Here's hoping for a Baneslayer reprint. It's a great card that's costed well, is still easily dealt with, and if it's reprinted it's value will drop and make it easier for budget players to get.

Actually, it would be cheaper if she rotated out. I digress. I doubt if she is reprinted, her price tag will reduce any. What I want is a Serra Angel with an updated Revised cards (touched up and redone. That is the best looking Serra ever.)

That's completely true, but I meant for standard. I probably should've mentioned that =P. I've been saying that they're going to reprint her as a rare for a while now, and I still believe they will. It will guarantee soooooo many box sales.

While that seems true, you have to look at this from a sales perspective. Three scenarios, 1. Baneslayer is not reprinted at all, 2. Baneslayer is reprinted as a Mythic, and 3. Baneslayer is reprinted as a Rare. Now, which one is more likely to make you go to a pre-release/release event or buy boxes? What about your friends, and the magic community as a whole? Personally I would invest money into a couple boxes if Baneslayer was a Rare, and that's what Wizard's/Hasbro wants. Therefore, the idea of Baneslayer as a rare isn't to far fetched from that perspective.

Reassembling Skeleton, huh? Funny, I thought "Quenchable Fire" was as bad as card names could possibly get. I also don't know why they bothered butting "on Chandra" at the end of the burn spell's quote, either. He's hardly talking about Elspeth, is he? They're just leaving themselves wide open for innuendo.

Plummet and the Skeleton are both cool but unlikely to trouble constructed.

Well, the skeleton can be discarded then exhumed with it's effect, unlike regen it doesn't care how it got to the GY. You can sac it, or kill it by making it's toughness 0 and you can still pay to exhume it.

The burn spell is okay. Not awesome but it's 4 for 6...

I wanna see Wildfire again. :)

It is a solid card in limited, might see some play in Standard builds. It is an instant, so it has that over Flame Lash, not to mention it both burns a creature and a player. Outside of Standard, I would not run it. There are so many better burn spells.

With Bolt still around, I don't see any reason to run Outrage. 4 damage for 4 doesn't compare to 3 for 1. The damage to the player is usually irrelevant (and requires a creature target to even work, so it's not a reliable finisher either, as anybody who's ever had to stare down a pair of Calcite Snappers with only a fi****l of Searing Blazes can attest). Three extra mana to give Flame Slash instant-speed kills it, and there are plenty more excellent burn spells in Standard that cost less. It's obviously a high pick in Limited, heck I'd probably pay eight mana for four damage in Limited, but it's useless in Constructed.

I think people are really underestimating Plummet. Sure it's hard to get excited about a sideboard card but it's a counter for Baneslayer, at Instant speed might I add.

I don't think that is a M11 card but just a reprint. Planechase had 4 previews from Zendikar so maybe Archenemy will follow that rule too.

As for baneslayer, I hope we get something a little more decent than her uber brokenness of a creature she is. (tarmogoyf anyone? :P)

What he says about Open the Vault's "job being done" is interesting. It's gone because Esper's artifacts will be rotating out. What about Scars of Mirrodin? No artifact theme?

Open the Vaults being out means Scars of Mirrodin will be artifact themed. The card will be too game breaking in a set that comprised mostly of artifacts. If Darksteels were to return, Open the Vaults would be an amazing top deck.

That Vampire is pretty cool. I'm no expert on the archetype so is there ever any chance of the second ability coming into play or is he just a nice Lord for an already powerful Tribe?

Lots of the new vampires are wimps. 1/1 for 1 type stuff. This effect gives them a way to seize control of creatures they can't kill. It still doesn't help against Pro-Black though.

Meh, captivating is okay, but they should have just given us Nocturnus again as a rare or something, also his ability is pretty easy to trigger thanks to the Landfall in Bloodghast but I still don't think he makes up for a 90-10 possible loss of Nocturnus

I suppose he's better in that you don't have to worry about manipulating the top of your deck but yeah, Nocturnus would have been better (assuming he's not in there). I guess maybe Wizards are trying to reign in Vampires a little bit.

The biggest benefit Nocturnus has over the new guy is that he gives your vampires flying. MEh.

He's also fatter, not that it really matters in a format with Lightning Bolt and various other forms of targeted removal.

Nocturnos gives the boost to itself though and it's what I find most appealing about him a 4 4/5 flying drop. Don't get me wrong, I like Captivating too cause he's a "lord" type of card and the controlling ability is nice, but I would rather run them together than only one, it feels like wizards is picking for me instead of giving me the option xP, but meh I'm just kinda selfish like that xD, and besides this is still all assuming it won't be in there

Imo Scry isn't so complicated a mechanic that new player wouldn't understand as opposed to say perhaps, I dunno, Bushido; which is found only in a block and only in Samurais. Anyway I like it in there and specially in the owl, like adding another copy of Halimar depths to the deck =P.

