Secret Base: What type of trainer are you?

I'm sure we all know that by mixing records through link you can visit your pals secret base and challenge them.

What I didn't know was that the character appears like an ingame trainer instead of a player character. My female Sapphire character is a picknicker and my male Ruby one a bug catcher...

First I'd like to know if it's a constant(maybe has something to do with the base's location?) or depends on the player and secondly if it's depends I'd like to know what you appear as in your friend's game.

My cousin's female Ruby character is a Lass :p

In any case thanks Wob! I checked the calculator, if my character had been female (In Ruby) it would have been a student trainer instead of a Bug Catcher.

The calculator also mentionned a union room... what is that? (I'd be a Psychic there)

Oh I see... so when you enter in the Union Room you turn into another trainer?

That should be something that could happen in game too... be able to change you trainer type to gain bonuses handling certain Pokémons or something.

Anyway... one more question... my cousin can't challenge the Secret Base trainers he got by mixing records... do you need to beat the league first or do something special?

I think Undrave meant you should be able to change trainer types, even outside the Union Room. And you could gain bonuses, like if you changed your type to a Breeder trainer, your... breeding skills are better. If you changed into a Bug Catcher, then... you get the point right?:D

Exactly, like a character class with your own level and depending on your class you get certain bonuses... to make it simple and more life like you couldn't change class easily and you'd need to fullfill certain conditions before acessing a class and going from normal trainer to specialised trainer.

For exemple a Bug Catcher could have more chance at catching a Bug Pokémon (and an higher rate of meeting shineys) and his Bug could get EVs faster or more EXP.

A psychic could 'guess' attacks and thus raise his or her Psychic or Ghost Pokémon's evade slightly.

Fisherman could use more specialised fishing tools to get certain Pokémon andget bonus while battling on water.

There could be a class that boosts the level of Pokéblocks to help with contest and it could help with berry growing or something.

The class could add a personal touch to the game, but it shouldn' impact too much... it should just add to the fun.

I like this idea but I don't think we will be seeing anything like this until they come out with an RPG on a TV based system.

Well... maybe on the DS... I mean it can rival with the N64...

Maybe Blackbelt and Battle Girl could raise Fighting type's EV or something, Lass could get bonus when entering Beauty contest and student when entering Smart contest... or when raising that condition...

And I think no class should be better than the other, so you can chose what you feel like, not what makes you invicible.

It's an idea I've been thinking of for many years. Maybe Nintendo(Gamefreak) might include that feature in the upcoming pokemon games for DS, Diamond and Pearl

How about something like if you're a bug catcher,bug type attacks would become stronger?I'm amazed you guys haven't thought of it yet.. :p

Be amazed no longer:D I was thinking of that earlier today. If you were a water trainer(I forget the many names) water-type attacks would be stronger. If you were a Cooltrainer, then cool pokemon would be stronger(EX: Magikarp and Rattata) So on and so forth

I considered it, I just tought it would be too obvious... the Cool trainer idea is neat... the Cooler your Pokémon is the better it's attack could get for exemple.

Beauties go with Beauty, Hiker with Tough, etc.

After improving the Pokémon nintendo needs to improve our character beyond name and gender choosing (and decoration).

Yeah! We should be able to buy clothes and cars for our characters. Let's invite some realism into this unrealistic Pokemon world. Our characters also need a personality. Really, our main character is always mute. I want to be able to be a TR/TM/TA member. Even have the choice of joining one of those crime organizations. Then, we could steal other people's pokemon and evil/bad pokemon become more powerful. We should be able to choose to become Pokemon Researchers(not like I'd do it, but we must consider all options) Then, we can... study pokemon. I want to be able to use Gary as a main character too

Another good feature. We should be able to customize our characters. I wouldn't mind. I want my character wearing expensive clothes+jewelry

Turning evil isn't something really Pokémon-esque... would be better kept for an Online game :p same for actual job beside training.

But customising your character would be fun, more than just decorating your room or base.

And even if it wouldn't impact on anything being able to choose betweem diferent transportation beside a bike (skateboard, skates, scooter, etc ).

I never really decorated my room or Secret Base. I'm getting tired of using the bike too. I want to buy a car. I'd even like a mini-plane(that way, I won't need to waste a slot teaching a pokemon fly) And with different means of transportation, we can access different areas(like the how the two bikes of Ru/Sa are used to access different areas in the Safari Zone) Okay, I'll stop my ranting

That's true... it would be cool to be able to fly without using FLY... but Fly and Surf are really the only HM that are useful in combat. All the others are pretty much pointless.

Waterfall can be useful too, but yeah, the other HMs are horrible. Especially Flash.

Or Rock Smash or Cut...

Back in the original you could use the HM in your team (beside Flash) and keep them (there was no move deleter anyway) but now with all the new moves and all the HMs... you just can't!
