If you could erase a memory would you do it? Wired talks about the possibility
Wired magazine released an article about the possibility of selective memory loss, (heres a link to their web article)
http://www.wired.com/magazine/2012/0...tingpill/all/1
So would you take it? Do you think its right/wrong?
Personally, I wouldn't mind forgetting a thing or two

I wouldn't forget anything important. For example, if I somehow had a T.V. show spoiled or something, I'd forget that. But my memories make me who I am.

I belive that I'm too young to have the need to forget something. In the future, who knows.

Isn't this how the apes took over in the latest Planet of the Apes movie? Listen everybody! Grab a gun or some sharp object and go kill those scientists before they unknowingly unleash hell upon us.

it's easy to say "I'd like to forget this bad memormy" but you know what they say..."those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it" and you never know if that bad memormy can make you stronger and teach someone else ether not to do it or impact someone else that had a sililar experiene so...I say no, I would not want to erase any memormy, good or bad

Ditto, but my skin is a bit too thick for me to get embarrassed by most things, and so far in the past year or so I have to say the only thing I'd like to forget would be the time I accidentally left my GTA IV game stuffed in my bed and figured someone else lost it, bought it again a few months later, and then found the original copy a short while afterwards. Considering it was at the time my absolute favorite game that left a bit of an aftertaste, as stupidly petty as it may seem. Otherwise, I have little to no problem with most of my memories, since like you guys said your memories are a big part of your character.

Seems like a controversial topic, personally I feel like I would probably forget a couple things, I mean it couldn't have too too much of an effect just forgetting a few bad memories. However, I do feel like some people could go overboard because after all it is our past experiences that make us who we are today.

I'd never forget anything. Painful memories serve as powerful teachers.

Memories stay in our mind, to remove a memory would be to remove a piece of us.
For that reason, I wouldn't.

I wouldn't want to forget a memory myself. What I, and sure most would, really want is to have other people who share that memory forget whatever embarrassing thing I did.

I would erase everybody else's memory and proclaim myself as emperor of earth.

How will you talk them into accepting your self-proclaimed position if they don't know **** about who you are (or depending on how far you went, what the word "emperor" even means)?

I can tell them. I'll be the only source of knowledge, so their options will be limited. I also have knowledge at my disposal. The entire population of earth could not support itself without technology. They'd starve to death eventually.
Or I could go the whole way and just turn them into mindless husks, killing them one by one for my amusement.

Killing or sexually assaulting mindless husks is as boring as dismembering a carcass, they gotta scream and writhe to get me aroused.

Wimminz are genetically programmed to produce sandwiches at birth, it's all they're good for.

Nobody.
Or I could train one of my husks to do something productive.
In fact, that would be fun. I could train them up and build my own zombie empire.

Why would I sexually assault anything, let alone a mindless husk. I'm a sadist, not a rapist.

Everyone is a sex offender at heart, they either deny their urges, are afraid of the law, or are too busy menstruating and having more fat than muscle to try and attempt anything unless they're incarcerated already.
/thread
I also think you'd probably want to watch your back. Wouldn't want the brainless amnesiacs gettin' too starved to tell their Jesus apart and feasting on your flesh after you overwork them.

I'm a very unsexed individual. I'm sexually inactive and my urges are virtually nonexistent. And then there are my friends who look like this after the summer holidays.
Yeah, some plate steel armour will do the trick. They're too stupid to get through it.
And I have 7,000,000,000 different husks to choose from. Why would I overwork just a few?

I didn't specify a number there, boyo.
But damn, you sound like I was when I went through that one phase of erectile dysfunction a few weeks back, sucked ass man. These days I'll pop boners to everything, every half-hour.

I don't have ED lol. I have full body control for some reason. I can alter my mood at will, choose when to feel pain, control sexual urges and I have a little bit of control over my body temperature.
I'm still working on sweat production though, along with a few other thing.
One cannot be a master of anything until he is a master of his mind's domain.

Can do all of those things except for controlling my sexual urges. If it weren't for the fear of being snitched on fornicating with minors or hookers I'd have gone the extra step already :/
