I remember when Toonami was in it's prime in the early 2000's I also used to watch Tenchi Muyo! besides Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, and Gundam Wing (which was decent but G Gundam was better though).

I saw an [adult swim] commerical recently saying that Code Gaess is returning to it's original time slot after 2 episode reruns of Inuyasha, Fullmetal Alchemist, and 1 new episode of Bleach around 11:30 p.m. - 1 or 2 a.m. Though since tomorrow is the BK winner selection ordeal I think it'll be next Saturday when that schedule goes into action.

I heard there was an English dub for Ikkitousen: Dragon Destiny known in the U.S. as the title series "Battle Vixens" and was surprised that it never aired on Adult Swim recently. It's sort of like a mix of Yu Yu Hakusho and Sailor Moon.

yeah but Ikkitousen tends to have some suggestive sexual nature within the fights that kinda almost define r@pe ....

Adult Swim is more than likely gonna pass......

On a much BETTER note:

Mushi-shi is awesome on Hulu.com.

I'll be getting it once it's in a box set.

Oh God, Superjail is just messed up literally. It's like The Misadventures of Flapjack and Metalocalypse rolled into one and I never did like those shows at all. Infact just watching Superjail reminded me of watching the music video for "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead.

I've seen better with Ren & Stimpy, The Brother's Grunt, MTV's Liquid Television, Invader Zim, Animaniacs, Super Milk Chan, and Perfect Hair Forever. Now those shows are made of epic win...

Remember FOX Kids when they used to air The Tick, X-Men and Spider-Man Animated Series, Bobby's World, Life with Louie, Tazmania, and Beakman's World. God those were the good old days wasn't it?

I don't get why Adult Swim hates Anime, I mean they put some of their best Anime series in the worst blocks possible expecting people to watch them when they're asleep at the crack of dawn and they still show crap on TV late at night around 11 to Midnight which is bull.

I don't want InuYasha reruns or FMA reruns, I want new legitimate English dub anime that pwns in the face and so far all we have is Code Geass and Crayon Shin Chan. That's it seriously folks, I'm still surprised that Gurren Lagann isn't aired on Adult Swim as it's aired on Sci-Fi's Ani-Monday block instead which is fail.

Well I'll give CN credit Johnny Test is kinda appealing to me, as is Total Drama Island, and one of my favorite anime series Pokemon is still being aired after Toonami's downfall which I'm glad CN is still airing new Pokemon episodes.

The Dynamite Action Squad block on Cartoon Network isn't bad really, you got Pokemon Diamond & Pearl: Battle Dimension, Ben 10: Alien Force, and some crap show I probably wouldn't care about. But If they expand their shows more they could be the new Toonami, ya never know...

Default Who killed Cartoon Network?

I'm sure many of you remember the good old days when Cartoon Network was a respectable network, with clever and original shows that had both witty and nonsensical slapstick humor. My childhood was composed of some of the best toons the TV had to offer, including Johnny Bravo, Dexter's Lab, Time Squad, Freakazoid (best show EVER), Ed Edd 'n Eddy, and many, many more as well as the classics like Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, etc. etc. It even had Toonami, which got me hooked on DBZ, and subsequently all things Japanese, and eventually made me who I am today. However, compare that to todays line-up:

Camp Lazlo - How the hell did "Raj" get through the censors when Cow and Chicken was bad for having visible butts? OMG it's ok to hate foreigners, but nobody should know they have an ass!! Racism good, ass bad...WTF

Juniper Lee - I don't know if it's even still on, but apparently all Asians have the last name 'Lee' and know martial arts. Racism FTW. Aside from that the show sucks ass.

Tickle U - If the name doesn't sound gayer than Richard Simmons in a Leotard with nipple holes riding a Unicycle , I don't know what is. I'm only glad I never watched it, or Richard Simmons with said parafenalia...

Ben 10 - After Teen Titans went the way of the gay, I don't know who decided it would be better to put an even gayer show on with the same animation style, and an even lamer "power" (if you can even call having 10 aliens do all the fighting for you a power).

My Gym Partner's a Monkey - I don't watch anything with a talking animal, unless it's Looney Tunes. Absolute crap. Same goes for that cartoon with the squirrel.

Re-animated - Whoever thought a show about a kid on acid and shrooms that sees cartoons running around would be a good idea should die a painful death.

Chowder - Yeah, let's just copy Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends because that show had mild success... And wtf is a "Chowder?"

Fried Dynamite - Seriously, just put Cartoon Cartoon Fridays back on the air because I'm seriously going to kill that damn kid...

The Misadventures of Flapjack - A decent cartoon, but it's similar to the new generation of Spongebob in that its humor is unoriginal and it's teaching kids to be sissies. And any show that makes pirates look queer can burn in hell...

Am I the only one that's annoyed by the fact that none of the kids nowadays are gonna grow up with anything decent to watch on TV? I mean seriously I bet in a few years we'll have a generation of sissy children that think the world's a loving place where everyone shares the exact same set of crappy morals and bad things only happen to bad people. They won't even think for themselves because the crap they're watching on TV is so bad it doesn't even encourage independant thought.

