Hello there, I recently picked up a copy of each Pokemon Black and White.. I opted to go with Black first finishing it in about a week, I transfered my old HGSS team to have a crack at the meta at my locals, my locals is pretty up to date with the meta (And if memory recalls not many people have access too 'locals' my locals is a weekly gathering at a local pop-culture shop we get about 30 people down, various prizes are given out usually random event pokemon or ev's or real life stuff ((Plushs and Dvd's and that)We get a good turnout (About 20-35 people on average) it happens 2 or sometimes even 3 times a week we also have a big library tournament here, our local library runs a tournament (outside the Meta, no banlist..) Or prizes, this is fortnightly. This is my first Report and please Bare in mind this is my first week back after a LONG hiatus, Not knowing the meta or barely any movesets on the new pokemon...
The Team I Took was:
Whiscash@Leftovers
Adamant.
252Atk/252Spd/6Hp
Stone Edge/Aqua Tail/Zen Headbutt/Earthquake
Heatran@Choice Scarf
Modest.
252Sp.Atk/252Spd/6Hp
Flamethrower/Earth Pulse/Dark Pulse/Substitute(Filler)
Celebii@Leftovers
Bold.
252Def/252SDef/6Hp
Standard Toxic Orb Breloom
Swords Dance/Seed Bomb/Substitute/Focus Punch
Standard Non-Sleeptalk Suicune
Surf/Sub/Ice Beam/Cm
Standard Anti-Meta Gengar :D
Match 1: Mitchell.
Mitchell was an old regular and a close friend of mine.. He always seemed to get legit shiny egg's without trying and I knew he would be up too date with the Meta.. He had the advantage of knowing my team.
He leads with a Metagross which I snipe down quickly with Whis.. I then easily plow down a Gengar and Sandslash in progressiom but then he switches into a Scraggy which I had no answer for, setting up and Crunching and Drain Punching all through my team..
0-1
Match 2: J.D.
A new face but a friendly one, a young korean boy who just moved here with his family, he knew about EV's and everything so I knew he was gonna be competitive...
He leads with A T-tar and laughs at my Whiscash Lead.. I lower it too low red with EQ, wiping the smile of his face, he switches into a Gliscor with PSN heal, I didn't know this thing existed and was so confused, I use Aqua Tail to see how I fare getting a OHKO. He then switches into a Gengar, I idiotically switch into Heatran and erupt into a destiny bond :\ Oh well, I then switch into Suicine, he switches into something (I forget) then switches into a Ferrothorn as I surf, this thing is annoying.. Obviously a grass/steel by it's colouring I switch out too Celebi, Which I thought was my best counter.. Turns into a half stall war until I opt in for my Breeloom and Sub up, Focus punching his switch in and leaving out his Ferrothorn which breaks my sub with a new move I forgot.. I switch into Suicune and get an Ice beam away which manages a freeze! I switch back into Breeloom and set up for the win.
1-1
Match 3: Pierce
Another Familiar face, Pierce always use to run the best possible OU team So I knew I was in for a fierce match up, this was a bit of grudge match for me as well, seeing as Pierce was the guy who least beat me before I quit :@
He leads with an Infernape.. I opt too EQ it as an Aqua Tail wouldn't hit as many switch on targets I assume, He fakes out, rinse and repeat down to 1 health holding on with sash, he CC's but then I Zen headbutt it for Ko, he switched into something else that I ko'd with Whiscash again but then Whiscash falls to a Virizion, I had no idea what this thing was and assumed by appearance it was Grass type, opting for Heatran forcing a switch.. I don't remember much more but I finished 3-0 after KOing Virizion with Gengar's Destiny Bond after a 15 minute stall war between our Celebi's.
2-1
Match 4: New guy.
I didn't know this guy at all, Nor did he introduce himself.
He lead Mienshao, I knew this was fighting from watching a friend fight after my early finish in round 1, I go EQ after the first fake out lowering it too low yellow, I then opt for Zen headbutt but get Ko'd from U-Turn he goes into Victini so I get out my Suicune preparing to wall but get final gambited which I thought was an interesting 1 for 1 move. I switch into Gengar to Shadow ball his switched in Mienshao, Gengar then proceeds a fairly easy sweep.
3-1
Match 5: Drew.
Drew was another old regular.. He always had odd sets so I didn't expect anything different, I was considering switching Whiscash for one of my two side poke's in metagross but opted not too..
Deoxys lead. Gets a ko on Whiscash but Gengar Revenge kills, into Rotom-W a familiar foe at last! into Celebi who psychics, Drew seems to take forever in thinking of a possible move. He ends up switching to a Jirachi, Incomes Suicune I sub up and calm mind as he Body slams then gets a switch into a Breloom which I ice beam away no troubles, Once again He takes forever in picking his next move but goes for Rotom-W I figure not to waste the CM's and Sub so I ice beam then switch into idiotically switch into Heatran.. I go for Gengar as fodder due to low hp from Deoxys then into Celebi to stall out with psychic he throws out a Latios.. which D meteors me Im down to Breloom and Suicune, I go with Breloom and get D meatored again.. I go suicune as he goes gyara, I sub and CM as he bounces after a few dances, inflicting me good damage but I ice beam and get him to high red.. predicting the first turn of bounce I CM and get ready for the last bounce as I ice beam him down to two pokemon, Latios is back out I ice beam it for a OHKO and in comes Jirachi his last pokemon, He subs up, I ice beam and the sub fades I begin to think a stall war is gonna start I ice beam again but get parahaxed from a body Slam, he then Iron heads me for the K-O
3-2
Final Thoughts:
A lovely battling session, not bad for using an Anti-Meta team from a different Meta.. I enjoyed learning about the new pokemon and what not.. I honestly thought I would do worse but Im happy with the way I went, 3-2 isn't so bad on return to the Meta.. I ended up topping 5th out out of 27 people (top of the 2 losses..) After the tournament I swap some old pokemon acquiring a few newies and also learn about Scraggy and other pokemon! :) Makes me want to create a whole new Anti-Meta team, I get my top 8 prize, a Tepig plushie then after a few more trades.. leave.
Props:
