying to jump the gun, or anything like that, by contacting them.
Not sure how many people on Pojo have encountered any situations like this, but hey, might as well try asking.

Wow, a real world scenario. This could be a problem.
Joking aside, was there a cut off date for giving in applications? if so you're probably best waiting until then. If they are in the process of interviews, it would make sense for them to have contacted you, to arrange a date and time or to at least tell you no thanks.
I would give it another week tops and if you haven't heard anything, make an enquiry. You said you dropped it in on the 25th which is only a week ago. It usually takes time for these things to get moved through the system so not hearing anything for a week is perfectly reasonable. People do things at different speeds though. If there is a cut off, wait for that date (or near that date, they won't (or at least shouldn't) be making decisions before the cut off. If there isn't a cut off, give it another week or so and enquire then.
Hope that helps and good luck.

Thanks! I just hate waiting for either a positive or negative call, because it makes me feel like I can't do anything but wait by the phone with a pen in hand ready to write down whatever interview specifics.
And there wasn't a cutoff date given in the forwarded email; rather, the email was sent out to the entire listserv population on the 23rd, which was the Monday before the Wednesday I dropped off my resume.
I'll probably wait until next Tuesday or Wednesday then, to inquire further. Thanks for the advice!

I'm not a fan of waiting either but there isn't much else you can do. Hopefully you'll hear back though. Glad I could help.

Yes, and do it at least once a week until they say they're no longer hiring. That shows you're interested in the job.

While tempting, I think this shows that one is more of a nuisance than something positive.

Some people would see this as an annoyance more than an interest. Yes, it does show you're interested but at the same time, it would get annoying after a few days. You need to contact them smartly, for example if you know they are processing a form then don't ask them every day if they have processed it. Give them a week to make progress before contacting them.
Anyway, I know I'm a little late (been on holiday) but how did it go?

I don't think I would even bother enquiring. If they were that interested in you, they would have contacted you already.
You know, all the 'don't phone us, we'll phone you' bit. Even though they don't say it, it's pretty much a 'given' when you apply for a job that if they don't get back to you, it means you missed out.
Ring them, by all means. It doesn't hurt to ask, but leave it for a few more days.

Depends on who the hiring person is. Some see it each way. I see it as someone desiring the position who will want to work hard.
If I tell someone the position is already filled, or that we're no longer accepting applications, and they persist, that's when they become a nuisance.
OR if I tell them a specific date that I will be making the decision, and they still continue to call, then they will have become a nuisance.
I would prefer to hear someone is interested in the job... I'll get those people who are interested and call in an interview before others, provided they don't *become* a nuisance to me. They have to remember that I have other things to do than hire people.
Oops didn't realize this thread was that old. How did it go? Find a job?

LOL Neither did I.
Curse me for thinking that just because a thread is on the top of a forum must mean it is new.
I never check the dates of posts. lol

My bad on that, I went away on holiday just before the thread was posted, commented and thought I'd see if there had been any developments now I'm back.

Hey! Didn't realize there was that much interest, lol.
They contacted me on August 5th (a Sunday) asking me if I had time that day to discuss the job offer. However, it had already been about 1 1/2 weeks since I submitted my resume, and I was away in another town visiting my friend. So they said no problem, and to email them back with a good time to meet during the weekend. However, I sent them an email that same day (8/5), and when they replied a week later (a freakin' week!), they said they already filled all their open positions. WTF!
So fast forward 10 days later to 8/15, and the doctor emails me saying they have an open position. Apparently, one of the people they hired had some issues with close-to-minimum-wage pay, and got fired following an argument.
So I went in as soon as I could, and I got the job without even asking me a single interview question!!
tl;dr?: I got the same job I applied for, under weird and lucky circumstances lol.
