anyone thinks its weird that Gyarados being a part Flying pokemon can't learn Aerial ace, yet pokemon that aren't even Flying can learn it? Whats the deal with that?
This just doesn;t make sense. Anyone else think this?

I've always thought of that. Gyarados is the only flying pokemon incapable of learning flying attacks. I've always just thought of Gyarados as a Water/Dragon type.

I've heard a rumor that Gyarados will be able to evolve in Pearl/Diamond.
But like most rumors, it's probably not true.

Coincidence! Just the other day, I was thinking of a possible Gyarados evolution. I hope it's true and Gyarados evolved form is Water/Dragon, not Water/Flying

The only Flying attack that SOME Gyarados can learn is HP: Flying, and it depends on the IVs. I had to catch a bunch of them and test each one with HP before finding one with HP FLying. Even if you get it, power is also dependent on the IVs.

The other example of a pokemon that got screwed imo is Pinsir. It doesn't learn any bug attacks but is a bug. Stupid. Again, you'd have to just try and get HP Bug if you really wanted it to have a bug attack.

Maybe they'll have evos that either reclassify these pokemon, or maybe they will finally give them an attack that matches their type, or (most likely) neither.
We'll just have to wait and see when Pearl/Diamond somes out I guess.

Got Pearl/Diamond?

Gyarados doesn't need another Evo. They can change his type.Water Dragon is better for him. Its kinda Pointless really. gettin HP-Flying 70 is too hard.

Yes, it does seem strange that they made Gyarados Water/Flying and didn't give it any Flying Attacks. They could have at least made it compatible with the Fly HM. But maybe Pearl and Diamond will introduce a few new Flying moves that Gyarados can learn . . . Incidentally, shineyaltaria, Pinsir can learn Fury Cutter via the Move Tutor in Pokemon Emerald.

As for non-Flying Pokemon learning Aerial Ace, my theory is that, when they use the move, they jump very high so it looks as though they are flying.

Actually, Gyarados was meant to be a Water/Dragon... well not sure, but that's the likely scenario. The thing is that Gyarados had the bad luck of appearing in the first Generation. Back in the RBY days, had Gyarados been a Water/Dragon, we would've had an unbeatable Pokémon. The ONLY Dragon move in RBY was Dragon Rage, and it was a set damage move (Always did 40 Damage.). Imagine: if we have trouble with Kingdra often nowadays, Gyarados would have been unbeatable. Only a full-Amesia Mewtwo could take him down. It's also the reason of why Gengar wasn't a pure Ghost in RBY too...

GameFreak doesn't want a fully evolved dragon that isn't x4 Weak to Ice. Ever think of that?

Kingdra is only x2 Weak to Dragon. Being part Water negates its weakness to Ice (meaning it makes Ice hit normally).

Hmm. How many Dragons are there now? 4?
dragon/flying
Dragon/water
dragon/flying
Dragon/flying

BORING!!!! Give use Dragon/fire or maybe Dragon/Steel. That would make Dragons fun.

You forgot Vibrava+Flygon. They're both Ground/Dragon types

Yo guys we wish for Gyrados to be a water dragon type but think about Charizard. He should be also Fire/Dragon. OF course it is protected by fire, water, grass, ice, fighting(?), steel, bug, etc. And has no x4 weaknesses and it is weak to rock and ground.
Or Yamma (a DRAGONfly)

Or anything else.....

I'm seriously thinking of doing a 386 version of the Dual-type weakness/resistance list. I know it would help me, and maybe others too.

The question is should I update the R/S Help thread or put in the FR/LG Help thread?

One way or the other it is going to get done, it's just a matter of where it best belongs. Post and lemme know.
Since it is 386 I'm leaning towards FR/LG but the thing is all of the R/S dual types are already here. So whadya think?

Got opinions?

Doesn't matter to me, I'd find more use for it in the FRLG Section, because I've had a few problems with the Dual type weaknesses in the games...

Yeah dual types can be a real pain. Ok, I'll start something up over in FR/LG in the next day or so and we'll see how it goes.

Believe you me, I was peeved when I faced a Mantine on PS2, which because of it's Flying type, cost me my precious lucky streak on R-2. Gyrados is definately more Dragon than Flying. Just look at it! How did they get Flying instead?

WTF? Pokemon is Nintendo only... That is, unless you have a pirated version.
