The War of Supremacy
April 27, 2071
Dear Wolfegang Lazarus,
I always thought we were friends, not enemies, but I guess that’s not to be. This was a decision I didn’t want to come to, but you have forced me. After the recent hijacking of the S.S. Aqua, and the attempted takeover of the Magnet Train of Goldenrod City, I am forced to make this decision. The unanimous 8 Gym Leaders of Johto and the Johto Elite Four, all agree that we must declare war on Kanto. I don’t want to, but I and the committee of Gym Leaders and the Elite Four, all agree that in order to ensure the safety of our citizens and fellow Pokemon Trainers, war must be declared.
Sincerely the Committee of Johto ,
Leon Lazarus, Elite Four President
Briana Matthews, Elite Four Vice President
John Ogden, Elite Four Treasurer
James Ogden, Elite Four Secretary
Ronald Friar, Violet City Gym Leader
Brittany Miller, Azalea Town Gym Leader
Jesus Columae, Goldenrod City Gym Leader
Brandi Spark, Ecruteak City Gym Leader
Ryan Matthews, Olivine City Gym Leader
Lorri Rollands, Cianwood City Gym Leader
Taylor Madison, Mahogany Town Gym Leader
Kyle Siani, Blackthorn City Gym Leader
Leon, having finished typing a document that would change Pokemon history, took a deep breath, then moved his hand to the mouse of his computer, and clicked on the print button. The computer made beeping noises, then began to send out the paper he had just typed. He looked it over, head to toe, and did a deep sigh. Leon then muttered under his breath, "I didn’t want it to come to this, but it must." He sighed again, and spun out of his chair under the computer desk. He walked over to his counter, and grabbed an envelope, then placed the document inside it. Leon then froze, and seemed to ponder something. After a short moment of silence, he licked the envelope, and closed it shut. He moaned, then looked up at his ceiling. "Lord, I hope I am doing the correct thing," he muttered in a short prayer. Then, Leon reached into his pocket and pulled out a Pokeball the size of a golf-ball. The moment the Pokeball touched his hand, it enlarged to the size of a tennis ball. Leon then pressed a button on the device, and in a flash of red light a bird was standing on the ground. It was brown, and resembled an aged owl. "Noctowl, take this letter to my brother, Wolfe…"
Leon stopped, cut off by a "’Towl!" from his bird. "You know who he is, my brother in Kanto, I know it’s a long journey but you’re my first bird, and I know you can do it," he then petted his Noctowl on the head, gave it a pat on the rear, and the owl then took off through the window. Leon sighed, and muttered, "The ultimate Pokemon battle begins here…"
Days later, on the other side of the Pokemon world, another man was sitting in a rocking chair with his eyes closed, pondering something. "I know Leon wants to declare war, because he hijacked the Magnet Train, and he wants to take over Kanto. I need some defense, but I can’t think how to defend my country. Hmmm…" he then pressed his finger on his forehead, and went into a moment of deep thought. Seconds passed, but the world seemed frozen, and he didn’t move. Suddenly, breaking the silence, a doorbell rang, startling Wolfe. He got up, and walked to the door, then slowly opened it. "Hi Wolfy! It’s Lorelei, Elite Four Vice President, I think we need to talk over things," a girl in an sparkling red dress said. Lorelei was named after her grandmother, who was also Kanto Vice President of the Elite Four, and her grandmother had specialized in ice types. The granddaughter wasn’t an ice trainer, quite the contraire, she specialized in fire, and was a master strategist.
"Oh Lorelei! Come in, come in…" Wolfegang replied to the women completely dressed in red. Lorelei was covered head to toe in red, from her skirt to her sparkling high-heels, even her glasses were outlined in bright red. "I was just thinking about what to do about our country, I’m sure Leon’s going to declare war, and we need to find a way to stop him," Wolfe stated to Lorelei.
"Well, I got an idea, and that simply goes by old saying: ‘The greatest offense is your best defense’, and I think it’s a strategy that could work," she replied to Wolfe. They both considered this option for a few moments, until their thinking was distracted by a brown owl, knocking its beak on the window.
"Uh-oh, that’s Leon’s Noctowl, I think this is it," Wolfe said. He knew of Leon’s mode of transportation, the two brothers had done such message-sending since they were boys. Then, they would send letters with Hoothoot and Pidgey, and by now the two Pokemon had evolved into their strongest stages. Wolfegang walked over to the window and opened it, took the letter from Noctowl’s grasp, and patted the owl on the back. Noctowl gave a slight hoot, then flew out the window toward the setting sun. Wolfegang opened it, and looked it over twice, then handed it to Lorelei. She then read it, and handed it back to him. Wolfegang then responded in a soft, but serious voice, "It has begun."
