Does anyone else remember Ampharos as being awesome in G/S/C? He was one of my favorite Pokemon, but I feel that this generation, he hasn't made the leap very well...

Static
Modest 252 HP 252 Special Attack 4 S.Def
_Focus Blast
_Thunderbolt
_Power Gem
_Signal Beam/ HP Grass/Water

Basic Specs set...Takes advantage of his strongest and most diverse special attacks. If you feel the need, and hate Focus Blast, switch it up with the HP. HP and Sdef EVs because you aren't gonna be outspeeding anything with Ampharos, evar.

Quiet 252 HP / 252 Sp.ATK / 4 S.Def
_Focus Punch
_Thunder Wave
_Thunderbolt
_HP: Ice / Grass

This is an option if you hate Focus Blast, and predict switches well. Thunder Wave is nice for status support. If you would like Focus Punch to hit even harder, you can take out some HP EVs for Attack, but there is no real reason, as Focus Punch hits like a truck anyway.

As suggested by Near, the above set with Focus Punch needs more Attack EVs to be a successful user of Focus Punch. He has suggested:

Ampharos@Leftovers
Mild
252 Attack 196 Sp.Attack 60 HP

_Thunderbolt
_HP Grass
_Focus Punch
_Thunderwave

Frankly, if you're going to put Focus Punch without touching Amphy's attack,
you're better off running Focus Blast.

Keep in mind that HP Ice is an option over HP Grass.