Also it has been confirmed that Essence Scatter will NOT be in M11, could we be gettign a new card with the same effect yet again? Or is this perhaps the return of Remove Soul?

Scry is a bit left-field. Glad to see they're dipping into mechanics like this for the Core, though.

I doubt Remove Soul is back, they took it out because the name is a bit daft by today's standards. Chances are they're just lightening up on the situational counterspells. To be honest, I think that if they're okay with reevaluating Lightning Bolt for modern Magic, Counterspell itself could be a contender.

Probably, and that kinda sucks cause I don't mind the -1 PWR difference but the lack of trample means this guy will probably not see as much play since your opponent can just send a 1/1 soldier, beast or goblin or whatever token to block it and kill it without them losing any major board advantage or life and you having spent 3 mana or so

@marhawkman- The problem is that they're too similar, not the rarity.

I'm a little peeved that they took our Howling Mine and Nightmare since they are both cards I have used heavily at one point in time or another (Nightmare in my n00bish days, and howling mine in 90% of the combo decks I play). While I agree with the cards kept as of now, I can easily see giant spider getting the boot in the future due to another change in the creature power level.

It is probably because I am the type of guy that likes things such as "These 8 cards have been in every core set ever!", but I don't enjoy it when wizards has these articles like the Arcana where they sound proud of removing their game's legacy from print.

2x Furnace of Rath in my Rosheen Meanderer EDH deck now.
Playing Earthquake/Fault Line is like killing a flock of birds with one stone.

2x Syphon Soul makes Xiahou Dun into a psuedo Kokusho.
Using Cabal Coffers, Deserted Temple, Doubling Cube, then Xiahou Dun to abuse Temporal Extortion and finally finishing everyone off with Syphon Soul/Blood Tithe is wicked.

It's a nice EDH card. It's a little too laid back for Standard. Maybe Scars will have some combo home for it, but I can't see it troubling the high tiers. $2 card max. Obviously, a bomb in Limited. Can't say I like the promo art.

I see it more as a way to get rid of excess lands in your deck when you get that much mana, so instead of drawing lands, you draw spells.

That Lich looks like it could make its way into any equipment heavy deck or a deck that runs a dozen artifi lands such as affinity or Ironworks. No way is it going to find a home in a Black Aggro deck in Legacy unless someone figures out a way to keep it out long enough with the artifi intact.

I know he's probably not going to do anything, my enthusiasm comes mainly from having badly desired a Delraich in my newbie days, and Delraich, while reading impressively, was always a dollar rare.

But neither is he bad. His main benefit is that he can come down hard and still leave your mana open for tricks and protection. In every discussion I've seen, people are seeing how fast they can drop him, checking the cost in board position that makes, and dismissing him. Their judgments are correct, but their scenarios are all wrong. They shouldn't be trying to play him turn 2, they should be playing him when their early beats have become chump blockers and they need to break a stalemate or even a losing position. Then, he only costs six life, which your untapped lands can deal with.

But back to Sign in Blood; I think it's a card that any Black deck should run, specially Vampires where the -2 is pretty much meaningless thanks to Witch and Nighthawk, so I really hope they include it again in M11

I think there's only going to be one cycle of leylines, with some new and some old. Ten cards in a rare cycle is way too many (not counting dual lands), especially one as distinctive as this. I'm astounded by Voltaic Key. The artwork is the same as the one in Duel Decks: Phyrexia vs. the Coalition. Since Mark Lauer is the source, of course, it's an "official" preview, not a fake, but that would have had me suspicious.

I've noted elsewhere that this card makes me think that there's a good reason for the short time before Core Sets rotate out after all.

The block that starts in October of 2012 won't be at nearly as much risk of being another Kamigawa if a bunch of the staple cards that enable Scars block decks are in Magic: 2011 instead of in any of the three sets in Scars block.

Because Magic: 2011 rotates out with Zendikar block, not with Scars block.

This is a rather clever trick to avoid power inflation, I thought.

I love Wizards and Wizards love me (I think).

It just gives people who didn't get it the first time around to get it this time but in a second print form. The card is not that powerful other than for those who want to play Monoblack and don't have a lot of money to play any kind of other deck in Legacy.

Other than the Shade getting a second print run, the new leylines are amazing.

Then if Voltaic Key is in the set, then Scars gave M11 a pat on the back until M12 comes out next summer. Yet what I doubt most is how useful will the Key be when Scars is released. Because I know that Scars has a high chance of containing a lot of Colored artifacts for balance purposes.