You forgot to mention the fact that Cartoon Network is no longer a 24-hours animated channel. Goosebumps and Beethoven do NOT belong on CN under ANY circumstances. However, if they wanted to put on **** cartoons, it would be okay because it is animated and the freakin' station is called Cartoon Network...

Looks like it has to be said again:

The reason the cheap crap is produced is because it's just that: Cheap. I don't know what the numbers are, but Tom & Eric, Squidbillies, etc. have consistently proven to be more cost effective than more quality shows. It's also a heck of a lot easier to show reruns of popular anime than it is to get new seasons.

Getting a new, foreign show is expensive as hell. First, you have to purchase the rights. Then you have to pay for the localization. Then, you have to pay for dubbing and all the technical stuff that entails. Adult Swim may not pay for all of that directly, depending on how the contract is drawn up, but they still have to pay the people who get that done.

Translating a series that used to have a lot of subtleties and cultural shoutouts can be hell, which is why so many animes get butchered during localization. Very few people outside of Japan know what a tanuki is, or the mythology behind it, but Americans are very familiar with raccoons. Very few Americans are knowledgeable about the three great imperial treasures or the legend of Susano-O, but it's something Japanese children are taught about in kindergarten. Also, heaven forbid a show likes to use puns, especially visual ones. Those just don't translate at all. Taking all of that and just putting it into a form is hard and time consuming.

Scanlators and fansubbers make it look easy, but that's generally because they either are native Japanese, or have a very deep insight into the culture. They treat it as a hobby and do not, usually, charge for their services simply because they enjoy doing it. Many production companies don't have that luxury.

How is that racist? People with Indian backgrounds DO exist in the world. And you can't compare a race issue with an indecent exposure issue. Apples and oranges.

Again, I don't see where you're getting an argument. That in no way implies that all Asians have the last name 'Lee' and know martial arts. If anything the name is a reference to Bruce, who is known in modern culture as a famous martial artist.

I don't know any straight people that could have come up with an analogy like that.

Your opinion. Moot point. Heck, this whole topic is opinionated with barely any objective arguments...

Chowder is a kind of soup.

Yeah, I'm annoyed that our kids are more than likely going to grow up watching bad cartoons. Is this a big deal in the wide scope of things? No, because kids aren't supposed to learn the core of their morals from cartoons. Parents kind of do play a role in that also. Just raise your kids right and you won't have to worry about them learning crappy morals or whatever. "I mean seriously I bet in a few years we'll have a generation of sissy children that think the world's a loving place where everyone shares the exact same set of crappy morals and bad things only happen to bad people." You make it seem like you want kids in this target audience (what, 10 and under?) to learn about sex, drugs and violence before they've hit puberty. What kind of childhood would that be? "They won't even think for themselves because the crap they're watching on TV is so bad it doesn't even encourage independant thought." There are these things called books, you can have your kids read them.

Yeah. The Cartoon Network has lost it's steam over the past few years now. I used to enjoy watching the cartoons they had on there like 'Dexter's Lab and so on and plus the Toonami segment which ended two weeks ago(Boy...Those were the good old days for sure.Lol). The cartoons or other stuff these kids watch nowadays has become very bad indeed. They watch this stuff so much that it seems like their brains were lost somewhere in space.

Busterslash said a lot of what I wanted to say. But to expand, You gotta put things in perspective..

In general, when I rewatched some of the cartoons I used to like, I didn't enjoy them very much. Most of the enjoyment I did garner from them came from remembering how much I liked them however long ago. I watched DBZ and Ed Edd n Eddy a few weeks ago and thought they were unwatchable. Even Scooby Doo wasn't nearly as great as I remember it being.

I would agree that CN did have a few shows that are still good today... Dexter's Lab (which incidentally I can't refer to as "Dexter" anymore because of the HBO show) and Cow and Chicken stand out. But I dunno, maybe it's just "Growing up" and growing out of the target audience.

As far as I can see, CN is just trying to appeal to different people. Before they did that with a mix of old and new cartoons, now they have newish and non cartoon shows.

Even if it has gone down slightly in quality, you can't objectively judge the current shows they air with the ones you used to watch. My cousin is 9 and loves Ben 10 and most other shows on CN as much as I liked the ones I watched, so I guess whatever they're doing is working.

It's just not fair to try to compare this show with Ren & Stimpy and all the other past gems. Yes, I've been through the Liquid Television age, and even saw the bizzaroness of what they used to show on Night Flight.

The thing is though that none of these shows are going to resurface and shine again like they used to. Their tales are done. Superjail was actually a breath of "strong colonge" compared to the crummy things we have now. We can't hope for any new shows to top the legends, and that probably will never happen, but we can always welcome anyone who dares to make a close attempt and give them a good few pats on the back for trying.

Superjail was interesting yet again.....

To use a man like a bow and fling his body like an arrow just astounds me....
You don't even see that in Tom & Jerry....

44 Nights of Orel....
I love the riff they did on Tim & Eric...
