Hi :D. Ive been playing MTG since about 2000 but recently Ive been out of the loop. The last booster I bought was torment. Now I see that MTG has a new look for the cards and 8th edition has come out. Could ya'll give me the down low on all that is new in the world of magic? Thanks

ARTIFACTS, the last 2 sets out have had half the cards in them artifacts its the new theme for type II and they won't be going away anytime soon "fifth dawn" is on the way and it will also have half the cards in it being artifacts
there is equipment, which can be related to enchant creatures kinda picture a sword laying on the ground you have to pay a cost and one of your creatures in play can pick up the sword and use it but it takes some time for him to walk over to it so it is sorcery speed to equip anything.
imprint, there are artifacts that when they come into play, you can remove a card in your hand from the game and it is imprinted on that artifact, you can do different things with the different artifacts such as, add a mana to your mana pool of any of the imprinted card's colors, or you can imprint an instant with a cc of 2 or less on it and (2) T: you may play this spell without paying its mana cost.
modular 1, 2, 3, 4, etc... came from the chimera and the spikes they benifit each other like the chimera did and they come into play with +1/+1 counters = to their modular number example(Arcbound worker) (1) comes into play with a +1/+1 counter on it, (modular 1) when this creature is put into the graveyard you may put its +1/+1 counters on any artifact creature. they get a lot better than this.
Morph, you may pay (3) and play this face down as a 2/2 colorless creature then when you pay the morph cost you can turn it face up sometimes it triggers things when this happens. and only creatures have morph and opponents cannot respond to a morph cost being paid or your creature turning face up. but "playing" it face down it can still be countered and such.
They brought back cycling with a few new twists, check up on decree of justice, decree of silence, " of savagery, " of annihilation, " of pain. and there are alot more.

I forgot to mention Affinity
Affinty, things can have affinity to, artifacts, plains, islands, swamps, mountains, forests, etc...
things with affinity cost (1) less to play for each of the whatever it has affinity for you control. example, Broodstar (8)(B)(B) affinity for artifacts (so it costs (1) to play for each artifact you control) flying, * / * power and toughness are each = to the number of artifacts you control.

Tribal decks are also ok. Goblins and White Weenie are good.
Also, the artifacts will get a more silvery color in Fifth Dawn so don't get too attachted to the ones found in 8th/Mirrodin/Darksteel.

Thanks. I knew about morph cause I got a few of those in some torment packs. The other stuff I havent seen though as well as the new look of the cards. Guess I need to go buy some new cards one of these days. The last rare I got was Treva the renewer which I like alot in my rainbow deck.

Morph is a new mechanic in Onslaught. You probably made a mistake.
The people also forgot to mention indestructable. Indestructable things cannot be destroyed and lethal damage does not send it to the graveyard. However, they can still be sac'ed, -x/-x'ed, etc. Indestrucable appears on some artifacts in Darksteel.

By the way ice_shards I like your avatar, Akroma is a major part of my 'angel' deck..

from the way they were saying it I was hoping for a lot more indestructable creatures to choose from. but in type II it'll all depend on the decks. and the players using them.

cycling is not a new mechanic, it first appeared in Urza's Saga. It was brought back with some twists in Onslaught.

Supposedly the development team thought indestructible was too powerful, so they limited it to only a few rares. How stupid. It's quite overcosted and will barely make it into any Constructed decks.
I fear that indestructible will follow the same fait that amplify did. That mechanic had a lot of potential. If they gave the creature more bonuses aside from just a power up, it could have been much better. Oh well.
