I would go back pre-World War II and shoot Hitler before he became a mad man for power and would be remembered as the greatest German leader ever.
So my people could be shown as great for once, instead of evil.
Maybe also take care of Mussolini.

My Gosh the future would be so different if Hitler died like that. Weird to even think about. Makes you wonder stuff like. When would the Atomic Bomb be made and who would use it against who before everyone crapped their pants and decided to hold them back.

As a person who comes from a father who is in love with History, and recently after making up a year of World History in school, I've become ingrossed with the subject. Makes you think a lot more. Makes you wonder. The world would be a LOT different if things happened like this. Oh well. We'll really never know.

If people went back in time to kill dictators... more will probably rise... you never know what can motivate a person such as Hitler to do what he did...

Yeah, it's common fact that more will rise. But that was my thoughts on what I'd use a time machine for. If Hitler DID die before WWII ever started, he would be remembered as one of the greatest leaders of the world. But you never know what could of come out of that, IE another ruler harsher than him (Aka Stalin but that's another story).

Given the general mood and the prevalent belief systems among not only Germans but among Westerners in general after the Great War, I doubt you could stop Hitler by killing him; heck, you might only quicken the end of the Weimar Republic by doing so.
In other words, the world was doomed to another war as soon as the Versailles treaty was concluded with no Eighteen Points in sight.

That makes sense, but I think in this infinite universe some being has already (if possible) made a time machine. And that moment in time becomes the earliest possible time to go back to.
I'd like to go back and see the Roman empire in it's prime, meet Caesar, see tha amzing sights. I'd also like to go back to the revolutionary war era and see some of the founding fathers at work, especially Ben Franklin and Thomas Jefferson.

If I remember my history correctly the Atomic Bomb was made in World War 1, Hitler was part of World War 2. So it'd already still be there even if Hitler got shot earlier.

Well I wouldn't be surprised if it did but then again, with no need for the Manhattan project, those brilliant minds may have never met with such a terrible goal.
But maybe there would still be a need. Maybe not, but we still discover it. Only God knows.

... Um that doesn't make him any less a terrible person... Unless you subscribe to some bizarre object morality/ no morality at all, it's hard to deny he was a horrendous person.

How do I explain this in a way that makes sense.
There are a few basic laws of physics. For this one, two are particularly important:
- Preservation of mass/energy: Nothing can be created or destroyed. This is a fact. Things can only be changed from one form to another.
- Universal gravitation: Everything in the universe gravitates towards everything else in the universe.
The first prevents time travel because, in effect, you're still getting mass (yourself) out of nowhere. Saying from the future isn't valid because your mass will be carried on anyway.
Another problem would be what if one didn't go back? The correct version of yourself wouldn't be there to go back in time.
The most pressing problem comes from the universal gravitation problem. Just being in the universe for an instance would alter every particle in the universe ever so slightly. No big deal? Well the matter that composes you will also be changed slightly. Then when the slightly altered version of you goes back in time, he/she also changes the universe. The changes would be cumulative so it would just keep building up. Eventually the changes would build up so that they're substantial enough to prevent you going back in time in the first place, causing a paradox. It's a bit like reverb when you have a mic next to a speaker. The change keeps building up until something eventually breaks.

I think National Geographic explored the possibility of time travel without necessarily breaking Lavoisier (can I half a cookie?)... but then I don't know if Magueijo's proposal of speedier light in the early universe respects the law of conservation.
Wait here.

The last time they attempted to break the speed of light, time slowed down around the particle to compensate.

We've already fully explained how Time travel is not possible on the last page.
I think people realize that now, We're just pretending it's possible for the sake of good conversation.

Keep in mind that these laws and theorys are only for the known universe.

Yeah but that is still a form of Time Travel.
If they broke the light barrier it is very likely you could move fast enough to slow time around you.
I believe the possibility of traveling forward in time because of this is possible.
The idea of traveling backwards in time to me is not possible.

That is something interesting, I never consider an alien time machine lol. Then again, the idea of aliens exist is another bizarre idea to some people, but I will take my chances with probability and the vast size of the universe, to say they do exist.

It's extremely Improbable. So much so that the universe's size is almost irrelevant.
Life it's self starting up on another planet is etremely unlikely in it's self. BUT life that has intelligence comparable to ours/greater?
Trust me, if you knew how unlikely that was. You would never be caught saying

This may sound like some complete rubbish I heard somewhere about a theory, where it isn't your body that travels but rather your conscience or memory. This again does go back to the fact your body had to exist at the time on a level to comprehend it enough too.
Again, though may be utter rubbish o.o
