Sometimes, putting random cards together can net you various results.

Pretty much.
Either go with putting cards that use the same type of effect, or cards that do what you want them to do.

Try to make a deck that suits your playstyle as well as your budget.

Basic questions are:
Defend or Attack?
Defend=Stall/Burn. Countdown, Exodia, or various burn decks.
Attack...
Quick finish (OTK) or chipping away at health each turn?
Big monsters or small monsters?
Power or control?
Mainstream or fun?
And then... art style.
The reason why I've got a Familiar Posessed deck running=)

You could try just making a deck of really beefy fusion monsters, like B. Skull Dragon, just because it's fun to get them out. Obviously that's not competitive, but it's fun to play with friends.

Make a 'broken deck'...by that, I mean to use as many cards that are on the limited/semi-limited list as possible. Start out with 2X Chaos Sorcerer and build up from there.

That sounds fun, but I was thinking of making a fish otk deck using Superancient Deepsea King Coelacanth. I usually run GB's, but I have decided that making fun decks makes this game more enjoyable, and actually, they do not suck as badly as most people think. Sure, they aren't X-Sabers, but I do win my matches half the time, and if I don't I can usually win at least 1 game. And that is agaisnt X-sabers, Gb's, Blackwings, and Quickdraw. The deck that I am talking about is my FlameSworn deck that I made where you basically use it to summon Red Dragon Archfiend and then Red Nova Dragon.
EDIT: Check in my blog link below for the deck, it is actually fun and good. Especially w/ Formula Synchron, I bought 3 today for $5/ea.

Story Time:
I have been in a 'player's slump' for the past month...
I have no shortage of decks to run or those I want to build, but I am running out of people to duel against....I also have a 'budget' of $200/month once rent, bills and food are all paid for...
Now, that may seem like a lot, but out of that money, I gotta buy stuff like clothes, toiletries/cosmetics, medicine, petrol and maintenance on my car and if I eat out more than once a week, I am left with $0 at the end of the month...
So buying things like Pot of Dualities and traveling over 300 kms every week just to attend a tournament is totally out of the question (unless I go without life's little luxuries..)
I also have a PC that's about 10 years old, runs XP on only 192MB RAM and has no video drivers (and I cannot get them without opening the case up and looking at my video card...which I will not do *blame my gender if y'all must*) LOL
Therefore, YVD and such is like totally out of the question.
I still have a few friends that I duel against, but their heart isn't really in it anymore and I think they only keep playing to pacify me so that I won't quit *bless their souls*. lol
Now, I went out with my mother yesterday (I take her shopping once a week) and I noticed there was a new Gametraders shop in the mall we frequent...I curiously went inside...
On the shelf, I saw a Gameboy Advance for $20 AUD and a cart: Yugioh Worldwide Edition - Stairway To The Destined Duel (1996) for $10.
I bought them (I cbf with e-bay). lol
Well, it sure as hell is an improvement on my GBC with Pokemon - Pikachu Edition that I play during times of great boredom...
Then I went over to the Playstation section (I have an old PS One that works and it is still sitting in my TV cabinet) and I saw 'Yugioh - Forbidden Memories' and I picked that up for $15...well, it sure beats re-doing Crash Bandicoot again..lol
Of course, I will get better Yugioh games when I am more 'financial'....my mum goes: 'you could have saved that money and put it towards a new PC'...of course I could have, but the PC I have my 'gamer's heart' set on has like 8GB DDR3 RAM, is liquid cooled and costs about $1,500...
So, my Yugi-boredom is pacified...for now.
